View Full Version : Kawhi Leonard buys a house in San Diego

Where Kawhi Leonard lands next basketball season is anyoneís guess, but it appears the Toronto Raptors star and impending free agent will be spending his offseasons in Rancho Santa Fe.

Leonard has paid $13.3 million for a home in the affluent San Diego County community. The purchase was made using a corporate entity that lists the two-time Defensive Player of the Year as manager, public records show.

Set on a lot of more than five acres, the Tuscan-style estate has been extensively renovated and updated for modern living.

Could be nothing. Stars buy houses all over the place. But should the Raptors be worried any way or let the season play out?

Less telling than Lebron because heís from the west coast. Still a shot he stays in Toronto imo. If he leaves hard to see him not going out west tho. Still in the raptors best interest to try to keep him I think.

I saw it written on twitter but something absurd like 40% of NBA players have a California home and another 25% have a Florida home.

yeah that screams dumb versus smart, but at some point, if you make enough money, state taxes, and cost of living really mean nothing haha. Plus FL sucks

Dude isn't KL from Riverside (barely north of San Diego)? He went to San Diego St for crying out loud. This means nothing...

If anything, if he was dead set on going to an LA team, why would he buy a house 2 hours south? Meh

I have never been there (been the LA multiple times, and Riverside multiple times), but personally, I LOVE the season changes, so give me Lake Tahoe, or Aspen, over San Diego. That being said, I hate heat, and could literally care less about being near the ocean, so that forms my opinion. My good friend from high school is a trauma surgeon in San Diego, so money is of no object to him, and he loves it there.

Many of us also take for granted that these NBA players are retired by age 35-40. RETIRED! With 30-50 years of life ahead of them. So a purchase like this might just be for his future, when he is done. KL is so quiet, I can't imagine we hear much from him after he leaves the NBA. Probably just wants to chill with his young family in a beautiful city where his extended family lives still I imagine..

my last paragraph just made me sad. By my age, KL will have been retired for 5-8 years, with $200,000,000 and counting in the bank. Ugh

To each their own but yeah it's crazy expensive. I like season changes as well but when it gets cold like it is now in Toronto, it's easy to see the appeal for the warm weather cities.

But I'm with you, he's likely thinking long term with this purchase and i should add that Kawhi also bought a home in Toronto, so there is that for those who are speculating.

It's -11 in the Twin Cities today. Next week will will reach -24 and that is without wind chill. I lived near the beach and in the heat for years, and had more than my fill...

That being said, San Diego doesn't get as hot as Houston, or many other areas. I just don't find the beach all that attractive. Much rather be on a lake in Montana with the mountains behind it.

It's among the nicer cities I've been to in the US. If I ever had to live outside the PNW, I'd have San Diego, Denver and Austin on my short list.

Rapots are the favorites, the playoff run will determine their fate. At this point it's I don't think he has his mind made up, just preferences.

Itís not heís coming off a rookie deal here. 14 million isnít that much to him if heís handled his money well. Add in the fact that he likely didnít buy it in cash and I donít see an issue with the expenditure to state heís gonna need the max because of it. Heís gonna get the max tho.

This is a clear message to everyone,. Kawhi is going to the lakers. I am sure Lakers management will try to contact the Raptors front Office.

It's up to the Raps to be forward thinkers and get something for kawhi or lose him for nothing. AD also brought a home out in LA. Everyone should see the writing on the wall.

I don't believe any Super Star/Star player will be signing with the Clippers, this upcoming free agency.

Not to mention that with the acceleration in global warming induced sea level rise from ice melt coupled with ocean thermal expansion, Florida is doomed.

To be fair, he also bought a house in Toronto a few months ago.

I'm not sure if it signifies anything, seeing that he's from there. I'm sure he's not the only guy who's purchased a home where they're from, while playing somewhere else.

I'm just happy that he's been giving full effort when the team has asked him too (I was initially scared that he would half *** his play on the court :laugh2: ).... I think it comes down to how Toronto plays come playoff time, but at this point they have to go all in at this point so it doesn't really have an impact on their goals for this year.

Though, I do wish they'd stop screwing around and go get Beal :laugh2:
