Elfrid Payton and the Pelicans have agreed to a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Payton is a New Orleans native and he joins a team with an obvious need at PG, since both Rajon Rondo and Ian Clark are unrestricted FAs. It's doubtful that Rondo will return now that Payton is in town, and this looks like a fortunate landing spot for him fantasy-wise -- the Magic jettisoned him for a second-round pick last season, and the Suns opted to renounce his rights in June. He'll be a late-round target if he heads into the season as the obvious starting PG.

Good spot, Rondo on the move somewhere else.

Rondo was perfect for that team as a leader and to control DMC.. this was a bad move by the Pelicans in not resigning Rondo..

The Pelicans are reportedly "hopeful" they can retain free agent Rajon Rondo.
Elfrid Payton just agreed to a one-year deal with New Orleans, which could complicate Rondo's interest in returning -- it's doubtful he'd accept a backup role. One day into free agency, we've yet to hear about other teams pursuing Rondo.

Hard to see Rondo as a backup.

Payton can play behind Rondo

Rondo is a perfect fit in NO. I can't see many teams interested in his services. He'll likely return.

Lol I agree, he needs to grow up and get serious about basketball. Anyone with hair like that has other distractions and isn't to be taken serious

I couldn't even tell you if he is good or not, I can't stop looking at his ridiculous hair when I watch him
