Cal827
04-06-2018, 08:07 PM
What the actual **** is Cleveland doing? :laugh2: I guess they want Toronto in the 2nd round instead.

I say that not with the intention to take away from the 76ers. They've been unbelievable over the past month or so. Even without Embiid, they haven't lost a step, a stark contrast to earlier in the season when they couldn't win without him. The team growth is unbelievable, and they look like the scariest East team going into the playoffs. They will be at the top VERY soon (if not this year- I do doubt this because of their youth first taste of the playoffs).

It's gonna be even more hilarious in a couple years when they add even more picks :laugh2:

With Boston losing Irving, and with pushing Cleveland into the other bracket with Toronto (two teams that would probably be most likely to knock them out when compared to the other teams), Philly could have a very good shot at getting the ECF... and possibly the finals depending on who comes out from the other side of the East.

I'll think I'm going to Eat another crow per MTM... Definitely did not see Philly getting over the top 5, and now they're a half away from making the top 3 in the East all Atlantic teams :laugh2:

aman_13

I'm still pulling for Lowry to get his act together.

With Lowry, it's just if he can hit his 3 pointers. He doesn't attack the net and he isn't a very good pick and roll pg. What he's good at is pushing the pace and getting the Raptors into their transition offense which is predicated on stops. If the Raps can get stops, they will have a chance.

He will have to hit his open shots for sure though.

I think everyone realizes that, but I don't think anyone expected this.

You'd be surprised how often people don't realize that. It's a schedule loss, and Philly's playing at a whole different energy level accordingly. I'm sure few expected a beatdown, but most smart fans would have expected a clear win, and at 22 points the Cavs are still actually in this game if they make an early run to start the 3rd. The Wiz were smacking around the Cavs yesterday as well... until they weren't. Granted, the Cavs very likely won't have the energy to pull something like that off again. Hence the road b2b.

warfelg
04-06-2018, 08:45 PM
So this is what I don't like about the way the game is officiated today:

That was clearly a foul by Ben, but on the attempted play Clarkson clearly wrapped up and held Belinelli as he tried to go through the screen not letting him to make his move, and that should be a call easily. But they have been very lax on calling the off ball stuff.

Vee-Rex
04-06-2018, 08:47 PM

The real heads up play is pulling up to shoot when that occurs. If it's under 5 seconds the refs have very little leg to stand on that it was not a legitimate shot. Granted, 'Bron would miss one most likely.

It was pretty much a catch-n-shoot situation, though. Kind of stupid to risk fouling a 3-point shot, especially considering it was gonna be a real tough one anyway.

Simmons on the other hand made a smart play fouling LeBron when he clearly wasn't in position to go for a shot.

should be a three point FT. It makes no sense in today's game. Back then, they dared you to shoot the three to win it. Now, it kinda kills the game that these guys are just fouling to burn the time. It's impossible to even get a shot to win now.

Everybody gets the idea. But you don't foul if the player is obviously about to shoot. You foul if they take a dribble, or if they're clearly not attempting a shot. It was stupid. But it worked out OK this time. It will be a learning experience for him/them.

This also makes no sense, as you would be trying to differentiate between what was an intentional foul and what was just a regular foul. Unless you're just trying to make all fouls within 24 seconds 3 FT's, which would be equally horrible as there would be no defense whatsoever played in fear of the 3 FT foul being called on some handcheck 50 feet from the hoop.

The far better play is to just let the mediocre 3pt shooter take the sideways fadeaway falling out of bounds 3 with a huge body in his face. You simply can't put that call in the refs hands. And in that case it was clearly a shooting foul.

Towns has the same issue Giannis has... He gets the stats but its hard for him to get other guys going and his defense is insanely bad... The wolves need towns to get his defensive game going and wiggins to get his offensive game going down the line for them to be a legit threat. KAT coasts a ton on defense and that is why he explodes on offense but it doesnt effect the outcome like it should because of that 1 way play.

No matter how this season ends for LeBron; if this is it for him and the Cavs, the return was successful: he brought a title to Cleveland. He had an amazing game last night and one of the few small flaws in his game showed up big down the stretch: missing free throws. He is human and still would be taken by many GMs to build a team around.

I was impressed with Ben Simmons' play even though his team blew a 30 point lead. The Cavs can't play games like that expecting to win 4 out of 7 because defense is crucial. Especially when you'll be more gassed playoff time when coming back from 20+.

I didn't expect the East carve out this nicely for Toronto. #1 seed. If Miami ends up as the #7 seed, there is no Boston in the 2nd round. Cleveland still has a chance to be the #3 seed and face Miami in the 2nd round. A Cleveland-Toronto series would actually work out much better this time because Cleveland is much more vulnerable and there is no Kyrie to bail out LeBron on clutch shots or anything of that nature.

But this assumes Toronto could put it together because I still do not think Casey is the coach to win a title in the 6. DeRozan is a beast and so is Lowry. But both have post-season demons they need to exorcise asap.

I read something to that effect as well. Rather interesting.

Also thin Hood not being able to play the second half actually helped you. With Hood in there, we weren't afraid to double or early slide to help with LeBron since the most consistent threat from 3 was Love. With Korer in there, we hesitated on that slide some. Then you did that ball screen 2 man with Bron and Korver and got Belli on Bron all second half and we were not able to collapse as easy. Bron and Ben so similar in that the more shooting out there the better.

Yeah, Hood is hit or miss. When he isn't able to knock down shots, he sort of disappears on the court. Not happy he was injured, but we might not come back if he was out there that game.

Cavs did great to pick on Belli but it wouldn't be as easy with Embiid out there commanding the paint. Embiid's talent will shine in the playoffs when it gets a little harder to score.

Ben will be a superstar and top player in this league, that's for sure. The things he's doing in his rookie season are incredible. Even right now he's more 'fluid' than LeBron. LeBron crashes everywhere and throws bullet passes, whereas Ben floats all over and has a knack for finding the right man even in the tightest of spaces. Ben's passes are a little harder to anticipate. It's an uncanny skill and IMO suggests that Ben might become a better passer than LeBron. If he gets a good jump shot and beef up a little bit so that he can absorb contact and finish better... we're talking about a guy with the potential to be an all-time top 10 player.

The more I watch Ben the more Magic like he is than LeBron like. I think the finishing isn't about being able to take contact or absorb it (he is 260+); it's that he's not a good FT shooter right now and doesn't want to be going to the line so he looks to pass or finesse as oppose to take contact.

Agreed on both counts, but the last bit, I was looking at this game specifically.

Wow, really? He doesn't look that big, especially next to LeBron (who I assumed was about 260'ish). Maybe it's more in his legs/thighs or something.

I love that LeBron loves Ben. Their relationship is awesome. He's clearly the guy LeBron passes the torch to, like with MJ to Kobe. I hope Ben takes care of his body like LeBron does.

Yeah just perfect for us Raptors fans 😧

I might have overestimated. He weighted in to start the season at ~245. But I would say that Ben carries it very different from Bron. Bron is shredded at his size, Ben's just built.

Seriously an insane time for us right now... Fultz now looks like he will be legit... his moves are nasty but getting him and still getting what will be a top 10 pick is utter madness.

Simmons
Embiid
Fultz
Saric
Covington
TLC
Korkmaz
and a top 10 pick
Ability to sign a max free agent.

This is nuts

How much is Embiid getting paid next season? Tbh, I don't think you guys even need Fultz. Ben+Bron+Embiid, you need shooters. Fultz is a SG who will need possessions. Ben+Bron+Embiid would have so much length and LeBron wouldn't even have to play defense. Ben+Bron though.. omfg, these two are going to cause so many problems.

Towns problem is he comes out dominating one game offensively and then the next he goes silent. He plays the game a bit too soft yet to take the Wolves anywhere. He will have to play with some real intensity if they want to win a playoff series...if they get there.

Giannis on the other hand plays with intensity every night but the Bucks don't really have a coach. The offense they run is all over the place. Their defense stinks. They don't box out or put any real effort into a rebound. And outside of Middleton there isn't a reliable shooter on the team.

The Bucks issues aren't all on their coach or coaches.
Their superstar player has a limitation that will prevent him from winning a chip. When i watch him play i see a physical freak of natural who's able to do so much on the court but yet for all his skill level i don't think he has a good natural feel for the game.
If he did the Bucks will be unbeatable.
IMO Giannis will always get insane numbers but i don't believe he knows how to make the team around him better in order to win.

That IS coaching. He doesn't know how to make the team around him better because the team doesn't really know what it is doing half the time. There is way too much ISO and they get wild passing the ball because it almost looks like a free for all half the time. Also Bledsoe, Middleton, Jabari, and Giannis settle for waaaay too many long range jumpers inside the 3 point line. I can handle that for Middleton at times because he is a crisp shooter with not much else for ability but the rest of those guys can create off the dribble and have the athleticism to do something with the ball. Just poor shot selection, poor defense, and lazy rebounding.

They need more shooters. If you are going to take advantage of freak you are going to iso him and he is going to force defenses to collapse. He is a mini Bron. It will get you a lot catch and shoot opportunities from 3. Surrounding him with slashers does not play to his strengths.

For sure definitely need more shooters. Middleton is the closest thing we have to consistency there. Seems like either everyone steps up or nobody does on any given night. Brogdon back should hopefully improve us some in that department but given only 3 games of play to the playoffs that probably isn't a solid bet for anything game changing.

I see it completely different.
Giannis is a willing passer but not an instinctive passer in the mold of LeBron or Simmons and guys like that.
The former, anybody can learn to do but the latter is something that you either have or you don't.

I think Giannis will go down as a Westbrook type. He could one day average a tripple double and still won't make anybody around him better.

Surround him with shooters and his first instinctive move will always be to attack the rim as opposed to finding his teammates in their "spot".

Great player, i just don't think he's a Bron type of player.

Maybe that's a direct result of Giannis' skillset.
He's looking to drive, attack the rim and score. Not drive and dish. Maybe the other guys know his ways and have adopted so they stand and watch in awe with the rest of us.
