So we do a “top 25 greatest players of all-time list” here on PSD, but I wanted to do a best, not greatest list.

What is the difference?

This is NOT a list that measures a players career or accolades, it is simply a list of, if all the players were in their peak/in their prime/at their best/etc. and all in a draft, who would you take first on your team.

Current List

1. Michael Jordan
2. LeBron James
T3. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
T3. Wilt Chamberlain
5. Shaquille O’Neal
6. Magic Johnson
7. Larry Bird
8. Hakeem Olajuwon
9. Tim Duncan
10. Kobe Bryant
11. Steph Curry
12. Moses Malone
13. Tracy McGrady
14. Bill Walton
15. Kevin Durant
16. Jerry West
17. Dwyane Wade
18. Oscar Robertson
19. Kevin Garnett
20. Dirk Nowitzki
21. Charles Barkley
22. Karl Malone
23. David Robinson

Bill. About time here he gets credit for being the leader/defensive presence of the team even though I disagree with his overall talent and ability from some people.

Torn between Harden - Barry - Dr. J

Torn between Harden - Barry - Dr. J

Harden over CP3? Is that because of this year with them being on the same team and seeing who the #1 on the team is?

GREATNESS ONE

Harden isn’t even over Kawhi.

I’m going with DR J.

Part of it. Plus just the raw production.

But do you think he's a better player?

Definitely. Chris Paul at his peak is not one of the 25 best players of all-time.

A prime CP3 on this Rockets team would be lethal..

In terms of peak play? I'm just curious why you don't think so? His advanced stats are borderline Top 10 good and he shoots the 3 well, passes and steals well and plays All-D 1st team caliber defense.

How is Dr. J still here?

At 32 he is still an amazing player.

It's easy. Because I wouldn't take him over any of the 23 that have already gone and I wouldn't take him over Dr. J/Rick Barry/James Harden so the best he's #26.

I would take him over Payton and Zeke.

Agreed. It's time.

I don't think Dr.J should be on here if we exclude his ABA. His NBA peak wasn't top 25.

I thought this pertained to their skill level not their NBA body of work. If that was the case Bill Russel should definitely shouldn't still be up. Julius joined the NBA when he was 26 and he was still in peak form.

Right. I stand by it, Dr.J's ability to play basketball during his NBA career was not top 25.

You are correct. If you think his peak was in the ABA doesn't matter. That is the Dr. J you get. It is all about the player and their skills at their absolute best.

Makes me wanna go see if I can find pre-nba info for Sabonis...

ABA's defense wasn't the same as the NBA that time so I think it absolutely matters. Dr.J's best seasons by far came in ABA but as soon as he got to the NBA, he wasn't putting up the same performances. How do we evaluate Dr.J based on that?

I do wonder where we should put sabonis, he schooled D-Rob in the Olympics. His Euro stats were 23 PPG, 13 RPG, 2.6 BPG. He shot 38% from 3 on 1.7 attempts. His efficiency was through the roof though obviously it was lesser competition.

That's true he never put up the same mind blowing stats, but he was still very good statistically, won an MVP and led the 76ers to 3 Finals before Moses.

He is also generally considered the 2nd best player of the era behind Kareem by most (especially old timers).
