I love this because I love the honesty. Theres just something about this I really like hahaha. I know he could have hurt his team but he agreed to the terms and hes gotta get paid! Good for Mo!

$500k really isn't much to him but I see why you would do it. I could see if he were a guy making a small amount but he has a pretty nice contract. I mean really, $500k is probably like $500 to us.

I don't think love is the right word. I respect him for his honesty. But this is everything that's wrong with sports now. It's purely a business (on both sides).

500k is still a lot. He's prob not going to get another big contract. If he's smart about his lifestyle he can make that money work for him.

Harkless is going to get an even bigger contract next time around. He's a 23-year-old, super-athletic combo-forward who has dramatically improved his outside shot, shoots nearly at league average, can play plus-defense on the perimeter and can cover three different positions. He's a building block for the Blazers.

If this is where he tops out (and I think it maybe) and the cap goes down he probably won't get a larger deal. Though he will get another solid deal.

So you're mad at Russell Westbrook for getting stats and now you're mad at Harkless for not getting stats lol. No pleasing you.

As a Blazers fan it's whatever, had this cost us a playoff spot I'd be livid but it was fine. He still contributed and we still won. Maybe this is a sign he should be taking less 3's lol.

It's funny to me that people have a "problem" with this when every single person in here commenting on this would have done the. exact. same. thing.

Yeah, that's a pretty good parallel.

Heck people would have got mad at him if he had taken a 3pt shot and the miss would have cost them their fantasy championship lol.

What do you people think incentives are? The Blazers gave him incentive to shoot the ball 35% from 3. He did exactly that.

Good. The Blazers said he needed to get 35% for the season to get paid more and that's exactly what he did.

He was a garbage 3 point shooter before then anyway so he did the Blazers a big favour by not shooting low percentage shots.

Love that Harkless did this. He's a smart dude.

And to the people that are acting like he was hurting his team, he finished the season 11 of 13 the last two games from the field. He was fine. Harkless made great strides to his 3 point shooting this year. He deserves the raise.

I didn't know you knew how I felt ! I didn't say everyone should love this. I said I love this. Because I love this. I appreciate his honesty and I would have done the same thing. Love this!

Dont put it in the contract if you dont want the player to go for it... Its a business deal with it.

If he needed 40% and he chucked 3s all day, then that would be even better.

Exactly. Players are given the incentives for the EXACT purpose of chasing them. Teams want and expect players to chase these incentives.

It's a team's responsibility to ensure the incentives they give to the players end up being beneficial to the team. If it didn't end up benefiting the team, then that's their fault.

+1.

Also we're focusing on a handful of games, ignoring that the incentive caused him to IMPROVE HIS SHOOTING for the entire season. That's much more of a benefit to the team then a few games where he wouldn't shoot 3s.
