Is this gonna be the same Porcello like we saw two yrs ago? He has one great yr and now its back to the same
old Crap. Only good thing is the season just started and there's plenty of Baseball left.

I'm not overly concerned. It is early in the season. The first 2 outings weren't great but similar to last season. Now 8 ERs is rough but his command was off and Tampa had a good day at the plate. To early to tell if "Old Porcello" is back but I am optimistic he will figure out the command issue. Probably not another Cy Young season but hopefully serviceable!

but the media said Tom was done and finished 3 years ago before the Bengals or Texans game after the 41-14 blowout loss to the Chiefs... Should i believe the media im still sitting here waiting for the end while his fingers keep somehow getting more rings, must be a product of the system he's in, because we all know "he's just a dump off QB with SOOO many great weapons around doing all the dirty hard work for him"... Maybe he'll be done after next year with another ring by way of system QB'ing... cuz.... matt Cassel

If Hanley could learn to shorten up and not swing at a 1-2 slider low and away like its a belt high fastball maybe he will would be batting closer to .300 instead of .241! Hanley being Hanley... I guess!

Lets see how Pomeranz does today! Need minimum 5 from him, hoping for 6+ again.

He worked all offseason and spring figuring out mechanics and building arm strength and we saw it when he topped out at 95 last start. Lets hope he can repeat it start after start!

Some early close calls leads to back to back walks to open things up.

However, that Longoria strikeout was very encouraging. Pomeranz looks like a different pitcher than what we got last year, looking like the Padres version if not better. *SSS but watching him he looks good and calm*

Okay...I won't speak again...though, I'm blaming Benintendi and Vazquez for the runs but the walks are the main culprit.

Here is the problem, when he does throw strikes everything is over the heart of the plate.
If ump is consistent squeezing both sides, going to be a high scoring game!

Couldn't agree more! I was big on the move and knew the potential to be a .270-.275 hitter but it was questionable to start! I thought we might have reached a tad with $5.5M but hoping he keeps it up! I could see a .290ish career high for him this season (knock on wood). In that case well worth it.

^^ It's more than just being a free swinger right now. He's swinging at just about everything thrown. Seems more like he's pressing to prove himself again.

That one resounding bit of contact represented the exception for a player whose already aggressive tendencies have been amplified even beyond his norms. (That includes a strikeout and a groundball double play batting lefthanded and a pair of infield pop-ups while batting righthanded.) Those bad results have been the most frequent ones that Sandoval has offered this year. Among the early carnage:

■ Though he leads the Red Sox with two homers, heís hitting .133/.206/.367.

■ Heís 0 for 9 with a walk batting righthanded. (Heís now 2 for 51 batting righthanded in his Red Sox career.) Heís made contact while batting righthanded, but has hit only one ball out of the infield.

■ Sandoval has swung at 62.8 percent of pitches heís seen this year, the highest rate in the majors. Heís swung at 49.4 percent of pitches heís seen outside of the strike zone, likewise the highest rate in the majors. Both numbers are higher than in any prior season of his career, contributing to a 26.5 percent strikeout rate that is nearly double any mark heís posted in a full big league season.

Obviously, itís early. Eight games are a blip. Moreover, itís worth noting that Sandoval is attempting something difficult as he returns to face the highest caliber of pitchers after sitting a year. Players who miss a season often take time to regain their form at the plate. (Yankees first baseman Greg Bird, who, like Sandoval, had a scorching spring after missing 2016 due to shoulder labrum surgery, is 1 for 16 with seven strikeouts.) It shouldnít be shocking that Sandovalís return to the field would require a re-acclimation process as he works to regain his timing.Speier

Speier

I agree. He is normally around 13%-14% K% but this year is he is going to shatter that! He definitely is pressing and you can see it. He has always been a free swinger but he also use to be a .280 hitter. Only once he batted over .300 and played over 120 games. If he could get into more hitters counts he would contribute more. Take until you get a strike, he starts 0-1 anyway.

I actually wanted to talk about Pablo and this free swinging mentality in my podcast this week!
