There was an interesting piece in The Ringer grading trade deadline acquisitions (https://theringer.com/nba-trade-deadline-deals-grades-raptors-pelicans-thunder-e6c1c1be1285) so far.
Let's do the same. Grade the acquisitions teams made at the deadline between A and F.
Obviously, this isn't based entirely on wins or getting to the playoffs, but on where a team is and wants to go. Also look at in in terms of where a team's weakness was/is, and how an acquisition has helped/hurt.

DeMarcus Cousins to the Pelicans: F
The Pelicans have been worse with Cousins on the floor, and way worse when he mans the paint without Anthony Davis. Obviously it takes time to integrate a new building block, but the Pelicans are swimming upstream against a small-ball current.

P.J. Tucker and Serge Ibaka to the Raptors: A-
I remember some people questioning whether Ibaka could be a significant defensive presence, but he's playing great as a small-ball center next to Patrick Patterson in the front court. Tucker's adding the expected hustle and defense, and the Raptors are weathering the storm without Kyle Lowry.

Jusuf Nurkic to the Trailblazers: B
Nurkic is trying and making the Blazers one of the best defensive teams in the league when he's on the court. I'm afraid he might worsen the Blazers' draft pick or get them into the playoffs to get vaporized by the Warriors.

D- for the Magic. I don't know about that. Their defense has improved, and Ross is younger, much cheaper, and a much better fit than Ibaka. Not sure why they would give that a D- unless they were expecting him to come in and average 20 PPG.

This is the same GM who brag to his fan base of the huge trade exception he got from the Howard trade and then let it expired  and didn't want Iggy in that multi team trade so he was shipped to another team for Afflalo and traded Harris for garbage lol.

Was this GM a reject from the Spurs organization cause he's moves and draft looks worse than the guy he replaced .

The trade is Ibaka for Ross and a pick. Most the **** you mentioned have nothing to do with that. The fact is they shouldn't have kept Ibaka and resigned him. Resigning Oladipo with Fournier isn't a good idea either. Ross is a better fit at half the price. The Magic gave up an 11th pick in a **** draft and got a late pick in a deep one. Trading for Ibaka wasn't the right move. Trading Ibaka was 100% right and the return isn't bad for someone who is about to be overpaid and too old for the core. I'm not a big fan of Ross but he's relatively cheap and he fits the team much better than Ibaka in terms of game, age and salary.

There's plenty to criticize Hennigan for, but you have no idea WTF you're talking about. The Magic had no use for Iggy who was an UFA. He would've left the Magic like he left the Nuggets with nothing. Who cares about a TPE? Hennigan still won that trade, but all that is irrelevant because we're only evaluating the Ibaka trade for Ross and a 1st.

Way to early to judge the Pels move. That team was horribly constructed before and after the deal. Talent wise it was a steal. Now in the summer is when the hard work begins. They need to get shooting to put around those two and a legit PG.

How is Holiday not a legit point guard? He shoots well from three, can run an offense, and defends well. It's all about health for him.
