Portland vs Warriors is going to be crazy fun. People keep talking about AD+Westbrook+Kawhi and rightfully so but Lillard is having a ridiculous first three games. He's going to get lots of MVP votes. Three-way race between Kawhi+Westbrook+Lillard.

Cavs game moved ahead an hour so that we can all watch the World Series. The temperature here in Cleveland is in the 70's, with a low of 62. Perfect day for an Indians win.

Headline:

WINdians send the Cubs into hibernation and take the World Series, ending the city's 4-month championship drought!

Interesting how LeBron's Halloween party has a 3-1 lead as the spookiest lead of all (let's hope it doesn't backfire if the Cubs come back from being down 3-1).

LeBron still trolling the Warriors. The cookies looked delicious, though.

I wonder if he'd be trolling if Green wasn't yelling "Cavs suck!" and Klay wasn't trolling during the Finals. Don't forget Curry's locker room champagne swipe and Green's Game 4 gooch swipe.

All in good fun.

Anyone care to share their thoughts on the following lines:

@Heat (4PTS) vs Kings
@SAS (11PTS) vs Jazz
@POR vs GSW (5PTS)

I have a feeling one of these lines is going to be wrong, my ego wants to say the Jazz will lose a close fought affair but they haven't impressed to start the year with so many injuries going on. Kawhi has to decline eventually and this is a stout defensive team that can prevent guys like TP from going off. On the flip side, its a traditional team and SAS loves when it can play traditional.

Curious to see if Gobert defends Pau or LMA, anyone know how that go last year?

Kings vs Miami is really interesting and seems to be the closest call.

The one bet I think is going to pay off for me (the only bet I've made) is Bucks at Pelicans, they got the Pels as a mere 3.5 favorite to win. Bucks have won me a decent sum thus far in their season, can they continue to suck as badly as they have?

Cmon guys gimme an upset to pick today, big money baby, looking to put a whole 10$ on something but it needs to be soon. My friend is betting on Portland, not to just barely lose but to win.

Go with Portland to win. Take a chance lol

^ True, sometimes the line is so large that the value is undeniable.

Just remembered, Rubio aint playing today. Do the Wolves now have the talent and backup PG to actually survive his loss? They are favored by 3.5 against the Grizz. If this were last year that's easy money but in the young season everything is discombobulated. I'm taking the Grizz another high value bet.

Vee-Rex

Cavs getting out-hustled by the Rockets. Harden is dominating the game, as expected. We need to figure out a way to force some turnovers.

I mean, Rox were winning and when Harden goes out we make a huge run.

I'm predicting Lue will have us come out playing more aggressive. Hedging those PnRs harder and trapping sometimes. We've gotta try to keep the ball out of Harden's hands.

The Wolves lost their season opener by 4 to Memphis, so there could be a little added motivation and fire to win tonight at home.

Idk how the loss of Rubio will affect tbh, but having just lost ~1 week ago could be a factor.

It's a testament to how good Harden has been that the Rockets are in this game at all. He's put up 22/8/4/1 with no turnovers. The Rockets are +11 with him on the floor and -15 for like the 5-6 minutes he was on the bench.

If a second scorer or playmaker doesn't step up in the second half, the Rockets are toast. Harden is amazing, but this level of play isn't sustainable.

Something is happening in the Minny-Memphis game, the line just doubled from this mornings 3.5.

Rubio better not be suiting up and Gasol/Conley better be healthy. Still took the bet because of the value but Im curious whats changed.

They're 7pt favorites on my site, don't know if they would win by that much and if I just took the money line I wouldn't make enough money on the gamble to make it worth the bet. But betting 10 to win 27, Ill take 3 of those kind of bets any day. Long term gain my man

IIRC, before even going to College he had a clutch game in leading the US back against the Worlds. I forget the details but his rookie year he had one of the biggest rises in his production come 4th quarter (forget if it was in close games or not) but he was neck and neck with CP3 those days.

Good game, Cavs. That squad is the defending champs for a reason. Clutch hitting shots down the stretch and played great defense late in the fourth. But I'm glad the Rockets made a game of it. If they had played tonight the way they did against LA or that second game against Dallas, they would have gotten blown out.

Nice. I love WSOP myself.

Back before Cleveland had a casino I would participate in a lot of Nautica Charity poker events. I've got years of experience but it wasn't until I cracked open some books that I upped my game.

If I ever get like 10,000 extra dollars I'm gonna make a serious run at trying to build it up at Holdem tables.

Lillard pushing himself into that upper echelon of point guards (Curry/CP3/Westy). Got a shot at edging out CP3 to take the 3rd best pg spot. He's playing at an MVP level right now.

I'd strongly recommend Annie Duke's "Decide to Play Great Poker". It was the first one I read, got me playing the right way and understanding the kind of approach and philosophy I should have every time I play, as well as how important position is on the table. Flexibility is key - play loose when table is tight, play tight when table is loose.

The first part of it is great for getting you in the right mindset and understanding how to improve your play. The 2nd half is great for teaching odds and quick thinking of it. Annie describes it in such a great way that makes it easy to understand too.

I'd also recommend "The Best Hand I Ever Played" - Steve Rosenbloom. Sums up a huge number of lessons from some of Poker's greatest players.

I'm actually not familiar with this book, but I will say that Annie Duke has a horrible poker reputation among the best players in the world. That said, if it's things like position and such that you're looking to improve your knowledge on, I'm sure it's perfectly fine.

For my two cents, I would recommend Jonathon Little. As a whole there is no more ambitious teacher in the sport and he keeps it current (the NL game has changed massively since 2005... I assume Annie's book came out around this time as it was the last time she was relevant). He's got a collection, you can really get whatever you're looking for based on your experience level. He's the real deal, very strong teacher imo. This main-even is insane btw. If you're not watching it, make sure you catch a re-run on ESPN.

And yeah, Curry woke up in a big to start this quarter. He does not like being shown up by another PG and that's exactly what Lillard was doing.

Thanks, I will also look into Jonathan Little's material.

I can't watch WSOP atm, only one tv with the Dubs game on, and then my PC with PSD up.

One thing that's apparent with Portland is they're lacking some strong outside shooters. They could use a stretch 4 pretty badly.

One more strong scoring option would be great too. I'd love to see them acquire Anthony Davis somehow. They would be DANGEROUS.

Steph puts up 23 in the quarter and outscores the Blazers in the quarter, and that's ball game.

23 points in the 3rd for the reigning, defending, two-time undisputed MVP.

We've been over this: AD belongs on the Warriors.

Wonder if KD will get any play in the 4th quarter? He's only at 15 points. He's got the longest 20+ points a game streak since Jordan more than a quarter-century ago. Honestly though this is going to happen a lot this year, so he might as well get over that streak now.

Well a minute into the 4th quarter he answered that question pretty quick.

wait did you need them to win or lose?
I bet against the spread so the minimum i wanted was to not lose by 3. Wish i had the courage to take them outright like my buddy but he held back on me

So Kawhi shows no signs of slowing down tonight
And still got beat.
No sign of the dubs heating up from3 but you Already know It's a statistical certainty.

It's like the curse of Harrison Barnes took a bite out of Klay. I could shoot better from beyond the arc than he has so far.

Obviously he's too amazing of a shooter for this to go on for a long time, but it's just shocking to see him miss so much even in just 4 games. I think he's like 3/27 on the year or something.

Yeah he's been atrocious from 3, but there's really no player I worry about less when it comes to regaining his stroke. It's too pure and the looks he's getting are too good. Him and KD actually managed 0-10 from 3 tonight. Crazy that's in a 30 point win on the road against a playoff team.

I just don't know how much you expect Kawhi to regress, he is who he is.

You may just be proven wrong with him , just as you were with TD for so many years :)

Impossible to keep up his numbers dude. But, we are at the point of the season where stats are all out of whack, in all ways possible.

Which numbers in particular? His scoring may drop maybe 1-3 points, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they dont.

I know you aren't a believer in him, but just curious where you see the drop coming and how much you anticipate.

1 of his biggest additions is now he's getting to the FT line much more. He's so much better at drawing fouls..

Its moreso your entire team than just Duncan but I dont mean it as he wont have a career year here if thats what you mean. My critique isn't really criticism upon him, just that his current level is unsustainable. Which is pretty empty considering (as Hawkeye alluded to) everyones stats have yet to normalize.

My only real critique is that I dont think the guys you have around him can compensate for his decline in any meaningful way that keeps you at the top 2. I still think the Clips are better but this start isn't ideal for my team. Still, the way I see it, Kawhi and the bench is basically carrying you and the guys who have underperformed for you are prolly going to suffer down years than revert to form. We'll see how DG helps and how LMA is in Y2 but dont think I didn't notice your bench sucking last game.

well his PER is near 40, and his WS/48 are above .400, his TS% is like Tyson Chandler in his peak year, etc.

His current line would be the greatest year in basketball history....he will regress. Sample size time of year, when some guys come out guns blasting, and some suck. Obviously he "settles" into an all NBA player as expected

I guess I wasn't looking at those stats, but rather what hes actually producing on the court. He's the real deal, and he will have MVP type numbers by seasons end

Gotcha..

I disagree re: the Clips but I guess we'll see. I mean if you look at the 2014 team, it was lots of guys playing well at different times. From Mills, to Joseph, to Green, etc... I believe the supporting cast is fine, and even an upgrade from last year. Lee/Dedmon w ould have faired so much better against Adams/Kanter/Ibaka. We were crushed on the boards with Diaw/West. I think Dedmon is really going to be a difference maker as well. He's DeAndre Light + hits the mid range shot & FT's.

This year there's been lots of changes. But with Kawhi's improvement, and LMA being in his 2nd year, they'll be able to shoulder more of the load. I think Green will help a ton, especially defensively and his ability to spread the floor. He had lasik surgery and was shooting the ball better in the summer, as he had a bit of a down year last season.

And ya, I know the bench sucked.. It's gonna happen throughout the course of the season lol But on most nights, they'll have the advantage.
