Watching Heat Magic right now. Seeing Waiters on the heat is weird. The announcers have said he has played well in the preseason. He's been penetrating and settting up his teammates. Saw him have a a nice penetrate and dish and then two back to back drives and buckets. He looks like he has learned a lot about the game in his last two years playing on contenders. He looks more mature and poised out there. He may turn out to be a solid player. I hope so. I got love for him.

At the Thunder-Sixers game.

There's such an amazing buzz here. Embiid is playing, Saric is finally here. Yea Simmons is out, but the anticipation of a nationally televised game has taken over the place.

Question for Sixers fans, is the future plan:

???
???
Simmons
Okafor
Embiid

Or

???
???
Saric
Simmons
Embiid

If it isn't the first option you guys should trade Okafor for a high lottery pick and Draft a PG with your pick and a SG with the pick you get in the trade or vice versa.

Uhhhh we got the Lakers top 3 protected pick, Sac Swap, 2019 sac pick, and more cap room than anyone else. Okafor should stay and be our 6th starter with Saric.

Simmons - Saric

Harden and Russell putting on the show we were hoping for in the early going. Russell's definitely going to thrive without Kobe and put himself in that top-10 guard convo sooner than later.

Not disagreeing with you at all, but to be fair they are missing their 2nd and 3rd best players.

Yeah the starting backcourt is out plus the likely starting SF in Pondexter, who is right there for "4th best player" on the team with Asik and Hill. There's plenty of talent in NO, just not a lot of health and consistency. Hopefully the younger guards and veteran additions (Hill and Stephenson) can help provide consistency.

Thunder/Sixers game was a nice change of pace from the P&R bore that the league has become for most teams. Westbrook's probably the most versatile guard in the game, equally capable in the post and in ISOs as he is in the P&R and the Sixers are a true post team now. Both teams have to be pretty happy about all their young players, even if the Westbrook/Dipo backcourt looks a bit iffy so far. But the Thunder have 2 interesting young guards behind their starters, and Sabonis flashed potential. The Sixers had a nice team effort, both their star bigs looked good off injury and Embiid's jumper may be good enough that a twin towers look isn't as unthinkable as it perhaps once was.

Lots of quality young bigs in the league. The NBA's heyday for guards could be coming to a close.

Was about to mention that, its been the closest to an old school game I've seen in awhile, dont know how long that will last nor how viable it is but it was a nice change of pace.

Yeah I'm not sold on Russell either. He didn't belong on the court when I saw him last year and didn't really look like he got that much better. Admittedly I only watched national games, of which there were too many what with Kobe's little tour under way, but still. I'm not even convinced he can play PG in the league.

Ingram on the other hand looks like a natural scorer early. He flashed that at Duke but his handles and other team requirements limited him (plus he wasn't the best scorer on Duke's team) but he's got the length, touch, and footwork to be as good as anyone in the league as a scorer.

That was Randle being an idiot. If the player lands on you after taking an up-and-down 3 to close the half, you were too close. Harden just oversold it in his standard fashion, but it was a clear foul that can't really be no-called.

Harden ties 'Bron for most assists out of the first 15 games btw (in the 1st half).

This game is just the perfect storm for these two teams to run it up on each other, but similar to the 2nd Q, Houston needs to prove that a team like LA can't stick with them to close out the game, or else they're in for a lot of long games this year (I don't think LA will).

Which of those lines do you consider better than 50/16/5/ + 7steals and 4 blocks? The 71/14 was just pure stat-padding in order to go for the scoring title, so it's sort of a moot game to me. Plus overall it wasn't as impressive anyway. Truly, AD's game may take the cake, but I'll have to sort through some. Maybe the quad-double he had against the Terry Mills and Greg Anderson v Detroit I guess, but still not quite there. The 5 assists aren't off-set by the 6 boards and 20 points (blocks/steals combo cancel, and steals are more impressive than blocks as is).

I mean, AD is doing it against a Denver team that has no body on it lets be honest, so to bring up Davids 71 and downplay it makes no sense really. Then add in that the other games were against the top 10 centers of all time, what David did was much more amazing. The Clippers ran everything they could at David and Drob could not be stopped at all. What AD did to an awful team is what David did to the best centers in history. You play who you play dude. The reason I discount the Clippers is because he/the team were purposefully stat-padding. If you take 50+ offensive possessions to shoot the basketball, you're going to score an ungodly amount of points. The other most impressive line from him to me off that list was also against crap competition, so you really gotta take those two out if you want to try to use that as a baseline for your argument here.

As is, I'm just talking about the statline in a vacuum. It's obviously FAR superior statistically than the Shaq and Ewing game, and clearly superior to the Zo/Shaq games. The two that are closer (but still fall short) are against the weak comp. Just saying, that line is All-Time great by AD tonight. And what are we even saying...(?) David played MASSIVE amounts of games against terrible competition over his lengthy career, and if none of them were as statistically imposing as tonight by AD, that's saying something.

Another case of him stat-padding by the way. Spurs were up >20 with 5 minutes left and they purposefully left him in the whole quarter to try to reach 50 (had 19 that quarter in nearly all garbage time). DRob had a better FG%, but shot 11-15 from the stripe (73%), AD shot 16-17 from the stripe (95%). So the efficiency is actually very close. Throw in the couple extra dimes, the couple extra boards, the fact that D Rob had 0 steals (AD 7 steals), and it's still in AD's favor IMO. Looking right now and that Charlotte D sucked dick by the way. Ranked 19th in the league. Oh wow this site is legit, nice link.

So there you have it. I just did it for AD and it was a 47.4 last night. So for a night with zero stat-padding, that seems to be pretty insane from the list of names I just cycled through (multiple high usage years of MJ/Barkley/DRob/Curry/Shaq/Bron) and only seeing a couple higher than that in all the games I checked (did it quick but probably saw 800 games in peak seasons from those guys. MJ had one at 51.2, that was the highest I saw.

Edit: Jordan's game score in a 2 point win against the Bad Boy Pistons in Detroit in '88 was 54.3! He put up 59/4/6 +2st/2blk on an 84% TS and 1 turnover (173 O rating... so decent).

Highest playoff game-score I can find is MJ again. 49.8 against Miami in the closeout of the first series in '92. Super-efficient 55/5/5 +2 stls/4blks.

Thats all fine and good, but I think going against Alonzo vs going against pure trash should way heavier than stat padding. If one guy can stat pad against an all time great at 71% and another guy kills himself to get 50% fg against trash, I think that tells you all you need to know about who was more dominant.

Chronz
10-27-2016, 01:40 AM
Prolly best to at least adjust for minutes played for a reference point. Like technically MJ has the highest GS since 86 or whatever the cut off is but he played OT in that monster game. Kobe comes in 2nd with his 81PT game but his game against Dallas might grade higher if we adjust for minutes, personally I always considered his Dallas game to be his best work of art. Malone has the absolute highest, only played 33 minutes in his 60 score on by far the least amount of shots of anyone in his tier so if we used a WS type of stat he would definitely grade the highest even without minute adjustments.

Jokic and Nurkic are "pure trash" come on dude. I don't think you'll be making that same comment at the end of the year. Jokic is one of the better young bigs in the NBA. And let's not pretend that he was going against peak Zo. He was going against a ROOKIE in HIS Peak. I just created one of the more incredible stat-lines I could imagine (while leaving the scoring simply "elite"), and it falls short of all of these we're discussing... so I take it with more than a few grains of salt...

Fake stat-line:

30 points on 8/15 + 10/12 from the line (meaning the player hit 4 threes)
15 rebounds (3 Offensive)
10 assists (3 TO's)
10 blocks
10 steals

So a legit quintuple-double with a >3:1 Assist:TO ratio with 15 boards and 30 points on elite efficiency, and the game-score is... 47.1. That's not doing it for me. For one, steals seem to be undervalued for sure.

And I just made it....

35 points on the same 8/15 + 10/12 from the line (so all of his 8 field goals he hit are now 3's)
15 rebounds (3 offensive)
15 assists (5 TO's)
15 blocks
15 steals

.... and still can't beat Kobe's 63.5 game score with that line lol. That's 63.1.

I'm seriously LMFAO at this right now. So fun to dive in to this stuff and find out what is really going on. Good ish Tre, that is absolutely hilarious. Just reading "Legit quintuple double", the most impossible stat line ever is hilarious, and then seeing the lack of value that stat line holds is making me cry from laughter. Well maybe AD's stat line was the best you have ever seen. Can we find a one game PER or WS48 for these games?

HOT TAKE:

Lakers played and won over a lotto team. Lack of defense was embarrassing for the NBA.

Sixers took a top 5 seed in the west to the wire, in the best game Philly has seen in 5+ years.

Did you know that Staskuas even had the skill set he showed last night....I never thought he could play like that (even when he came out of college)

Fair enough, but I didn't realize he could do anything more than "hit" a jump shot

He's across it.

Im pretty sure, like 100% sure he doesn't care how you feel about it. It was ****

I think that is much more impressive. If your not impressed with 71, why would I be impressed with 50 against similar comp?

I'm dying. Denver has no one?
For good measure when you have Nurkic/Faried/Wilson Chandler/Barton/Jamal Murray as a reserve lineup.

Bucks came out flat in opener. Only guys that showed up to play was Giannis, rookie Brogdon and Moose. Parker only took 9 shots. Telly and Delly were cold. Beasley was a chucker like usually. Maker didn't get to play. We had a nice little comeback in the 4th but still came up short. Brogdon looks like Andre Miller.

Let me give you some context for "no one."

Look at my sig

See Olajuwon?
See Shaq?
See Ewing?
See Mourning?

2 of the top 4 and 4 of the top 10 defensive centers/centers of all time.

Compared to those centers, yes, yes, yes Denver has no one!!!! Compared to those guys Turkic, Faried etc are nobody. Shaq, Dream, Ewing, Zo...stop

lol he's still got a looooong way to go to prove himself.

Nik has all the tools to be a decent role-player but he utterly lacks confidence. Can't hit an open shot to save his life, I did like that he took the ball strong in the paint a few times last night. But he was awful last season (I wanted him cut for Brandon Paul in all honesty) AND preseason, so he has to show me that he's worth a roster spot this year.

Could just as easily see the Rockets finish ahead of OKC - who are not good - but it's true that the D in that game was an embarrassment and that Philly was legitimately fun to watch (albeit part of that just being able to see a performance - any performance - from Embiid and how through the roof the Sixers fans were). The MVP chants with him at the line were pretty classic.

His falls are always so awkward though.

Our core is not even above 22 so you might be the only one comparing them vs alltime greats. If you take away 2 players who don't play in Miller and Nelson Denver is the youngest team in the league.

OKCs defense is really good. And if Illy and Dipo contribute a little more, and they trade for a SF...dare I say this team might be dangerous?

Lakers beat a team that most would say is going to be better than them still. They played very well offensively. Defense was garbage on both ends. Going to be tough to gauge just how good OKC will be until they go up against the best of the West. Beating the Sixers hasn't been much of an accomplishment really the past several years. A lot for the Sixers really depends on their health which really has worked against them for many years. Tons of potential but their top picks have been very frail.

As a Kings fan... I have to actively root against the 76ers this year because I'm pretty sure they still have the ability to swap draft picks with us due to that horrible trade.

Eh I don't know that the D will be top-10 in the league. You lose Durant and Ibaka and replace those minutes with Ilyasova/Dipo/Singler and that's not really a recipe for defensive success to me. They weren't top-10 last year as it was (granted they stepped it up big-time in the playoffs). Any D with that many minutes from Singler and Kanter and frankly Westbrook (who for all of the **** Harden takes, is more than we'd like to admit just as big a turnstile on that end) is just not going to be very good. I think OKC's fighting to make the playoffs this year, similar to Houston (there's a mash of 7-8 teams all at a similar level who are fighting for 5 spots imo).

We only gave up 43 in the 2nd half, mostly because Marcelo Huertas didn't play and Lou only played 5 minutes.

After one game the Warriors have the 18th ranked offense and 26th ranked defense (that's out of 26). Nice.

I took solace in the fact that in the Mavs game the quickly declining Bogut was just torched by Myles Turner all night and eventually had to be benched. I root for Bogut in general, but it's always nice to keep the hate in check a bit (for those saying that the Warriors lost all their depth and that losing Bogut will come back to haunt them, etc. Mind you they were going to lose him and/or Barnes regardless after the money Barnes got, and Bogut was a 16 mpg playoff guy who missed and/or was benched the bulk of both of their Finals appearances. They miss him, but it was a pretty easy decision to lose him).

Best Barnes game of the past 11 for him though (counting Finals/preaseason, where he was averaging 9 PPG on 20% from the field per-36). Nearly reached 20 on efficiency in their OT loss.

I agree 100% but I'm watching and kept wondering who it was. Hopefully he found his confidence. I knew he could hit a 3 when he is confident but I didn't know he could actually move around and over people

Yes the Lakers defense was trash, but they wanted that win tonight. D'Lo is something else now with his 3PT eye, and Clarkson went off. Mozgov looked nice, and it was like the perfect opening night win. Harden also was ahowing Nash/Rondo skills out there, 17 assists, wow. Houston gonna be interesting with that firepower.

lmfao it is such an underrated trade man... Most of us in our forum thought it was gold at the time... Hinkie is a god.
