Good players to play well, but even more so there Mr. Simple Simpleton. Licking their chops at our pitching staff, who on paper should be good / great, but they've just had no leadership or direction all season and for the most part, given the eye test, look defeated. Shocking.

David Price has thrown a great game. 8 innings of shutout baseball. Only runner to get into scoring position was once in the 5th inning. Great bounce back start by him.

Red Sox lose, Hanley throws a routine grounder over the catchers head with the bases loaded 1 out.

Fire Farrell. Fire the Pitching Coach. Something needs to happen now! And yes i know Hanley made a bonehead play. But the bullpen everynight can't keep putting us in these situations.

I have a feeling if it were the red sox in that position they'd hit in to the double play and lose. The red sox has got to be the weakest team mentally. They have no clutch hitting and can't make the plays that count

Honest question.

Do some of you only post when we lose? Whenever we win, or have a solid game these threads are empty. But have mercy once we lose, or a trade happens many of you are at the Red Sox throats.

What is the point of being a fan if that's what you're going to do? Now I understand if you aren't able to post during the game, but man discussion is practically none at this point in this forum because of the "fans" that only know how to bash their "favorite" team.

It might honestly be an age issue, but I can sincerely say it might be time for some of you to drop the Sox as your "team".

I feel like we need a spark. Whether that's a firing, a trade, or a call-up of Benintendi (my preference), something needs to happen. It feels like the energy of the team is slowly declining. Kind of just going through the motions. I don't like that.

So, Farrell needs to get ejected, team is lifeless for 98% of the game, laser show and there's your W. That there is the winning formula for these Dog Days! I'll take it :)

It's not Farrell's fault, do your job when your sent to the mound. He had a 1-2 count in his favour and curved one in Cano's wheel house.

I'm not even mad at the loss or the rest of them going forward anymore, I've just come to accept that the pitching staff is what it is until Willis is fired. Every time you need a big pitch or performance from these guys on the whole, they disappoint and they delivered that disappointment once again last night.

The eye test tells me they're just flat out defeated with no direction or answers. Getting advice from Pedey, heck, Price was talking to the hitting coach on the bench multiple times last night. Where are you Willis? Or is this just a free ride...

Undoubtedly, there is bad luck involved in both Price’s poor record and the team’s recent inability to win with him on the mound. Price has a respectable 3.62 ERA in his last dozen starts, yet the Red Sox’ offense has been as inconsistent as the starting pitcher during that time, resulting in a 2-6 record for Price and a 3-9 record for the team in those contests.

Price has yielded a .343 batting average on balls in play, not just a career-high but an enormous jump from his career average of .292. The mark suggests there have been a number of balls finding holes, as with Tuesday’s three eighth-inning singles – though luck doesn’t completely explain Price’s struggles given that opponents are hitting him harder than they did a year ago (in 2015, balls in play against Price had an average exit velocity of 87.7 miles per hour; this year, that number has climbed to 89.0 m.p.h.), and he’s now allowed as many homers (17) in 23 starts this year as he did in 32 outings a year ago.Speier

You got to wonder if this Sox offense is running out of gas.

I don't think that's it. At the simplest level, they have scored more than one run per game at home than on the road (5.95 vs 4.89). It's not unusual for a club to score more often at home thanks to the comfort level. When you factor in the number of young players (who quite often have pronounced home/road splits) then it makes even more sense. Hitting, and the lack of it, always seems to be contagious; the longer the time on the road the more pronounced the effects could be. Perhaps as an example, they've been held to 4 runs or less in 5/7 games on this road trip so far but the last 3 in a row and 4 of the last 5.

A definite concern, however, is that few of their road games to this point in the season have come at run suppressing ballparks. For the sake of convenience, I'll call a run suppressing park one in the bottom third of the league park factors for runs scored (http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor/_/order/false). So far only 11/47 road games have fallen into this category. Half of what lies ahead (17/34) falls into that grouping though. If we expanded it to the bottom 50% then those numbers would change to 21/47 and 23/34. By stark contrast, the schedule to date has included 76/106 games played in a top-10 run producing park but the remaining calendar has only 26/56 such games.

It's a very long, uphill climb regardless of the extended periods on the road to be sure.

Before AB arrived they announced the plan: AB starts against RHP and Brentz against LHP. It's not about getting Brentz PA and it makes sense. I also get not wanting to PH with AB later in the game; he'd already struck out to end a game and Holt has had success as a UTL/PH.

I have plenty of issues with JF this year but this is silly.
