Poor guy is too loyal. He should have gone elsewhere. But none of the serious contenders are a good fit for him. He would have had to go to a second tier team that he would make better but really wouldn't be a contender (Boston, OKC) so I can see why he chose to just stay. He would have been great for Portland though....damn he would be awesome taking some of those Aminu/Leonard shots but he's a Mav for life it seems.

Agree.... A well deserved/earned thank you contract. In glad he got his money. Probably should've gotten another $10 - 20 million but oh well.

Dirk gets a statue and a farewell tour.

2nd best PF of all time.

That is highly questionable.

Anyway, good for Dirk.

Yeah, I agree, too. But this does kind of put the nail in the coffin for them, right? They might make the playoffs, but with that (well deserved) $20 million, Cuban is just waiting out Dirk's days.

This is ****ing disrespectful... ONLY 2 YEARS AT 20 MILLION PER? ONLY 2 ****ING YEARS AT 20 MILLION PER? Dirk has taken pay cut after pay cut after pay cut after pay cut and they only give him 2 ****ing years at 20 million per? How ****ing dare they... He deserves 25 per over 4 years bruh like wade... Am I right guys?

He's trolling the Wade fanboys who think they get a percentage off Wade's contract..

Dirk actually wants to stay in Dallas by all accounts. He is not going to chase another ring at the end of his career and most know in DFW that he has a handshake deal in which he will be rewarded by Cuban in perpetuity as a member of the front office. Don't cry for Dirk, life is good for him...

His relationship with Cuban is priceless. They're practically family. Cuban would bend over for Dirk any day with or without him being in the NBA.

Lol there are still people in here that think him and wade deserve more because they choose to take pay cuts... What owner wants to hurt their team by offering declining aged players a big percent of the cap because of what said player did years ago? Its dumb lol

With the benefit of hindsight not sure Dirk would have taken the huge hometown discounts he has taken the past several years had he known that the Mavs would NOT be able to take advantage of those savings and land a big fish in free agency. Cuban readily acknowledges now that he misread the implications of the new CBA circa 2011 by thinking that "dry powder" (his term) would be the end all be all under the new CBA thus his move to dismantle the championship team to clear cap room. Without the assets on the team all his dry powder couldn't buy him a cup of coffee let alone any stars to put next to Dirk.

When you've been with a franchise your whole career, and they've treated you well.. There's really no point in leaving. Guys like Dirk/Duncan ext have really special bonds with the teams/cities..

Anyone think there's any chance Dirk doesn't already have a front office job lined up?

He'll get paid by Cuban eventually.

That contract is actually Dirk's choice. Cuban has routinely said that Dirk can have whatever he wants. If Dirk walked in to Cuban's office at the end of the year and said he wanted a max deal for 5 years Cuban would have given it to him. Dirk understands though that would not be beneficial to the team. They may not be in position to win a title but at least they will be competitive. If he took a max deal for 5 years there is no way in hell they could be competitive. Dirk also knows he's not playing 5 more years and doesn't want to screw the team over.

Dirk will also definitely have a job with the team after he's retired (like Mike Finley, Derek Harper, and Eduardo Najara). I would love to see Dirk take a role as the Mavs Euro scout. Let him pass on the knowledge that Holger taught him.
