The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to acquire Andrew Bogut from the Golden State Warriors via trade.

The Warriors needed to unload Bogut's salary to create cap space to sign Kevin Durant.

Golden State acquired Bogut in 2012 in what was then a controversial trade with the Milwaukee Bucks for Monta Ellis..

Not long after the Durant decision the Warriors and Mavericks started talking ó Dallas wants a center, and becuse they are well below the salary cap they could absorb Bogutís $11 million salary for next season and send nothing back.http://nba.nbcsports.com/2016/07/04/report-warriors-mavericks-have-agreement-in-principle-to-send-andrew-bogut-to-dallas/?utm_network=twitter&utm_post=5985939&utm_source=TW%20%40NBCSports&utm_tags=srm[basketball]

A few years ago this would have been a fantastic addition for them. However, I'm not too sure how much he has left in him. Maybe one or two more years of production as long as his minutes are limited and he is used correctly

Makes a lot of sense for Dallas. They desperately need a center and Bogut fits the bill for what they need. Also by acquiring him they gaurentee that the Warriors get Durant and they get their man in Harrision Barnes as the Warriors have no need to match anymore.

Good move for Dallas! But, it doesn't matter...I see the Death Squad on the horizon. Run!

Maybe Dallas had a trade exception or something. I don't think you can trade a player to a team for absolutely nothing, even if that team is far enough under the cap.

And seriously, what is Cuban doing? The past 2 or 3 years, he's been putting bandaids on the Mavericks in the offseason, throwing stuff against the wall and hoping some of it will stick. This is not how you ride out Dirk's final years. If the team can't be competitive, and they won't this season (fringe playoff team at best), they need to try and trade Dirk to a contender so that the end of his career isn't meaningless like Kobe's.

Mark Cuban is really trying to become a villain here. Okay, you get a C on the cheap relative to the contracts given out this year. But what's the point? To say "I am a playoff contender, like that last almost two decades?"

He is a good trade asset at the deadline if he is playing well

Even if he isn't playing well his expiring contract is an asset, so is DWill. If teams are looking to acquire a center or PG at the trade deadline Mavs will be in the mix. They'll be looking for young players or draft picks for Bogut and DWill.

Doubt you can get much for Bogut or D-Will anyways. I can't see a contender giving up a late first for D-Will.

DWill would be a valuable asset to a team like the Spurs. Parker is getting older and DWill would fit perfect in Pop's system. I'm sure they have the rights to a young Euro that the Mavs would be interested in. What if a team like the Bucks are trying to make a playoff run and need a quality backup PG (same for the Pacers). I could easily see one of those teams giving up a late 1st for a good veteran PG.

All of this applies to Bogut too. Plenty of playoff teams would love to add a quality big man for a late 1st round pick.

Or they could keep both and just take all that money coming off their books. Either way it's win/win for Dallas.

They have to send something of "value" back in trade, even if it's the right to swap 2nd round picks.
