4 Place for us since April 12th. With Rays loosing 11 straight hopefully we can sweep. Great pitching matchups.

If we had another bat this wouldn't be happening.

Joking aside, Rodriguez is getting rocked.

Fire Willis and Farrell. You can't make a trade for a starter or your going to blow up your farm system.

We need to fire Farrell or do something. A trade isn't happening anytime soon

Must be the offences fault again for allowing 5 runs in the very first inning.

Come on offence, you had 1 inning to prove yourself. I know our pitching sure did but they aren't the problem. (Right)

I think the blame is on Willis. He is the pitching coach. Obviously what ever he says/does players not listening. Farrell manages the team but has zero control on the pitchers that's Willis. That's where I would start is with Willis.

Dustin Pedroia appeared to give Eduardo Rodriguez an expletive-laden pep talk during that mound visit.

Completely pathetic, but, hilarious!

One things for sure is Farrell and the Pitching coach needs to go.

Not sure how this is Farrell's fault at all, he's simply playing the hand he's dealt by the GM. What's Johnny boy really supposed to do when his pitchers aren't doing their jobs? Go out there and pitch for them himself like it's 1989 again?

The pitching coach clearly needs to be relieved of his duties immediately. The terribleness just keeps snowballing and getting worse.

He looked good til the second time through their order, now all hell is about to break loose.

This is hilarious. The spokes on the wheel of a broken pitching staff keep turning...

Oh, walked in a run. Could be worse I guess. Glass half full, lmao.

90 pitches through 4 innings. I hope the bullpen is ready to work overtime again for the infinite time this season.

Wow, it's amazing the way Price's poor start kept the Sox hitless thru five innings and caused them to squander a bases-loaded opportunity in the sixth. #offensiveluxury

Not a great start by Price, but the offense did nothing.

LMFAO.

Dating back to last Wednesday, Boston has scored 42 runs. That's 42 runs in 7 games, but you're finally aloud to come out of your closet and FINALLY say "I told you so."

Congratulations on your "1" moment of glory. You've been waiting a while to be proven right, now go back to your closet while you get proven wrong for another weeks stretch them come out again.

Pitching.

There's your Achilles heel. Viewing everything at the macro level (cumulative runs scored) keeps you from seeing the underlying performances. With yesterday's loss it's 42 runs in the previous 8 games. 8 games is a very convenient slice for you. Why not a more traditional round number like 10, 15, or 20? Oh, wait, is it possibly because you ended it just before the Sox were held to 4 total runs over 3 games? Nah, you wouldn't slice the data just to support your side, would you?

44 runs over 10 games => 4.4 R/G
63 runs over 15 games => 4.2 R/G
93 runs over 20 games => 4.65 R/G (eliminate a 15 run outburst against AL worst MIN and it's 4.1R/G)

In that 20 game span, the Sox scored 6+ ER 8 times. The average ERA of the opposing SP in those games was 5.25. A couple guys with decent ERAs (Quintana: 3.04, Snell: 3.54 in 4 starts) kept it below 6.00. Just to put that in perspective, that average ERA would be 13th worst among all qualifying MLB starters. Sweet! Let's get stoked for a team that puts up above average run production against the worst starters in the game! Playoff bound, baby, playoff bound. Now all we need to do is hope that we face the Twins (5.16ERA) in the ALCS and we're a shoe-in for the WS! #offensiveluxury

No we're not playoff bound because the pitching has been absolutely atrocious from the ace right on down to the long man in the pen.

Until the pitching is addressed, no playoffs. I guess we can hit our way into a wildcard spot though. One and done.

How is a team that is scoring fewer runs per game that the average AL team over the past 10/15/20 games going to "hit [its] way into a wild card spot"? A team that's held at 3ER or less with increasing frequency? Oh, right -- score big against the 4/5 pitchers we face a couple times per week and then hope that Price can right the ship, Wright can continue one of the historically best seasons ever by a knuckleballer, and Porcello or your trade target can shut down an opponent for us to steal a 3-1 win a few times per week.

It's amazing that you really cannot acknowledge that the offense has anything more than a desire for "luxury."

Replace Farrell with Luvollo and Willis with Clemens.

Replace Willis with a used mop in an abandoned shed and our pitching would be better off.

Atleast you wouldn't have to pay it to get the same results.

The pitching coach clearly needs to be relieved of his duties immediately. The terribleness just keeps snowballing and getting worse.

For the first time this year I watched a game through every pitch and listened to the post game interviews - the "aces" last start. We are talking the worst team in the AL, and outside of dominating the bottom 3 hitters they ate him up, then he gives that interview - clueless. Also Bradley's moronic getting picked off.

The team is rudderless, the expensive pitching staff is populated by high paid guys that nibble away. How about pitching inside? How about hitting someone? How about an "ace" that ends losing streaks?

Farrell might be a good clubhouse or spring training Mgr., but, his in game moves put him in the bottom 5 ML wide.

This team that once "had it", has it no longer. No change means that tough 2nd half schedule will chew them up and spit them out.

JF should be fired at the end the road trip, we've got the $ priced Bench Coach, let's see what he can do.

Hanley Ramirez “was trying to hit a grand salami” when he took a big swing at a high fastball in the sixth inning Wednesday. He missed, but that was the least of his problems.

Ramirez strained muscles on his right side and came out of the game in the eighth inning.

“Wanted him to get off the field, precautionary,” manager John Farrell said after the 4-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Ramirez said he would play Friday against the Angels. But such injuries can linger. He acknowledged that he got tighter over time.

“I was a little bit scared to swing,” said Ramirez. “I was like, I don’t want to take any risks. I talked to John, and we’re just trying to prevent something big. He told me that we’re not going to put your season on the line.”Boston Globe

Just seeing these two things side by side caused me to start putting other things together. Bradley trying to steal 3B with two outs down 4. HanRam and other "big hitters" bunting on their own. Bogaerts continuing to dive into 1B. Individually these things may be trivial. Collectively, the repeated mistakes (i.e., "we've tried to get him to stop diving") say exactly what you've connected here -- the team is rudderless. At least Tito recognized when he'd lost the clubhouse.
