Analytic NBA writer Zach Lowe has a game for the dog days of the NBA season called the Marc Gasol All-Stars (http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/14924135/a-guide-most-watchable-players-nba). Lowe picks 12 of his favorite players to watch, with some ground rules:

If possible, no actual All-Stars. Stephen Curry and Russell Westbrook are fun to watch. Duh.
Ditto for the high-profile rookie phenoms we've been drooling over (or arguing about) all season; Kristaps Porzingis, Karl-Anthony Towns, D'Angelo Russell, Jahlil Okafor, Myles Turner and others need not apply.
You have to be more than a bit player. Fun guys like Willie Cauley-Stein, JaMychal Green and longtime favorite Kyle O'Quinn haven't hit the undefined Gasol minutes threshold.
We use an All-Star-style 12-man roster with a realistic mix of guards, wings and big men.
No Warriors! Andre Iguodala is a natural for this, but we've all written plenty on Golden State, and we'll write plenty more.
- Zach Lowe
Pick your Marc Gasol All-Stars. And please, follow the rules, and make Mr. Lowe proud.

The no all-star rule ... is that no players who were EVER all-stars? Marc Gasol/Blake Griffin etc. are not available?

G: Dame, Khris Middleton, Reggie Jackson, CJ McCollum, Bradley Beal
F: Gordon Hayward, Favors, Batum, Chandler Parsons, Danilo Gallinari
C: Deandre Jordan, Rudy Gobert

I made the assumption that we couldn't include any players who had ever been an all-star.

3 or 4 Bucks could be in this. Middleton, Parker, Giannis, Monroe.

Lillard is a 2-time All-Star, so I don't think you can pick him anyways.

It's hard to get an All-Star nod at point guard when you are competing against prime Curry, Westy, and an all-time great like CP3.

You are right. I saw other people putting him

So Lowe is calling it the Marc Gasol all-stars but you can't pick a player who's been an all-star even though Gasol has been one.. Makes sense..

He started this article back when Marc Gasol hadn't yet been picked as an All-Star. If anything, it shows how insightful he was as he correctly identified a guy who was underappreciated.
