Red Sox first base coach and former Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. tells Bob Nightengale of USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/bob-nightengale/2016/03/03/ruben-amaro-jr-loses-power-gains-sanity-red-sox-coach/81273922/) that “Ben [Cherington] did the right thing by not trading” young core players for lefthander Cole Hamels. Amaro also told Nightengale that a Hamels-to-Boston deal was never close. Within the article, Nightengale writes that the Phillies initially sought Betts and Blake Swihart for Hamels before switching their request to one of those players plus Henry Owens.Alex Speier

Thank god DD wasn't the GM yet... I like DD, but very worried about what trades he could end up making.

Swihart and Owens wouldn't of been too bad but no way Betts even if it was a straight up swap.

Makes one wonder about the past with Lester getting 5/100 when he said he'd take a discount and LL stayed the Fooook out of the way...

Betts was never on the table for any trade. What a waste of time.
