Too bad it didnt work out for Bennet here, prob done in the league, like the move for Raps though

The Toronto Raptors will waive former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett on Monday and sign veteran forward Jason Thompson for the remainder of the season, league sources told The Vertical.

Bennett, 22, played 19 games for the Raptors this season after returning to his hometown franchise as a free agent in September. In releasing Bennett and signing Thompson, Toronto will fortify its frontcourt depth and give Bennett an opportunity to seek an increased role elsewhere.

The Phoenix Suns may look into Bennett once he clears waivers, sources said.

Bennett, the first pick by Cleveland in 2013, has averaged 4.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 128 career games for the Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Raptors. During his stints with Cleveland and Minnesota, Bennett a former standout at UNLV had injury setbacks.

He averaged 1.5 points and 1.2 rebounds this season, remaining professional in limited minutes and developing on a veteran-laden team.

Bennett had a strong summer for the Canadian national team before returning to the U.S. and completing a buyout with Minnesota.

Thompson was waived by the Golden State Warriors last week to create roster space for the signing of Anderson Varejao. The 6-foot-11 Thompson has averaged nine points and 6.7 rebounds in eight NBA seasons with Sacramento and Golden State.

Not sure this warranted a thread in the NBA forum though I do like the move for the raps.

Strange move. I heard Thompson was having an underwhelming time with the Warriors, hence the cut, or maybe they're so stacked he couldn't really get a groove going. Bennett is probably done at this point. Wonder if the Spurs would take him. Why Phoenix? What is going on down there? What team do they want to be?

The Suns are tanking so why not take a flier on Bennett for 25 games for the minimum and give him some PT to help the tank and maybe see that he's worth another contract.

Jason Thompson supposedly couldn't understand the Warriors offense or defense which left him buried at the end of the bench behind 2 undrafted players. He was supposedly a good guy and worked hard, just didn't work out.

Bennett has scored less NBA points than Greg Oden

Like this move for the Raps. Thompson don't fit the Warriors schemes but that doesn't make him a bad player just a bad fit. He could help the Raps and has shown to be a capable player in the NBA.

Worst first overall pick ever?

In the conversation for sure. It kinda sucks because it seems like he is a decent guy but dude just can't play on the NBA level for some reason. He should have at least been Millsap lite.

I can't remember who it was, but a user used to just blow up the Wolves forum saying we should be playing Bennett 35 mpg, and feeding him the ball.

Bennett sucks. He may very well be the worst #1 pick in history.

Worse than Andrea Bargnani and Kwame Brown?

Hell yeah. Neither one lived up to being #1 picks, but they were at least able to have respectable nba careers.

They at least lasted in the league... Kwame became a good defender and Bargs has had some double digit scoring seasons. It's no comparison with those 3. Bennett is seriously in the running. The crazy part is everyone knew it was a mess at the time too. People forget that the problem was Dipo, Otto Porter, Cody Zeller, Alex Len were the next 4 picks. Bunch of role players. Cavs probably thought they were gambling on the highest upside player.

Not even close.

Kwame lasted 12 seasons. Bargs is at 10, and while he's bad, the Raps were able to fleece a team out of a 1st round pick for him and he's averaged 10+ points every year of his career until this season. Bennett has literally no value at all right now. He might be overseas next season.

Bennet makes Kwames career look like Bill Russell's...

Andrea Bargnani was the worst player in the league for like half a dozen years running. He had that rare combination of extremely poor play with enough minutes to REALLY hurt his team.

Kwame Brown actually had a decent career. Not worth a #1 pick, but decent.

No idea what people saw in Bennett.

those 2 played NBA mins. Bennett has not, and probably is running out of chances.

When Cleveland picked him everyone kind of raised an eyebrow but I don't think anyone saw this coming. Other then injuries derailing guys nobody has been picked there and been out of the league this quickly that I can think of.

To be fair, it was a TERRIBLE draft to have the #1 pick.
