View Full Version : Your Best Steal

What do you think your best steal was in the draft?

I say mine was Rich Harden in the 9th round with the 97th pick

Or

Freddy Garcia in the 20th round with the 240th pick.

If Harden actually plays a full season he'll put up the numbers. Everybody knows he's great, it's just the question if he could stay healthy.

If Freddy Garcia gets the NL boost that pitchers get when leaving the AL he could be a good pick.

Lowry, Chris B Young, and Oliver Perez.

Lowry was injured or something last year, but his previous #'s indicate he has a solid BAA, WHIP, and good strikeout totals. Most pesimistic projects have Young at 20/20, and optimistically have him at 25/25 with a good average. Perez has his velocity back up, and he's striking guys out again. He's got great control, and with that Mets lineup should have a pretty good season.

Harden was definetly good, I think you got him one round before I wanted him :(.

Oliver Perez completely lost it for the last 2 seasons. If he can do what he did in 2004 or come close to it, that would be a great pick.

Kazmir in the 12th round is definitely a steal, but I don't know about Glavine in the second last round. He's available off the waiver wire in the leagues I've drafted in so far.

Rich Hill could be a very decent steal (13th round, 151st overall). Highly rated young pitcher on a much improved team.

After the all-star break he had a 2.93 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 80 IP, 79K.

And unlike most of the other young sophomores, he didnt pitch so many innings that he would be considered an injury risk this year (Verlander!).

Not that i would take advise from Sportsnet, but they had a short piece on sleepers and chose Josh Barfield, Mike Piazza, Freddy Garcia and Mark Teahen (they predicted a 30/100/20 season, yikes)

Jonathan Papelbon in the 8th
he should be a really good closer.

Griffey Jr. in the 18th round is a pretty nice one and Adrian Gonzalez in the 19th.

Just wondering which players turned out to be the biggest steals for you so far? Gonzalez and Griffey have definitely been mine.

Sheffield (1B,OF) in the 7th round (as 78th pick - now 5th in the rankings), Byrnes (OF) in the 14th (as 163th - now 19th) and Isringhausen (closer) in the 17th round (as 198th - now 52th)!

Kevin Youkilis in the 18th round I believe and Josh Beckett in a double digit as well. (I think)

Pretty much my entire pitching staff this year...all WW. Josh Hamilton & Hunter Pence were nice pick ups. But if we're talking drafted guys, Prince Fielder.
