Can't wait to see what LaVine has for us. Hopefully we get a preview tonight.

Too bad they replaced Noel with Booker. He is good, but Randle's 11/10 is hard to overlook.

Can't wait 4 rising

I don't like that United states vs foreigners concept. They could have did east vs west, or team Shaq vs team Barkley like they did before.

I don't mind the world vs usa thing. But if they scrap that, I'd love to see them just with a pool of players and have the celebrity 'coaches' pick them right before the game like in the schoolyard. Could make for some comedic 'who gets picked first' antics.

Also Jabari posterized porzingis at the end lol. It was a good game. I like this setup. Guys like Jokic, Mario, bagdanovic, ect. have a lot in common.

I picked him as my dark horse rookie of the year candidate. His skills haven't fully translated and Skiles rotations completely changed my opinion on him, I was glad to see him put on a show. Even if it was an exhibition.

Yeah he's been getting minutes recently though, and playing well. I dont think skiles is to blame here, Mario sucked at the beginning of the year. Mostly defense, ball handling and IQ has been a significant improvement. Or at least it seems that way because he's more comfortable. Have to remember the kid was fresh to the US, has only visited once before, weak English and he didn't know much about the NBA game. I'm sure he knew Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, but he didn't used to watch NBA games. IQ was one thing I was worried about, but not at all anymore. Seems like he just needed to adjust. He's more well rounded than people think. He looked like he was having fun in that game, and seems like he gets along with people well.

Skiles rotations are a headache, he can never seem to make up his mind on who he's giving minutes too. That's nothing new though.

I'm of the opinion if guys aren't getting minutes there's only so much they can improve. Much of what needs improved for rookies is done so by learning from mistakes in games.

I'm surprised at him not following the NBA, almost every kid who gets into basketball is aware of the NBA and was influenced by it in some way. And once you get to a certain level you start mimicking moves and stealing stuff from pro players. Not to mention he shared a locker room with a lot of Rubios old team mates.

Yeah but i'll give skiles some room here, he's learning a lot about his new players. This is just his first season, and we didn't exactly have a set starting line up to start the season. The team is just so young, players are still finding themselves.

Well, its like skiles said he gets paid a good amount of money to win them games. Can't expect him to take us to the play offs with two 20 yr olds playing 30+mpg. Young players don't make much of an impact in the W-L column. Plenty of young players didn't play much their first year and still became stars. Plus, it seems Mario did improve through out the season. I mean in some ways you can look at it as an advantage. You're not putting too much pressure on the guy too early.

I remember Mario himself said he didn't watch much NBA. kid was focused on his team and league. He wanted to win a championship there.

Wow I am so hyped. Wasn't it great to see such a good dunk contest? Just refreshing .... of course i feel AG got robbed lol

I feel AGs dunks were just way more creative then lavines... that one where STUFF was spinning and he scooped it and 360 dunked it 1 handed?

The seat dunk off of STUFFS head?

And then more appreciated in slow motion, he went tomahawk and then went under his nuts and reversed it.

I think lavines were insane tho. But his first one shouldn't have been a 50 IMO ... and Gordon's reverse shouldn't have been a 47, I've never seen someone do that all the way back and all the way under and then dunk it.

Lavines were all free throw dunks ... all great

I'm super impressed when has a dunk contest gone into extra rounds? Love it

and I do agree with kenny people need to start actually paying attention to the dunks and just not the stupid *** players running on the court or how hard something is dunked.. when he dunked behind his head to between his legs... that was a fantastic dunk that got a 47... really?

It's gotta be a bit disheartening to not win after those dunks. I hope he's back though. I don't think it should've come to a dunk off, but they put on a show at least

I think he understands that he won the hearts of many fans though. Even with Lavine having a huge advantage for that exact same reason. You're right it was a good show. Best dunk contest in years.

I'm blown away by ag I new.he could dunk and all but I just didn't think anyone could keep up with Zach, Zach is a diff breed with his handles for his dunks. He is so so so fast and doesn't mess up the handle at all and his hang time is off the charts.

But ag really impressed me
AG had the creativity advantage.

The Judging and the constant use of people/items or dumb **** makes me not ever want to watch... the dude with by far the best drunk of the night and in years got screwed because the judging is ********... it shouldnt have gone to a dunk off... they should have went down the line and asked each judge who he thinks won... or have a fan vote.
I thought about the last round (3rd dunk in the finals) being a sudden death too but ppl are woulda complained anyways. Think about it....we'd be saying WE WANT MORE lol. It's kinda like the nfl OT rules with ppl complaining Rodgers never got a chance vs ARZ

I doubt its the last we see of Gordon in a dunk contest. Hopefully both come back and more prepared next season and put on a real show.
I hope not. Hopefully he doesn't get disheartened and avoid it like iguodala after he was robbed.

I think Gordon won but I can't complain. Both guys were amazing.

Skills Challenge Finals were good, seeing IT and KAT going all in and the teammates celebrating after KAT made the shot was great.
3pt contest as always was amazing too.
The Dunk contest stole the show. Gordon got robbed big time, he had the best 2 dunks and a very underrated one with the behind the head, down and then up again. The judging ****ed up right when they decided to give Lavine a 50 after the dunk Gordon made. He was ****ing sitting in the air. He was sitting 12 or more inches above that 6'5"? Mascot... That was incredible.

Great ASGW so far.

Gordon got robbed. But overall, it's been one of the better all-star weekends in recent memory. The Skills competition was good, the 3pt shootout was the best I've seen, and the dunk contest wasn't a flop like the last several years.

Friday night was fun, not great but fun.

Saturday was the best I've ever seen.

Sunday, I can only hope we get to see Kobe battling someone one on one for a little while, going back and forth. And some competitiveness.

That would make it the best ASW of my lifetime. A fun Friday with decent celebs, a brilliant Saturday that included a star studded 3pt contest, a really competitive skills contest, the rebirth of the dunk contest from the ashes that were left behind over a decade ago and a competitive All Star Game with a farewell to Kobe, one of the greats.

I didn't expect this weekend to be so good, had almost given up on the all star weekend.

Aaron Gordon was ripped off. That Mascot Hoverboard 360 handoff dunk was the most creative dunk..... it's got to be one of the greatest dunks ever. There's so much you have to get right. The timing of grabbing the ball as the Mascot rotated, then cup it and go behind while putting a hand behind your head....man. And he did his Mascot dunks on the first try....none of these 5 tries... I hope he comes back next year. The dunk contest has been ho hum since Vince Carter.

I feel like I'm very glad Shaq tried to bring at least a little credibility to the judging, would be nice if the rest would follow suit. I agree with him, if you don't get it on the first try, it shouldn't be a 10.

lets hope the all star game tonight doesnt turn into a 3p contest 2.0. last year a combined 133 3 point attempts. i want to see some 1v1 and some epic lobs and dunks and moves. not just walk up the court, jack up a three, and repeat

I wish they would introduce one v. one duel contest...but I guess players don't want to do that. Would have loved to see Michael vs. Dominique one on one....or Hakeem v. (insert center). I guess players are too afraid to do it.

Its been a pleasure to have seen one of the true legends of this game have such a spectacular career. I can't believe I'm about to see Kobe in his last all star game. What a pathetic letdown to a great All-Star weekend. Got off work to watch some of the 2nd and 3rd. Definitely will not be tuning in to the 4th quarter. Why are today's players so much more pampered, yet get hurt so much more? Was reading an ESPN article... man back in the day, stars played 40mpg, hardly missed any games and the ASG was much more legit. guys flew coach in seats they couldn't fit, the sneakers werent the same, no fancy locker rooms or training staff...

now, even with all the advantages of these modern atheletes, flying in private jets, new tech sneakers, access to state of the art training and practice facilities, you have these guys missing 20 games a year regularly, and playing 32-35mpg, and they are STILL complaining about playing too many games.

I have always looked forward to all star weekend over the years ever since I began watching basketball as a kid. It has rich history, though, over time it has developed into a sloppy skills challenge.
Last night was no different. Absolutely no defense and yet another record setting scoring night .

Kobe used to go ham in his hayday in these all star events. I thought it was great when LBJ jokingly challenged him 1 on 1 on that Kobe jump shot off the dribble. I literally will NEVER forget that moment. Classic. And it was cool to see the admiration in the eyes of all those other allstars out there having the privlage of playing on the same court as the Black Mamba. He is so highly respected and appreciated.
And although the Lakers may **** I am glad he is going out a happy man. He may have fallen 1 ring short of MJ [7 appearances all together] but he knows damn well he did everything he possibly could in his career to acheive such extroidanary accomplishments. He put every ounce of effort he ever had into this game from day 1.
His love and devotion to this game is unmeasurable and cannot be matched. He was never handed anything, he worked for every single thing he has ever obtained.

Any true NBA fan should appreciate what Kobe has done for this game..his legacy will live on forever.

I actually think today's players have coaches/trainers who understand that to maximize the length of their careers, minor injuries matter more than they used to.

That and the fact that NBA contracts are guaranteed, and are just skyrocketing, making an individual player much more of a long term investment. Ie, health is being guarded much more nowadays.

does it work though? I mean back in the day guys still played for 15+ years and huge minutes and rarely missed games. Look at Stockton and Malone, Reggie, Barkley, Drexler...list goes on and on. it seems the previous generation of stars played much more. Today's stars seem so fragile.

I think a guy like Duncan would have played 15+ years regardless, some guys are just more injury prone. I don't know if playing 33mpg and 65 games vs 38mpg and 80 games is really going to change it.

IDK, just seems like things are going overboard, and now on top of it all the talk of shortening the season.

I think it works. First off, look at the players from back then. They walk like they are zombies by 50. And I do think it helps keep efficiency higher longer. They do have evidence backing up that injuries are lessened by fewer back to backs, or 4 games in 5 nights type stuff (or at least historically it shows to help). Obviously players nowadays have more elective things done to them, but again, I think it's for the advancement of a sport. Pops has been using it to his advantage for a decade or more. Coaches like Thibs have that old school mentality, and he was about to kill Rose for example.

It already started in the NFL. Post career health in sports is being looked at, as is the Spurs model of resting players through the season (can't really argue with their results). Playing 100 games a year for 5 years obviously has already slowed LeBron some.

Not every BODY is built the same. Some like Stockton, who weighed 190 lbs, can play forever. The bigger guys are just freaks that pulled it off. And lucky.

I gotta say this game was disheartening to watch. I know that defense is always light, but the teams usually start competing in the late stages of the game. This was the first one I've seen that lacked any and all competitive fire. Really lame affair. Go watch Jordan's last All-Star Game to see how it should be played. I mean, we all know these teams can score 200 and make 3's all over the place and leap to the moon, but that's not why I watch basketball.

I think Gordon should have won but that's the nature of the beast when it is out of 50. Zach LaVine's dunks were a 50 also but Gordon's were a better 50. If we could have gone higher than 50 then Gordon would have won. But LaVine just had more versatility which is why he won.

Gordon's last dunk was nice but I don't think it was a 50. I think it was a 49 or 48 but not a 50. I think Gordon had the better night but since the top score is 50, he got robbed because his were like 60 dunks and Gordon's were like 50 dunks.
