View Full Version : If Memphis Kept Pau and traded for Marc

I know hypothetical questions can be annoying for some people, so I apologize in advanced.

I was thinking a couple of weeks ago how good Memphis would have been had they kept Pau and did a smaller trade to acquire Marc from the Lakers. At the time, Marc wasn't really a coveted player so I'm sure it would have been realistic for Memphis to acquire for cheap.

My question, how good do you think Memphis would have been with Pau at PF and Marc at C? Would they have been a middle of the pack team or a legitimate contender every year?

Hypothetical 2007-2008 Roster

PG: Mike Conley - Kyle Lowry
SG: Mike Miller - Juan Carlos Navaro
SF: Rudy Gay - Hakim Warrick
PF: Pau Gasol - Brian Cardinal
C: Marc Gasol - Darko Milicic

Potential championship team. One of my favorite what ifs is the Gasol brothers playing together in the NBA. Definitely enough playmakers on the wing and at guard. Kyle Lowry on the bench is sneaky.

Well Memphis let Lowry go and we would only know to keep him in hindsight, so I doubt he'd still be on that team.

I think a bigger deal than Pau would actually be if they kept Mile Miller since Memphis' big problem has been no 3pt shooters (although without Tony Allen they'd lose backcourt defense).

Zbo (and Allen) also added a toughness that became their identity and the Gasol brothers team is way more finesse.

Overall a good team, but the biggest change to the league would be LAL not being the juggernaught they were.

second round team.

Also lowery really wasn't there very long and when he was there they never played him everythought he's better than Conley.

Also rudy gay is a loser.

I'd like a hypothetical where we never included Marc in the first place.

Marc / Bynum
Pau / Odom
Ariza or MWP
Kobe
Fish

we would've probably 3peated (beaten boston in 08) :p

you can hypotheticals about every team...

For example, if my Blazers had drafted any one of McAdoo over LaRue Martin, Bird over Mychal Thompson, Jordan over Sam Bowie and Kevin Durant over Oden, I wouldn't be such a pessimist.

What if the C's kept Billups and took Tmac instead of Mercer in 9

What if Bias didnt die?

What if the Celtics got Tim Duncan?

What if KG didnt get hurt in 2009?

What if Perkins didnt get hurt in 2010?

What if DR J played for the Bucks instead of going to ABA? Bucks would of had a few more trophies. As well as Kareem might of stayed in Milwaukee.

If you guys are genuinely curious about what people think of those hypotheticals, make a thread about it.

If that's not why you posted those hypotheticals and you were doing it facetiously, hypothetically, what if you weren't douchebags?

You seem upset

I am not. If I were upset, I would've used an exclamation point as proper punctuation dictates.

Thanks for having my back. I even apologized in advanced because I know some guys menstruate at hypothetical threads. :(
