View Full Version : Is Steph Curry the greatest player to come from a small college?

I mean has anybody here ever even heard of Davidson college before Stephen Curry? I highly doubt it.

The closest I can think of is Bill Russell from San Francisco State but that school used to be pretty good at recruitment back in the day. KC Jones and Bill Cartwright came from there too.

Tim Hardaway came from UTEP but other than those I cant think of any other great players from small schools. Can anybody else think of any?

Since he is the greatest player EVER, the answer to that is yes ;-)

I kid.... I'm not sure what constitutes a 'small' college or who came from where.

Who else would be in contention for this title?

Dennis Rodman played at an NAIA school. Now that's truly small Davidson is still a legit D1

Scottie Pippen - Central Arkansas? Not sure how "big" they've been but it seems like a small school to me.

Pretty sure it was NAIA at that point too.

Pippen went to an NAIA school in Arkansas and wasn't even recruited there. He's the greatest NBA player who came out of nowhere.

Edit: Never mind, just mentioned.

You could also throw in guys like Bird, Malone, Stockton, and David Robinson. Indiana State, LA Tech, Gonzaga, and Navy were no giants in their times either.

Kevin Garnett: Moonville High. All his records say he was born in Greenville SC. But Moonville is a small town in the county. Also Lillard went to Weber and Leonard went to San D state. Also Paul George went to Fresno. As much as a curry homer as I am. This seems to be looking for just another pointless accolade to give him.

Central Arkansas is D2 not NAIA so I will stand by Rodman. He basically has every NAIA rebounding record.

It was NAIA when Pippen was there.

Fun fact-Pippen graduated from high school at 6', and grew 7 inches his freshman year in college. The dude was just a late bloomer is all. That spurt happens a year prior, and he is playing for a D1 college.

But, that doesn't change where he went, I know that.

No on Bird. He left Indiana after a few weeks cause he was scared of how big it was haha.
