This question was brought up on Twitter, so I thought I'd ask it here. Here is mine:

1. LeBron James
2. Paul George
3. Jimmy Butler
4. Kyrie Irving
5. John Wall

LBJ, PG13, Butler, Lowrey, Drummond

**Kyrie ineligible in my eyes for not playing yet this year.

Thomas is a great mention above, he has been really good this year. And yes, Wall is trash. He keeps being mentioned as this elite PG, and he is nowhere near that.

Melo and Horford should fight for the last spot. Both having down years but have done enough in years prior to warrant that last spot IMO. If we are analyzing this season alone in a vacuum that probably Lowry.

Melo has had a couple down years in a row. Not top 5 I'm east anymore

Agreed. I would give the nod to Melo if he wasn't so bad/hurt last year. He kinda needs to re-establish himself.

But it's KP's team now!

harford was going to be my pick but he #s aren't great right now. Melo should be the guy but he hasn't shot well so far. I think Thomas and Lowery are the best picks but i could see a case for Gasol and Derozen too. there are a lot of guys

Lebron
Paul George
Drummond
Butler
Lowry/Derozan/Melo (Hard to decide between the 3)

Isiah Thomas has been very, very good too, so I would probably put him and possibly Wall right up there too for the 5th spot.

Melo has shot too poorly, I'd put Lowry at #5... though to be fair he's only shooting 41% also...lol.

man makes you realize the east doesnt have much star power.

actually i take it back and I say Milsap at #5, he's quietly having a great all around year.

18.2/8.9/3.5/1.8/1.2 on just 12 shots a game and shooting 49%. 23.5 PER

ATL is 16-12 and not in the playoff picture right now...thats crazy! The east is stacked so far.

Yea #5 can go a bunch of different ways. You could make a case for Kemba or Batum just for how good Charlotte has been so far as well.

Yea I mean Melo's year is just as good if not better than Lowry's right now which is why I mentioned him having the nod over Kyle if were assessing the better overall player, and not the better season. Both are putting up ~21-7-4 with crappy shooting %.

good call on Milsap. thats like 7 guys you can put there. I leaning towards him, Gasol, and Isiah Thomas. I'd like to say Thomas b/c i think he is the leader of that team and he is just so ****ing fast he not only can impact a game but change the way its being played. I'm going back and forth but I think it should be either Gasol or Thomas.

If you take prior years into account i think Gasol is the guy. He might the guy regardless IMO. 7 footer, double double guy, versatile scorer, great passer.

44%, better than Melo & Lowry at 41%.

Reggie is another good candidate.

Trash is an exaggeration. He's still top 4/5 in that conference. I don't know why people think he's trash. Because he hasn't adjusted to the new system well?

Anyway I've got it as;

LeBron,
Butler,
George,
Drummond,
Millsap,

Honorable mentions; Isaiah and Lowry.

I just don't like the idea of having two guys from the same team on this list unless that team is lightyears ahead of the rest of the pack. That's why I omitted Gasol but statistically he is probably the best pick here.

East is tuff this year, a lot of nice teams that don't really rely on top tier super talent.

This year?

1) LeBron James
2) Paul George
2) Jimmy Butler
4) Andre Drummond
5) Kyle Lowry

In terms of pure talent, and if Kyrie Irving had been healthy:

1) LeBron James
2) Paul George
3) Jimmy Butler
4) Kyrie Irving
5) Andre Drummond

7 assists > 7 rebounds, and Lowry's overall shooting efficiency ***** on Melo's right now. Same with his PER/VORP/RPM/WS, whatever. And a much more competent defender. Much better player at this point.

I don't disagree where we stand today Lowry is having a better year. This is Melo's worst season and Lowry's best. Not sure I think he is a better player though. But he is having a better year. If Melo can get anywhere remotely close to his peak he is much better than Lowry. I don't agree he is a "much more competent defender" though. Melo has been very good on D this year and plenty of different stats back that up.

i agree on Melo get a bad rap on D. He is not as good a player as his hype indicated once but he is damn good. The biggest complaint i have about his game as a knick is I feel he has been unwilling to adapt it at times. He has a pretty versatile skill set and when you are that guy you are the one that gets asked to adapt.
