He died today at 53 years young (I believe)

RIP to one of the biggest characters the NBA has ever seen

I'm always shocked when guys die so young. He was a true character. He was 58.

RIP, loved the guy

He named other dunks as well: the Rim Wrecker, the Go-Rilla, the Look Out Below, the In-Your-Face Disgrace, the Cover Your Head, the Yo-Mama, the Spine-Chiller Supreme, and the Greyhound Special (for the rare occasions when he went coast to coast). The 76ers also kept a separate column on the stat sheet for Dawkins’s self-created nicknames: "Sir Slam", "Dr. Dunkenstein", and "Chocolate Thunder."

So young... that guy had a passion for the game that was unsurpassed. I remember him playing a game with splits on his fingers because he had broken them, but he wasn't going to sit on the side line.

The league could use more guys with his heart.

Rest In Peace to the Chocolate Thunder. One of the classiest NBA legends I have had the honor of meeting.

Not the greatest player but a good one and one of sports' most wonderful characters. I have a vision of him in a news piece I saw on him years ago -- he's at some function and there are like 15 kids following him like he was the Pied Piper. he had that kind of energy.

Hope Sir Dunkalot is having a rump roast and a bun toast in the paint on the Planet Lovetron tonight.
