View Full Version : Tyreke Evans Is the Best Pelican

People are on Davis bandwagon because a good bigman now a days is rare, but let's focus back on the gaurd driven league that is today's NBA and realize one thing: that the fact of the matter is tyreke Evans was the mold and the glue holding everything in place. He was the Andre igoudala of this Pelicans team. He was the finals MVP of this 8th seed that everyone credits anthony Davis and not tyreke, when they should indeed look behind the scenes a bit.

Davis is lucky tyreke Evans played with a great big legend like cousins and taught Davis everything tyreke knew about cousins. Davis is LUCKY tyreke knew what it took out of him and there rest of the team to make Davis the leading scorer. Look at this this way: Davis is a tall toddler in dipers, while tyreke Evans is the baby sitter. His stats this year per 36: 17.6/5.6/7.6/1.3 with incredibly underrated defense and incredibly underrated as a playmaker. Once the Pelicans start hitting their 3s this year I bet all my money tyreke will be able score 25ppg.

The True leader of the Pelicans, who really brought them to the dance. Give credit where credit is due, congratulations, forgotten best SG OF THE 09 draft

I don't think it's a stretch to say Tyreke is their second best player.

I'd much rather have Gordon. He's the better player but people tend to hold his injuries and contract against him.com.com.com

I don't think it's a stretch to say Tyreke is their second best player.

Having watched a bunch of Pels last year, I'd say it's either Tyreke or Asik for the moment. But there are 3-4 more players with similar impact. The team desperately needs a secondary player to step up his game or either to hope the sum of the role players will be greater than the parts around Davis. Asik is good for a one-way center who really helps on the boards and Tyreke is good for a one-way slasher who can pass but both have clear flaws.

Holiday is the 2nd best player on overall talent - it's the injuries that keep him from that distinction in the real world. Gordon is an annoying player, typical AAU pouter who was used to being "the man" scorer but between injuries and natural limitations would be best served as a 3 and D guard who can move off the dribble in the flow of an offense rather than as an initiator. Too bad his D isn't very good, his jumper is somewhat inconsistent (made worse by a goofy release), and his finishing ability is below average. He'll forever be overrated because of PPG worshipers.

I still think it's funny Evans won rookie of the year and he gets worse every year, let alone better than Davis next year.

An obvious troll thread but WTF happened to Tyreke in the playoffs? 10 ppg on .326 from the field. I think about 75% of all PSDers couldve gone out there and stepped up bigger in those games than Evans.

I agree. The thing abut the pelicans is outside of Davis, they have a roster full of underachievers. Holiday got injured and couldn't build on his allstar season he had in Philly. Gordon played his best ball in LA, again because of injuries. Evans never really made any improvements to his offense. If anything he regressed since his rookie year. Anderson also has had a bad stint in NO. He was best when he was with the Magic. He's had tough times outside of basketball that held him back though.
Sucks for them, but its the price the Pelicans have paid because they wanted to be a good team prematurely. If they had just been more patient with their rebuild they could've had a brighter future IMO. If they didn't trade for Holiday they could've had Payton+Noel+capsace.

I think tyreke is far and away their 2nd best player though, is there really a debate?

Is there a reason to take people who cite "a healthy jrue holiday" seriously?

JLynn943

The narrative that Tyreke has regressed every year - or even regressed a lot since his rookie year - is overplayed and false imo. He has arguably had better years than his rookie year, but people are too focused on his 3p% and counting statistics. I think he's definitely the second best player on the team. People give the benefit of the doubt to Gordon and Holiday (but not Tyreke) even though they shouldn't anymore.

I take Gordon, Holiday, Asik, and Anderson before evans. So he is 6th best player on a 8th seed that has a true star and only made the playoffs b/c the West was destroyed by injuries last year.
