Im shocked that this took so long to become a story of some sorts. Ive been talking about this day for months.

Obviously this whole thing is a non-issue if he resigns. But if he decides to 'test free agency' next off-season? Pandoras box everybody. biggest news of the off season.

I thought there was a limit to how much you could offer a player at his age...and that that limit is WAY under $30M a year. Max contracts a) exist and b) are tied to age. What am I missing here? Help?!?

I think you are right.. Then I heard of something like 6x the amount of the current contract

Yeah.

Players with <6 yrs of experience can make 25% of the cap that first year, and can have 7.5% escalators each year after. That is not even close to what they're allegedly offering. There are some exceptions, like the Rose Rule...but that still doesn't get you close. Gets you to 30%, actually. 30% of next year's cap is only $20M, and with the 7.5% escalators you're still not close to that number. It has to be some hypothetical thing based on the new CBA. Or something.

The extension wouldn't kick in until 16-17, when the cap jumps, so this is clearly based on what the cap is projected to be.

06-29-2015, 09:02 PM
Without doing the math it sounds legit or at least close.

25% of $90M starts at $22M+. And he qualifies for the Rose rule which can spike to 30% on that 5th year.

The only thing that might be off is I'm not sure if it can be an extension or it has to be a new contract to get to that number.

Am I the only one not sold on Anthony Davis? Yes, he's talented, pretty much triple double incarnate, but no championships or a sniff of one, already had a few injuries on a questionably good team that is willing to give him the moon. Why not leave the bum *** Pelicans? He's good, but he ain't LeBron or Shaq.

All i want is for someway for AD to end up on the hEAT next to Whiteside, so I can sit back and watch one of the greatest defensive front courts EVER! lol

But back on track, AD just needs to be put in the right situation, with the right organization and the sky is the limit.

If he wants to win a championship don't sign the deal, if he wants money then take it, you can always get the money and a chance to win multiple championships, usually young guys don't care for winning rings early in their careers

What will be the max deal when the cap goes to 110 million in 2 years? (I think I read it somewhere, not quite sure about it being 110)

If AD keeps improving the way he has been, he will become the best player on the planet in a few years taking the torch from LeBron. Kevin Durant must feel left out of the party if he doesn't get back at his absolute best and if AD keeps improving his game I am not sure KD's best will be enough. KD will probably be like "Damn I thought I was gonna be the face of this industry after LeBron but this Davis guy just stole my turn! I guess I will always be second at everything!" LOL

Well if he wants to be one of the greatest to play the game then he needs to be just like shaq lol. Leave as soon he becomes a free agent and go to LA and play with a hyped rookie who hasnt played an NBA game yet.

Fyi its kobe

You don't offer extensions based on "suspected salary cap".

You offer an extension based on the current salary cap. Also, that "extension" that is talked about here is also putting in next year's numbers.

Technically, they WISH he took an extension this season so they can pay him "only" that amount based on the current salary cap. But seriously, Anthony Davis can be out ALL of next season with an injury and he'd still be offered the max on the new salary cap coming next season.

You DO know he was only drafted like 2-3 seasons ago, right? It isn't like he's been playing for 8 years...

I think Blake Griffin only got 5/95. Wonder how AD qualified for so much more despite less accolades (I know things like all NBA appearances affect it etc)?

I think it's based on the big rise in cap that will happen starting 16-17. How they can sign him to a deal based on those numbers when nobody knows what the cap will be then, I have no idea...
