please Flip, just do it

Wiggins-Towns-Shabazz-Lavine-Dieng (left out Bennett/Payne), and even Rubio isn't old by any means. Probably the most talented young core in the NBA, now the Wolves just need to get it right...

@MySportsLegion: As of today, there's a 80% chance the Lakers draft Jahlil Okafor with the 2nd overall pick. (If a Towns goes #1, via @chadfordinsider)

Hearing Lakers settling in on Jahlil Okafor at No. 2. Told 70-30 they'd take him on Friday. Up to 80-20 today.

Exactly

Probably the right pick. The Wolves have a great young core that gives them a really good outlook for the future. They will also be pretty bad again next year, so they should end up with a top 10 pick again next year to put another nice young piece in that core.

What's even more enticing: in the summer of 2017, when Wiggins will just have finished his third year and Towns his second, even if they keep Lavine, Muhammed, Dieng and Payne, they'll only have around $45 million on the books with those six, Rubio and Pekovic. The cap is projected to be around $110 million that summer. That's $65 million in cap space to add to a really strong top 8 with two potential megastars. This is going to get reallllllly interesting.

he was, but his entire staff was in his ear to take Towns (people he trusts), and I think he saw him working out a week and a half ago and was very impressed. He was in town this weekend, and worked out again.

I can't see them passing on Okafor with Clark already there (even though you don't draft for need that high), but Russell might be the better pick. Meh

Ya flip was rumored to want okafor and the staff liked towns. Flip isn't the long term plan at coach though (at least we hope not).

This is great news though since I'm a bigger fan of towns. We have a ton of young pieces now with wiggins/towns as the centerpiece.

Minny needs to tank one more year. Then draft Ben Simmons next year.

C. Towns
PF. Simmons
SF. Wiggins

League better watch out if this happens. Big young 3.

Rubio, Pek (he will miss time this year when he pulls his vag), Shabazz, Martin, Bennett, all missed a lot of games. Then they traded away Mo/Brewer when all was lost. They won't be bad enough for a top 5 pick next year. I can't forsee it at all unless injuries hit again.

Towns will probably start pretty slow because he lives in foul trouble, and finish the season a whole lot better than he starts. Dude jumps for everything, that will get him on the bench fast in the NBA.

Okafor's a center and Randle's a power forward. What are you getting at?

IndyRealist
06-22-2015, 04:27 PM
Randle plays the 4

Yes but Randle's role is effectively the same as Okafor, i.e. post up, get fouled, hit the glass.

Hawkeye15
06-22-2015, 04:37 PM
I get the Lakers can't pass on Okafor, but what does that mean for Randle?

It means the Lakers will have a frontcourt with players who have overlapping skillsets and will probably struggle to defend the paint. Should be able to score though. Randle will need to continue to hone his midrange game though (it was pretty good in college, and I don't see why he can't be a PnR big). It could offensively be a Gasol/Randolph model, though Okafor is a better scorer than Marc.

The defense is where they will suffer big time if Okafor doesn't improve drastically on that end.

Have a feeling we could look back someday and say "Okafor and Wiggins...what if?" if this is true. Analogues from the past? What if this turns out to be Sam Perkins over Charles Barkley? One is a fine player, the other is one of the 15-20 greatest ever. Really really hard to pass up on a skillset like Okafor's.

Supposedly Flip wanted Okafor but was convinced to go Towns. I think that's the right move even though I think Okafor is underrated ... he just doesn't fit the rest of the roster as well as Towns does.

Towns is just the right move. At this point, all the Wolves need to worry about is what vets they're going to put around these guys if they're going to win a chip. Garnett is a great start, but they need to fill out 10-15 with guys who are vets who can show the young bloods how its done. Garnett will need help controlling the locker room. As long as they work hard, Wiggins/Towns will be a world class frontcourt, and with Dieng, Muhammed, Lavine, Rubio etc.. as the young role players, they can be in the playoffs again in 2 years tops. Maybe this year if teams like the Blazers, Dallas really suck and Wiggins, Dieng, Pekovic, Rubio all have really good years. Slight posibility if Towns can contribute right away, and other guys develop, they can make a really big leap.

on draft night I was praying the sixers wouldnt get the first or 2nd pick because I knew we would draft OKA... Go back and look at my posts before the picks were even had... OKA and Mudlay are so overrated its hilarious. I hated that the lakers got the 2 pick only because it was stated they would draft Russel... He is the cream of this crop with towns.... I have a feeling that the sixers will take Mudlay though. My hate for those 2 players has **** to do with the lakers and all to do with how lazy OKA is and how terrible he is on the defensive end.
