But he still might continue to play with another team. I'm guessing he wants to chase #6 for himself. I'm fine with that if he believes he can help a contender win a ring. He can potentially be a better version of Paul Pierce for a team with a couple other primary scorers. I wouldn't mind him in Chicago if we have a roster in a couple season capable of contending for a title.

Discuss.

Matter.

Overrated, chucker, liability on defense, selfish and a cancer which team would want him

That's how it usually goes right ?

If he wants to chase a ring and isnt just looking for another check Im sure a few teams would be interested in him. Could play the vet shooter off the bench like Allen and Fisher did recently.

I just can't see Kobe taking a reduced role on a contender, coming off the bench for 15-20 minutes and taking 8 shots a game. His ego is too big.

it better be, his presence is hurting the team moving forward

I think more like a Vince Carter roll.

Not necessarily come off the bench. Like I said he could take on a role similar to Pierce where he would be a starter but not have to be the focal point offensively. Like for example on the Bulls, Rose and Butler would be the primary scorers and he can be that 3rd wheel giving them 15-18 ppg.

He's not gonna help any contender though. A 38 year old guy with huge mileage and a liability on defense. He's not really a 3 point threat anymore now his jump shot doesn't have the same lift. What contender would he improve if he started for them?

Well I did mention the Bulls depending on what our roster looks like. I'm waiting on my fellow Bulls fans' opinion.

Not sure how you got that he might play for another team outta that article, but it seems like typical ESPN writing to stir a bit of controversy. Kobe will not play for another team, he's retiring a laker after next year. He's said it plenty of times. There is a slight chance he plays one more year of the lakers could build a contender this season, but that's a super long shot. This article leaves out some of that fake speculation of him playing for another team. http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2015/5/22/8645785/kobe-bryant-retire-lakers-mitch-kupchak

Sounds to me it's the opposite of what Kobe did. Kobe said he was going to retire and lakers offered him $48 mill not to. Lakers making it known no more max and so Kobe won't be expecting it. I can see Kobe coming back on a big discount.

It's not news imo. Kobe has indicated many times next year will be his last. We knew he would play out his contract. Truly an end of an era but we do have some hope for the future now.

Let him take Manu's role as the backup ballhandler for the Spurs - I can't imagine he'd be any worse. Though the T-Mac experiment in SA didn't really work out...

What I'm saying is if the guy is still capable of playing at a high enough level to help a team contend, he should do it. He has dedicated his life to basketball and is the ultimate competitor.

He could help Atlanta and he can help Memphis.

In before he joins Bron lol. On a serious note, I think he retires as a laker, he is injury riddled last couple of years. he won't get a big contract on any other team, he won 5 chips, made his money, why would he try and chase another one? It won't affect his legacy, its set in stone. I think its time.

Good for the lakers but bad for basketball. There should be 0 hate in this thread.. Like him or hate him we tune in every night when he is on national tv to watch him do amazing things... Top 8-12 player ever and an end of an amazing Era. Nobody has or will ever have his passion or his work ethic... Not James/Jordan and on down the list.

GREATNESS ONE

Once Kobe/ Duncan/ KG/ Pierce retire it's truly an end of an era :(

I wouldn't want him on any other team but The Lakers though and hope he just retire, Will miss the hell outta Kobe because a lot of these younger dudes aren't competitive or has the passion or hunger as Kobe, Duncan, KG & Pierce. Only one I can think of is Westy.

What will Lakers fans do now?

The same thing we do whenever one of our all-time great HOF-worthy NBA players leaves: Polish our umpteen championship trophies, dust that forest of banners we have in the rafters and wait for the next great player(s) to come walking through the door to help us win another 'ship.

Probably for the best.

I grew up with Kobe and always enjoyed watching him play (one of the few guys remaining from the old guard) but he has looked like a shell of himself since 2011+ with the only real exception being his 2013 reg-season.
I can't see him returning to that level and I don't think he is a guy who would be willing to take on a smaller or minute limited role (ala old Duncan).
Shame because if healthy I could see him being valuable in that role for perhaps a few more years.

Anyway I hope he comes back fully healthy and is able at worst to still have a bunch of vintage like performances for us to enjoy on his way out but I just have a hard time seeing it given his struggles over the last 2 years.
For now I can't help seeing him as a guy who is perhaps holding back the rebuilding process in LAL.
Assuming he takes on a ball dominant role and isn't that good in it he might if anything stunt the development of the young talented guys LAL has/will have now.
The fact that Mitch recently said that Kobe still isn't 100% despite all the time he has had off is not a good sign to me and surprised me.

Still I am excited to see how Kobe performs this next year and how the Lakers will do with him + the young talent they will have.
I am sure Laker fans feel the same way. 2014-2015 was not a fun time for them.

I think if he went to a team like OKC, he could play PG, and be better than Rhondo. Let Kobe play the same roll that Ron Harper played on the Bulls during the Bulls second run. He could average 12 asst a game on that team.

Looks like Lakers are giving kobe the Bum's Rush out the door.
In order to rebuild (and no star wants to play with kobe) they cannot do until kobe is gone.
