In fact despite his being 52 years old, 34 percent of NBA fans think Jordan could beat James one-on-one now -- as in the year 2015 -- to just 54 percent who think James would win despite being in the prime of his career.

Honestly Jordan in his prime couldnt beat James 1-1 and that isnt a slight on Jordan... James is bigger/stronger and he would have his way offensively while defensively he is better. His build is why he would have his way... People are morons.

Jordan fanatics speak the language of "if he wanted to" almost as good as Lebron fans. How ironic!

Huh?

Have you watched Kobe outduel Lebron. I mean back him down in the post, turn and shoot over him. I have.

Jordan would torch Lebron.
His build? See Karl Malone.

Defensively, watching what guys like Paul George and Kwahi were able do against Lebron... I shutter to think at what Pippen, Rodman and MJ would have accomplished in stretches.

After clicking through all the links, you cannot see how the question was phrased. So I think 34% of NBA fans misunderstood the question.

One-on-one basketball isn't a deadlift competion.

No ****... Problem is James also has an endless pool of talent and skill like Jordan does as well... So his size plus talent makes him more likely better at one on one basketball. James wouldnt win everytime of course because Jordan can shoot and is a better shooter... It would be close but Id give the edge to James in one on one.

Dude Jordan would get 1 stop and then hit 11 shots in a row. I get the bully argument for LeBron, but I think Jordan is so dominate and streaky that it could end quick. I'm not quite sure, why Jordan superior athleticism and footwork are not being mentioned, Jordan is unguardable 1 on 1.

Lebron in his prime is an insane defender with length... I dont buy him not being able to defend Jordan.

I don't think Jordan ever hit 11 shots in a row in his entire career. What makes you think he could do it against a 6'8 260 lb. freight train who plays elite defense?

Just listen to some of the idiots on this board. "Jordan would just get one stop and score 11 shots in a row." This is why many fans are never going to get over the hump about Jordan and how overrated he is. He is undoubtedly the greatest ever but some of you act as if he could really fly in the air or something. Love how one user mentioned that MJ was crazy athletic but fails to see that James is probably the definition of that. Footwork? Can you please tell me how MJ stops LeBron without handchecking? No matter how good you are on the offensive end, you don't win if your opponent backs you up. This article put the nail in the coffin. 34% of the people think 52 year old MJ could beat LeBron today? Now you know why the majority of Americans are broke.

What? Absolutely not. Jordan is FAR more skilled than LeBron.

Hell, prime Kobe would beat LeBron one-on-one. LBJ is a good team player but he doesn't excel one-on-one like MJ, not even close.

We're at least seeing progress in a sense that people are no longer comparing LeBron James to Kobe Bryant, seeing as how James and Michael Jordan are a slight step above Bryant.
But your comment on the majority of Americans being broke, justifying it with a random survey of 1,471 sports fans, is totally nonsensical. America faces such huge income inequality because of laissez faire capitalism and a lack of political involvement. If the middle and lower classes of America were really interested in bettering their fortunes, they'd be democratic socialists. Luckily, Bernie Sanders is giving the proletariat that chance.

I'd struggle on that. Lebron would have a huge size advantage but his post moves where he'd exploit that still aren't the best. He is an extremely good Iso player but so much of what makes him great is his seeing the entire court, passing skills, running pick and rolls, and such. Same with his defense, where it's passing lanes, coming over to help, coming off his man to make a block moreso than just locking down one guy all game long. Jordan seems more of that better 1x1 type guy. Get him Iso'd with the triangle and let him go. Not a knock at all on Lebron, but just how his game works.

Actually, it's a fact that the majority of Americans are broke. It may not correlate at all with these 34% but that tells you that 500/1471 are completely ********.

KD would beat Jordan.. People need to stfu, seriously. It's not hard to play 1v1 if you have a certain skillset. Melo would probably beat Jordan too because of his size. Kobe vs Jordan are matchups that are even just like Melo vs James or KD vs Bird. Melo would beat James in a 1v1, wtf is your point?

I was going to even think of saying I think Melo would take Lebron 1x1 even though it is probably a controversial thing to say, has nothing to do with who is better, just I like Melo's ability in that scenario. Lebron's biggest asset would be his defense in that matchup which might be enough. KD vs. Jordan... oh that would be fun... It's friggin hard to bet against prime Jordan in a 1x1 matchup though, he could kill you in so many ways, it really wouldn't surprise me if a prime MJ, size or not, just destroyed a Melo, KD, or Lebron.

Lebron would get smoked by jordan 1v1 i find it hilarious that people think this guy could beat jordan by himself. When he cant even win a finals against prehistoric cavemen with all the help in the world bron needed. Jordan NEVER LOST in the finals mark of a true champion. And if you believe lebron would beat jordan in anything. From 5v5, to 1v1, to air hockey, and paper football. Your probably a pimple faced 14 year old who gets all his info on basketball and jordan from the only source of knowledge you know your iphone, while wearing your fresh new pair of overpriced waste of money mommy bought lebrons. I cant think of 1 thing lebron is better at than jordan other than being a choke artist.

A comparison of their two best seasons in terms of advanced statistics

LeBron leads him in WS/minute, PER, has the same offensive rating and better defensive rating, etc

You act like the gap between the LeBron and MJ is so big... and yet it might not even exist

I think exclusively NBA fans as a whole are probably the least intelligent of all the major sports fans. But I highly doubt the people who voted for today's Jordan to win actually believe he would. Prime v prime, of course Jordan would win. But this poll obviously had some unreliable answers or maybe the question was presented misleading to some.

If Lebron goes in with the right game plan, I think he beats MJ. If he goes out there trying to be pretty like Mike, he will loose. If he uses his size and speed to his advantage, Mike cannot guard him one on one. Lebron in his prime can stay in front of anyone and effect anyones shot. He would make it very hard for Mike.

So let me get this straight... Michael Jordan can stop a 265 lb man 6"8 from driving to the lane because he has a killer instinct. Is that what we're calling it these days? I don't wanna hear about your stupid voodoo mental ******** crap. Anybody can trash talk but some guys just don't because they don't have that personality. Is KG better than Duncan? No, so let's stop with that mental psychiatric pissing match. James has been on the spotlight for half his life. You HAVE to be tough mentally to survive that long. He's the most scrutinized athlete in NBA history. The day he was drafted, they even said he will be. Like I said before, Melo would probably be a top ten NBA player in terms of 1v1 and can certainly beat LeBron just because he can contain LeBron's size and can also shoot. MJ is not making all his jumpshots (contrary to what you guys see on YouTube highlights) and there is zero % chance he can stop James from attacking the rim other than by fouling him in some fashion.

And for the basketball part, you guys do know size and strength only matter so much right? It's about footwork and positioning, not bullying (when officiated correctly). If a 12 year old beats me to my spot, I might be able to light his ***** up on the way to the basket, but well that wouldn't be a "basketball move" or remotely legal. Somehow that often gets lost in these discussions... A defender has claim to their spot if they get there first and the offensive player can't simply dislodge them from it or physically obstruct them (with a flailing limb) from getting to that spot. Well that's usually the rule...
