You could make the case that CP3 and Curry are better PGs than Westbrook, however, IMO Westbrook is the better player out of the three.

Hurting his team?

I'm an analytical guy too, but that's such a dumb comment. 49/16/10 that's not hurting you're team.

A PER of nearly 30 after tonight. There's no way you can argue that the Thunder are better without Westbrook.

Efficiency is his only issue. With how dominant he's been, it has little to no impact on his overall performance

I'm sorry but you're just hating.

I watched the whole game.

TS% doesn't matter when you attack the paint and pressure the defense like Westbrook does.

It's something that stats can't account for.

The whole Sixer's defense was worried about Westbrook every time he ran down the court.

He attacks the rim with reckless abandon and if the defense collapses he kicks it out.

I liken it to the way Iverson impacted a game. He wasn't an efficient scorer but he got the the line at will because he never settled for outside shots. Both he and Westbrook always look to go hard at the rim and Westbrook's better at it because he's a better athlete than A.I ever was.

Nothing but props towards the guy, he's an animal.

is that you, Morey?

Morey? Morey doesn't rely solely on TS%, even on something as straight forward as offensive efficiency, he would look at points per possession more than anything.

Westbrooks offensive rating is 114 during the last 17 games, 111 on the year. These are both efficient numbers that are even more impressive given his insane load.

I think atfer the last 4 years of people doing nothing but riding him and blaming him for OKC not winning rings yet Westbrook is finally getting the respect he deserved all along over the past 3 or 4 years for me if i was to build a dream starting 5 It would be like Westbrook Curry Korver (or any sharpshooting 3 really) Love Drummond (or whatever i feel the best upcoming defenseive center is.
Westbrook for me is the number 1 point now and Curry should be a 2 imo and he would easily be the number 1 2.

Obviously Westbrook now, but that's the wrong question to ask. The better question is how much further Rose would be now had he stayed healthy. They had very similar development curves their first 4 years.

FraziersKnicks
03-05-2015, 07:43 AM
The guy is on an absolute tear, but there's no way he's winning MVP. His numbers are good but no better than Curry and Harden's. Then you factor in that he's missed about 15 games and he's teams record is nowhere near the Warriors and Rockets. It's just not happening.

Incredible stretch by Westy and he's an amazing player. I still really don't like the guy but he's balling on the court.

FraziersKnicks
03-05-2015, 07:46 AM
I think an interesting question that Westbrook's play brings up is now he's shown he can absolutely dominate as the #1 option on a team, how does that affect the dynamic with a healthy KD?

Everyone knows KD is the better player but will Westbrook go back to playing 2nd fiddle? He doesn't seem like the most mentally stable person when he's on the court going absolutely bonkers after he makes a 3 or a layup/dunk. Will he be willing to hand the reins of the team back over to KD or will he want his own team sooner rather than later?

Obviously a good problem for the Thunder to have, but if he's taking shots away from a healthy KD, that's not a good thing.

He's been on a tear.

But there's no way he's an MVP candidate. Not unless the season started in February? Sorry. But 6 weeks of being a boss isn't what makes you MVP. Especially when your team is still fighting to secure a post season spot.

Also who was the last mvp that took 38 shots to get 39 points? Smh. Some of these triple doubles have been disgustingly inefficient.

He has been on a tear for the last month or so though, props to him. That ASG MVP really boosted his confidence.

That performance against the Suns was abysmal. They win that game easily if he doesn't shoot that bad. I don't see how he can win the MVP if guys like Curry and Harden have been putting up good numbers consistently all season. Curry>Harden>James>Westbrook is what the MVP race looks like IMO. And I am really not trying to discredit and nitpick at this but they lost 2 of the 4 when Russ had a trip dub.

chi-townlove1

I guess I see it like this now

1) curry

For what he is being asked to do, he is playing at an incredible level. For sure an MVP candidate. Though, his teams record won't allow it, but considering he is carrying a team because it's best player is out.

Westbrook would have to keep dropping triple doubles for the rest of the season to win MVP. Players with his playing style are the anti-mvp as far as the media is concerned.

This is all because of the Kanter acquisition. He's forcing Westbrook to pass into elite post scoring. Hence the assists.

What? Westbrook definitely passed the ball before they got kanter (like 8apg). The biggest reason for his recent triple doubles is:

1. He is playing awesome
2. Durant is out so westy has to take on a huge usage (also lost reggie).

Kanter has played well and is a nice addition but he is not the main reason for westys play. Maybe you were kidding though?

It's cool and all, but his team was 2-2 and the teams they beat had a 36-82 record - including an OT victory against probably the worst team of the last 5 years. All while his own team is trying to hold down its playoff spot, with one of the losses coming to the team just behind them in the standings.

Nobody cares how many triple doubles Jordan had in the late 80s regular season. They care about what he did when NBA basketball matters. We'll see what Westbrook can do, if his team even makes it.

Add another Triple double last night. I know he still takes bad shots very often. But what I saw last night was impressive. He had six assists in the first quarter alone and was very involved in getting his teammate easy shots. If he could clean up his turnovers (almost had a quadruple double because of TOs), and just slightly better shot selection, he could be in the conversation for top 5 players at the end of the year (assuming he can keep this up for the rest of the season). Some of those turnovers were just because of ridiculous speed in transition where he ended up just fumbling the ball because he couldn't keep up with himself.

Since he started his triple double run, OKC are 4-4 with Westbrook playing.

So they're playing .500 ball.

The wins were against Minnesota, Toronto, Philadelphia and Indiana.

The losses were against LAC, Chicago, Portland and Phoenix.

Russ is an MVP candidate when they're playing mostly trash teams. OKC lose when he's chucking up shots, turning the ball over and playing like a stat stuffing machine against GOOD teams.

His +/- numbers say it all. In his last 7 games before Minny he's been, -22, +5, -8, -12, -12, +2, +1.

In his last 8 he's averaging;

34 PPG,
41% from the field,
31% from deep,
87% from the line,
10.6 APG,
6.3 TO,
11 RPG,

Russ has been an MVP (of sorts) for about 11 games (where they've gone 8-4). Harden and Steph have been proper MVP's for the entire season

I'm just saying
