Randomly googled it, found this video by ESPN's Bill Simmons detailing the domino effect of the vetoed trade. Here are the talking points, since the video player is known to have issues.

Lakers acquire Chris Paul, Rockets acquire Pau Gasol, New Orleans gets Goran Dragic, Luis Scola and others. OKC doesn't trade James Harden to HOU because HOU now lacks assets, so maybe OKC wins a championship with Harden, KD & Westbrook. Do they find a way to make the salaries work? Dynasty instead of Miami? How about the Spurs? No Harden in HOU likely means Dwight Howard doesn't join the team, especially with Gasol there. Does he join the Nets? Mavericks? Do Lakers even trade for Dwight? Alternatively, maybe Harden for Gasol in a trade?

With CP3, LA doesn't need Steve Nash, who is carrying Phoenix without Dragic, so does Toronto nab him and let Kyle Lowry walk? No D'Antoni for LA, so does Phil return?

New Orleans likely doesn't get the #1 pick unless they somehow unload all the new players, so no Anthony Davis--is he leading Hornets or Wizards instead? How about Boston? Does Doc Rivers stick around since it's just the Blake Griffin show for the Clippers? KG and Pierce still Celtics? Or do Clippers actually deal for Pierce, KG & Doc?

What do you think? How would the original trade have affected your team or the NBA landscape/championship?

Lakers become the free agent destination for the vets to become solid roleplayers.

Bynum's injury situation probably plays out the same way, or maybe he takes better care of himself and lasts another season or so. His situation makes the window short for success with Bynum.

The Chris Paul trade also lowered the payroll for the Lakers as well, so that means it was a positive financial trade as well as positive from a talent standpoint.

Kobe wouldn't be in the discussion with Duncan or Jordan. Kwame Brown would've been a Laker for life from that point on lol.

I think the Thunder would have been able to keep Harden salary-wise, but whether they would have won in 2013/dynasty/Spurs don't get to the Finals would have depended on Harden's play. The Lakers still would have traded for Dwight because they would have lacked frontcourt depth even though in insight they wouldn't do that now. I don't think the Raptors let Lowry walk because at that time they were building for the future after Bosh left. If Phil returned to coach that would have bolstered their championship chances, although Dwight was the main problem. If Charlotte had somehow won the draft lottery then Davis would have made them a force in the East. I think Doc Rivers still leaves the Celtics because the rebuild was about the players not him, but maybe he does not go to the Clippers. Garnett still goes to the Nets and Pierce to the Wizards. So, maybe the Lakers are not as bad as they are now (definitely are still the team in Los Angeles), attractive to other free agents and players wanting trades?

Here's the better question...

What if Kobe was traded when he demanded the hell out of LAL in 2006?

well since they traded gasol for him not bynum, the could have had CP3, Dwight and Howard. That would be an interesting team for sure.

You know how many ifs you could do on each team?

If Toronto had a competent GM when trading Vince Carter, if T Mac stayed with Vince.

have to agree ... why revisit this, oh yeah ... the Lakers aren't winning
I'm sorry, if Steve Nash was healthy --- how about if Phil Jackson was hired again as coach --- what if Kobe learned how to pass more -- would Dwight Howard still be a Laker --- certain things that are in the Lakers control.

A couple of seasons ago, Nash, Howard, Gasol, Metta and Kobe ... if they were healthy, Phil Jackson as coach, etc ...

Same thing -- start a thread about how Portland would be if they selected Durant instead of Oden, would Lillard be part of the team?

Chris Paul is a great PG & scorer. How could he function when kobe would not share ball or let the better player run the team. Chris Paul stats would go down because of this & he would become the latest scapegoat.
