I truly believe this is one of those questions that defines your NBA fandom mindset.

Lets say Vlade Divac gets enshrined into the HOF, what jersey is he wearing ?

I will have to say Lakers. If I remeber right his most successful teams were the Kings but I was born in 82 so I just remember as a young kid watching Vlade play for us. I was shocked that he played more seasons in LA than Sac when I looked. I would have guessed the kings were his longst tenure!

He made it to the Finals with the Lakers tho

I don't remember him a Laker, I missed it. I remember him in a Hornets uni and with the Kings. I'd lean Kings because of what they accomplished over there. not sure which team deserves to claim him though.

Lakers/Kings are pretty equal for me when I think about Vlade. Probably more so Lakers because he came over when I was just starting to watch a ton of NBA, and he was one of the more recognizable characters in the league.

If he goes into the hall he has to wear Yugoslavia because he certainly didn't have a HOF career in the NBA.

But this poll is more of a "How old is the average person voting in the poll" question. Because I'm guessing WHEN you started paying attention to basketball has more to do with your answer than anything else.

But seriously I go with Lakers. Im an LA guy and I am old enough to remember him playing with Magic in the Finals. And then the Laker teams that were pretty decent with him, Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Cedric Ceballos, etc.

When I see Vlade, I see him hitting that big shot in the finals and having that shocked looked on his face and hugging Magic Johnson. People though the Lakers were done as contenders when Kareem retired.... and Vlade was a big reason they got back to the finals. Had Magic kept playing, they very well could have beaten the Bulls the next year (though I still would have put my money on the Bulls if those same teams met up in the finals).

That's when I first saw him play, and I've always seen him as a 'Laker' since, though anybody who picks the Kings has a legit case because he played his best basketball there, and he was the second best player on the team, whereas in LAL he was a role player.

Also... any folks from the former Yugoslavia that want to associate him with his home country obviously have a legit case, but being a North American fan, I haven't watched Euro basketball.

Phantom Dreamer

Los Angeles Lakers. He hit the game winning shot that wasn't in Game 3 of the '91 Finals. He's a Laker.

I remember seeing him on the Lakers but I was really young. The Kings seem like the right team to associate him with though. Those teams they put together in the late 90's early 2000's were amazing.

I do find it funny that people remember his best days coming with the kings but his most productive and most successful (team wise) were with the Lakers.

I don't say that to mock anyone either, for some reason i agree. I just wonder how often that happens with players. It's like many recognized a certain greater influence with sac town that the stats don't capture. I like to think it was playing with Magic that made him appear more productive.

I would certainly think its the Lakers. I can picture Vlade making his famous shot off the board..then looking at the crowd serenading them with kisses. Tell me you guys don't remember that?

I remember him playing with Magic, Worthy, Byron Scott, Elden Campbell, Jones and Van Exel. Fun times even though no title run during that time. He used to go up against the better Centers like Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing and company. He is an all time Laker in my mind. He did have a great Run with Sacramento However and may have played a larger role to some extent.

Did not care for the flopping he developed. Must of been an overseas thing that he brought to the game. Not all the European players brought this along.

Stat wise I'm sure its the Lake show. But he took the art of passing Magic taught him and raised it to a different level for big men in Sacramento. I've never seen a center pass like veteran Vlade, watching him and C Webb pass was a thing of beauty.

I do for 2 reasons:

Adelman putting together the all Euro team, and his battles with Shaq in the western playoffs.

If you ask Vlade, he would tell you that he is both a Laker and a King. He enjoyed far more success with the Kings and they retired his jersey.

I think its a matter of age and when you first became aware of him. I didn't even know Divac was a Laker at one point in 2001 when I was a kid rooting hard against the Kings.

For me it is a toss up between the Lakers and the Kings.

He got further with the Lakers as a team. (Making it to the finals.)
There are some huge memorable moments that will always stick with me of him on the Lakers. (Some have been brought up here already.)

Individually, I feel he was a better player with the Kings. He was more integral to that team's success. Not that he wasn't with the Lakers, he was just more so with the Kings.

A lot of the things, talent-wise, people remember Vlade for, was most noticeable while he was on the Kings.

I am old enough to remember him vividly on the Lakers, but his days with the Kings were more individually impactful.

the controversy taints how fantastic of a serious that was. instead of celebrating it as a great series, we get into fights over free throw distribution, game two, game six, corruption, etc.

He made it to the Finals with the Lakers tho

This, and the reason I say Lakers. Also, his best seasons statistically were with the Lakers. However, if he makes the HOF, it's definitely for international play, so I don't know how that works, jersey-wise.
