That would be stupid

Trade him to the Lakers. It would at least be entertaining to watch him, Young, and Kobe on the floor together. I feel bad for the other two guys in that scenario.

OKC can't re-sign Jackson this offseason. Someone will sign him to an offer sheet of $8-10 mil/year at least and OKC can't do that under the luxury tax. They trade him now and at least get someone with potential. Maybe he figures it out there but I doubt it because he just doesn't seem to get it.

Knicks are not gonna trade Dalembert their gonna waive him, they are trading JR Smith and Shumpert for non-roster players and 2nd round pick or picks, not Reggie Jackson.

Cavs giving up Waiters only player of significance, sounds like they will be getting JR Smith and Shumpert maybe a low end big some another team.

Thunder will not be giving up Jackson to anyone but will somehow be getting Waiters im not sure what they are giving up besides Lance Thomas so far.

When this trade is finalised, the Knicks have $34.1m committed for next season.

With the projected cap set at $66.5m for next season, we'll have $32.4m available and a top 3 pick.

This also free's up playing time for Tim Hardaway Jr., Cleanthony Early, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Cole Aldrich and allows us to tank even harder.

As part of the discussions, Dion Waiters would go to the Thunder, J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert would go to the Cavs and several players with nonguaranteed contracts would go to the Knicks including Lance Thomas from the Thunder, sources said.

The Cavs pulled Lou Amundson and Alex Kirk, both of whom have nonguaranteed deals, out of their game with the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night. Smith was pulled from the Knicks game in Memphis as well.

FraziersKnicks

It's a win/win/win for all 3 teams really.

I'm probably biased but I think the Knicks come out the best in this deal. Shedding JR's contract saves us nearly $7m in cap room for the summer and we get a first and second rounder. It also allows us to play our young guys more and go full steam with the tank.

The Thunder get a scorer off the bench with a habit for bad shots.

JR for Dion is a lateral move for the Cavs. Maybe LeBron can help JR. The Cavs getting Shump in the deal is nice for them. He won't have to worry about scoring at all and improves their wing defense, whilst giving them some needed depth.

If the Cavs get Dalembert I don't think they should waive him. He gives them some rim protection and could probably start for them.

I would say the Thunder came out the worst but they only gave up a bunch of D-Leaguers and a first rounder.

I had previously said that...

If we can make

Iman Shumpert = Bargnani - Amare - Dalembert - Prigioni - Jason Smith

And to an extent the players that are here beyond the year:

JR Smith = Jose Calderon

If we could make these players into at least TWO of the following:
-1st rounder
-2nd round picks
-Lose JR Smith
-Lose Calderon
-Get a young promising player

If the Knicks could do TWO of those things using the players mentioned above, then Phil did a good job.

Seems we'll lose JR Smith and get a 1st rounder (future pick, though..). That's already two of the 5 things I mentioned. And we still got Amare, who I feel can net us something if he plays well and injury free

We basically just took the $6M owed to JR next year and put it towards a new player in the summer. We won't really see the full value of this trade until the summer but the fact we managed to get a 1st rounder in the deal is incredible.

JR had absolutely no future on this Knicks team and Shump just isn't ever gonna become the player we all hoped he would.

Not always. IIRC when we acquired Lowry from Houston, the pick was protected where Houston wouldn't get anything less than a lottery pick. There was a top pick protection, but it wasn't too strong (E.g I think after the first year, there was only protection on 1st overall, then unprotected in the 2nd or 3rd year).

Let me ask you something, last time we had cap space we got an all star talent that was mvp consideration for the first part of the season, his body let him down and now his contract seems horrible but nonetheless we had a winning team with a below average front office, gotta give it sometime to build a future. Sad and true. Think about the big name players out there. Really doubt Gasol, LMA, Love, etc. leave. Maybe Rondo? But I think Dallas does well and he stays.

I'm a Melo fan, but he's turning 31 and he's going to be on the decline (as is LBJ and other great players). That's a tough sell to guys like Rondo, Gasol, LMA, Love etc. who are already on winning teams.

Then who does he give it too. Gasol? Him Anthony and mudiay equal a bad team. Get over yourselves. New York sucks

There is a lot of guys. It doesn't have to be a max star player. Havent we learn that a team can win as well?

We don't have any starters on this team and adding starters that fit Phil's vision is more important then adding the big names. **** the big names just give me guys that will give their all every game. We already have a diva in Melo. Can't have the whole team be full of it. Plus a top 5 pick will help even more

We enough young players to develop that we can keep or even trade for another impact players

I like what we are doing and glad the k inks are trying but you act like this makes you contenders. You have no shot. Show me a realistic draft and free agent lineup. It still sucks. I'm high on MCW, Noel, Embiid, saric, KJ, jerami grant, wroten, 2 first rounders. Over anything the knicks have. If you wanna talk reply if you wanna say but we are new York!!! Nope never said anything near that. This is what that trade does...

@stevekylerNBA: That gives the Knicks $32.41 million in cap commits against what should be a $66.3 million 2015 cap - or roughly $33m to spend

With a top 10 (I say top 5) but top 10 for the most part player ... Top draft pick, 8mill+ trade exception, and some youth that can be majorly developed throughout the year with no road blocks and all that is already confirmed we could still send it stat for a pick to a contender but that's an if. We have building blocks and a plan for the future and are on the right path.

See this is delusion. Melo is nowhere near top ten let alone five. This is the **** I'm arguing. Not that the trade was bad. I think it was great for everyone but the thunder. You have an overrated superstar see and I'm saying it Iverson. You have a great pick. Agreed get a stud. You have some cap to spend hopefully on some decent t players. Cap space for what though? I don't see studs wanting to run to New York. So New York will blow it on some mid level talents instead of waiting for the right fit and start their crap cycle over again

Bahaha, the Cavs are so desperate. So they trade for an oft injured guard (who has a dislocated shoulder) and a chucker with one of his worst seasons in his career? This is so great. If only Danny Ferry was around and made that move w/ the Cavs? So the Cavs are trying to turn the Quicken Loans Arena into a subway station because they are going to install a third turnstile?

wouldve liked the trade if we couldve gotten a first rounder unless im mistaken i believe we get a 2nd rounder? Last year at the deadline we had an offer of a 1st round pick from thunder for iman. Now this year we give him away to basically rid j.r along with a 2nd round pick. I dont really see this as an awesome trade, but we're tanking so as long as we dont get better its all good for me. Ridding ourselves of j.r is a plus no matter what angle you look at it

Cavs won the trade IMO. They got a late 1st and shumpert (really needed a defensive wing) while just replacing waiters with smith (basically a wash).

Until they prove otherwise the Raps are in the 2nd tier in the East along with Washington, and Cleveland, their defense needs to improve greatly. Atlanta and Chicago are currently the best in the East. This could all change, just stating as things are now.

Provided the Knicks select the right player, that high draTft pick is pretty much like getting an extremely young player with upside for dirt cheap on a long term deal. The draft pick is worth more than anyone the Knicks could realistically sign with their cap space.
