I figured their bench coach (Martinez) would get the job. Guess not

Kind of glad he didn't. I bet he takes over the bench coach job in Chicago.

He was playing baseball until this year and would skip all the "coaching ranks" right to manager. I find that moderately funny hence the "lol"....

Maybe Ibanez was the clubhouse presence everyone said. Too bad the team still sucked, including the kids he was supposed to mentor.

Seems like catchers tend to make the best coaches. Can't wait until David Ross takes over for Farrell some day. Surprised Jason Varitek never got into coaching either.

And really when you think about it, a lot of the former players turned coaches weren't that great either. Eric Wedge for example played like 3 seasons in the bigs. Lloyd McClendon played like 7 years but he wasn't any good. Obviously those are just the two that come to my mind first, but there are plenty more.

Yeah, because you HAVE to be a former great player to be a good manager.

Please enlighten me and show me where I said you had to be a good player to be a good manager.

Wakamatsu got a raw deal with the Mariners. I'm surprised a team hasn't given him a second chance by now.
