Jason Terry is a low key pick up that is going to do wonders in Houston....

He's really surprised me. I thought he was done after last year but he seems healthy and has been a plus 3 point shooter without being a liability anywhere else. Pair that with his veteran leadership and he's been solid. Just hope this doesn't limit us giving Troy Daniels a look at what he can do in extended minutes.

I didn't think they'd slip, but I also didn't think they'd be that much better from last season.

They are playing at a very high level right now. Rockets are ranked 6th in both offensive and defensive efficiency so far. After this game they'll move up.

I've been very impressed with the way they're playing. Looking like a contender in the West so far.

Cavs's front court defense needs A LOT of work. Kevin Love is such a liability on that end and you can't play Varejao 48 min a game.

Indeed.

That and I find Lebron and Kyrie together to be a little...off. Lebron works very well with Love I think (well anyone would work well with Love on offense but still) but Kyrie doesn't look as good out there. Both a very big ball handlers. Which I think might be the problem.

They are inferior. I have watched everything. Rox have been sloppy and up 2 at half with your team having 5 3s from players that weren't in the league last year. I'm whining? Big deal. Game thread. I'm a homer? cool.

Bosh didn't even play like the last 8min of the 2nd quarter for some reason (and Houston is only up by 2).

smh

It's not about early in the season it's that your team isn't as good as it once was. Wade isn't the same. Bosh is playing well so far. Your role players are young now. This isn't the same HEAT team. No diss to them. They're playing well but Rox have two top 15 NBA players and a system in place to have our role players thrive.

I won't gloat about one win. I didn't catch second half because I had my own game to go to but we won by 17.

Umm... Say what you will about those teams, but those squads have put up a ton of points against the rest of their opponents. Miami, Boston and Utah were 2nd, 3rd and 9th in scoring in the league going into tonight's games. Hell, even the Lakers are 15th, and not a single one of those teams averages less than 100 points per game. But the Rockets has held every one of them to 93 points or fewer.

They're 4th in opponents points per game, 4th in DRtg, 6th in opponents FG%, 3rd in adjusted FG% and 4th in points per shot. Based on any barometer you can possibly use to judge defense, the Rockets have been a top defense so far this season. I see no reason whatsoever why that trend can't continue.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I believe they are. And saying something so matter-of-factly after five games seems pretty bold. They were an average defensive team last season and just added Trevor Ariza and Kostas Papanikolaou, who have both been huge for them on that end of the floor. Plus, Harden is playing far, far better defense than he played a year ago.

I watched this team pretty much all preseason long, and they are seriously dedicated to playing team defense. I don't think the Rockets will just be a top 10 defense by year's end. I think they'll be a top 5 defense.

Howard anchored a top 5 D for consecutive years with Jameer Nelson, Hedo Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis all in the starting lineup. He is probably one of 2 or 3 guys capable of anchoring a top 5 defense no matter who is scattered around him if he is in the right system and he is healthy and on top of his game. I can't stand the Rockets but its not out of the realm of possibility for them to finish top 10 on D. I wouldn't be surprised to see Dwight get a couple more DPOY and it would require anchoring a top 10 D for him to do that.

Exactly. And he's got two guys in Beverley and Ariza who are arguably top 5 defenders at their own respective positions. As long as Harden and Jones keep playing competent defense, there's no reason to believe the Rockets can't be a top 5-10 defensive unit.

my god....Kobe is absolutely awful...is this what GMs feared when Iverson left Denver??

also Dion Waiters stats from last night

"That would be a final statistical line of 11 shots, five passes and three turnovers in the game for Waiters. He also failed to grab a rebound, and recorded four personal fouls. There's playing a disciplined game focused on team principles, and then there's what Waiters did."

i agree, good game from him and it's good to see him back to his old form so far this season. in all fairness he was going up against justin hamilton for a good part of the game though with birdman and haslem out. hamilton played almost 31 minutes and it was just his 11th career nba game.

They are inferior. I have watched everything. Rox have been sloppy and up 2 at half with your team having 5 3s from players that weren't in the league last year. I'm whining? Big deal. Game thread. I'm a homer? cool.

i disagree, i think they're pretty even actually.
