PSD generally gives no credence to this subject. Are we wrong or are these reporters just trying to fill space by stating this scenario that seems impossible?

Nobody's gonna take that contract

Even if his contract were better, Knicks would have no use for Kobe. His defense is abysmal and they have enough guys jacking up shots already.

First: These guys are morons. LAL is NOT trading Kobe. Besides, he has a no-trade clause.

The titles they use are so passive "it is conceivable that teams could be interested? That's not news, it a hypothesis. It's conjecture. You could say the same thing about any team.

That said, of course teams would be interested. Teams that suck WOULD take him, or even borderline playoff teams. Why? Because he is a CASH COW. If the Nets or Knicks picked him up, can you imagine how many jerseys he'd sell? He'd be the #1 selling jersey easy. Same goes for Chicago... likely even Dallas. And if a team could dump a big contract like Joe Johnson, or Amare.... why not.

That said, the Lakers know that he puts @$$e$ in seats, and they are not going to trade him. The Lakers are awful right now... the only reason anybody goes to the games is to watch Kobe.

Trade not happening unless Kobe asks for one.

I assumed it was common knowledge that many NBA "journalists" deliberately try to start rumors with little or even fabricated "sources". Then if it happens, it seems like they are geniuses with an inside track.

players like Kobe should never play for another team. He has more importance to the Laker franchise than just being a movable piece during a wasted season. He is as iconic to the Lakers as Jeter was to the Yankees.

I still say IF Kobe gets traded he'd go to Oklahoma City.

Lakers get: Perkins (expiring), Collison (expiring), Jones, Roberson, and picks

Thunder get: Bryant, Millsap

Hawks get: Ibaka

Westbrook
Bryant
Durant
Millsap
Adams

First, it would benefit the Lakers to trade Kobe Bryant. No one wants to play with him, he still views himself as a player that can carry teams, he can't. He will be a complete malcontent all year, they won't be competitive until he leaves and they actually rebuild, which by the way they lose their pick this year unless they are a top 5 pick. Bad coach, aging superstar who isn't good any more and a chance to cut salary asap, would allow the process to accelerate.

Second, the Lakers won't because the only people more delusionial about Kobe's talent than Kobe, are the Busses. Jim Buss would almost rather suck at Kobe's expense than win, and Jeanie is still trying to hold the Laker "family" together. They will be mired in mediocrity this year, win just enough games to lose their pick, while the future of their franchise rehabs his injury while he waits to inherit the sloppy seconds of Kobe's destroyed franchise. They can hope and pray Durant goes to DC and Westbrook decides to jump ship and come to LA, but my guess is by that point, he'd rather take over in Clipper land and play SG mext to CP3.

Even if Kobe agrees on being traded. Doubt Lakers trade him without a young asset coming back as a sweetener. Kobe to Knicks seems very easy and STAT and Hardaway and Shumpert coming back.

Why would the Thunder get the Hawks involved and do a Millsap for Ibaka swap? Makes no sense for the Thunder.

To make the salaries work. Kobe's contract is huge so Ibaka moved for Millsap actually allows the salaries to work in my trade.

Plus Millsap's contract is expiring so the Hawks could have a couple years of Ibka for Millsap's expiring deal.

I think the Thunder would probably rather throw in Reggie Jackson to make the salaries match than give up Ibaka since they probably won't be able to keep Jackson anyway.

The Lakers aren't going to win without Kobe right now either. They recognize they might as well get the money from having him on the team while rebuilding at the same time. It is actually quite smart.

The Busses aren't super wealthy like most other NBA owners where their franchise is more like a toy. They are wealthy because of the franchise. With this in mind anytime you only look at the Lakers moves it is important to keep that in mind. Right now they are in the perfect position. They have a chance to rebuild while making money off the fact that Kobe is chasing records in the twilight of his career. Look at the whole picture.

He would if he wanted. Guy enjoys being a Laker for life.
