Dirk Nowitzki took a massive paycut on the deal he signed with the Dallas Mavericks this summer. Despite the 36 year-old holding max-level offers from the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and undoubtedly many more, Dirk signed on Mark Cubanís dotted line for a paltry $25 million over three seasons so Dallas could ink Chandler Parsons to a contract carrying a $15 million salary while maintaining future financial flexibility. Talk about team first.

Now that Parsons has replaced him as the Mavsí highest-paid player, Dirk is making sure his teamís key free agent signee remembers from where all of that cash came:

Dirk on Parsons: "I told him every dinner on the road this year is on him, because it's my money anyway." FIRE

According to Forbes, Dirk sacrificed more money than any player in league history by electing to forgo a maximum deal for one worth pennies on the dollar.

yeah, because Dirks only getting paid $7.9 million dollar this season, wink-wink.

Dirk should intentionally get fined by the league and call parsons up and make him pay it.

I think this was probably just a joke, dirk probably doesn't actually make parsons do this.. Maybe once or twice but not every single road game

It's true, although I'm sure Dirk meant in in a joking way

Dirk getting paid under the table via dinners bought by Parsons? NBA needs to investigate this.

Dirk should be ashamed of himself for saying this in public.... By making Parsons pay for dinners and things on the road he's clearly selfish and a bad leader and a horrible role model to children.

I kid I kid... It was a funny joke by Dirk and also the truth at the same time.

maybe not money under the table but a life time of private jets, Cuban provided perks, and a future as an executive with the mavs if he wants the job.

He'll at least be a "consultant" as long as Cuban owns the team. A few million a year for doing nothing but the occasional recruiting job. More power to him, though. Always liked the Stout Kraut.

Honest, funny, and selfless. Common from Dirk's "dinosaur" generation as someone put it.

I don't see any of the post-2003 draftee stars with this type of character...
Maybe Durant or Blake Griffin.
There is hope in young players like Kawhi, Drummond and Jabari Parker...

But as of right now there are too many greedy, selfish, dishonest stars in the league.

It'll be funny until Dirk has one of those "holy this this guy's incredible" games where he puts up 40 and the Mavs still lose with Parsons scoring in the single digits. At that point, we'll all look at this thread and realize just how serious Dirk was being.

The context of this quote doesn't really sound good, but I doubt he meant it that way.

It's true. I can't believe Parsons is the highest paid player on that team.

Can you please provide proof of this? Or if you can't do you have a link of someone else proving this?

If not your comment is just another meaningless opinion.

I don't think anyone's mad. Parsons just has the tendency to flash and you think wow future star. Then will disappear for a week.
