Not sure if really thread worthy or not, but I kind of like the idea

great idea. more rest means more teams capable of bringing their "a" game every night.

Allstar game should be played outside

Sounds great. Give the all stars a chance to get a little rest as well. Just hope everyone stays out of trouble on that break.

Yea but it also means more back-to back games and/or the season starting earlier so I don't think the extra few days of rest will really make a difference in the big picture.

Instead of giving teams more back-to-backs, they should just extend the season an extra few days. Maybe start a week earlier.

Yea there is already way too many back to backs. They should either extend the season 2-3 weeks and spread games out more... or cut the games to 70 or 75 tops.

I'd like it. A week to go out with the family and just get away with a real vacation..

And as a fan, honestly I liked the back to backs. I loved the lockout season to be honest. Seemed like almost every night my team was playing. Not great for the players, but as a fan that was pretty sweet.

Season should be shortened. End of.

No doubt the lockout season spoiled us, games every day sometimes ur team had 3 In a row..

That said I'd still be for a shorter season game wise...players would try harder.

I think.

It's a good idea,Silver is a blessing for this league. But he should also extend the regular season if he wants to give players some rest. Two weeks should be ok I think.

It should be 70 games with limited back to backs and a week all star break

If we keep the 82-game regular season, I propose that the season starts in mid October and has NO back to backs (yes, I love them as a fan, but I'd much rather see teams' players well rested and as close to 100% as possible). Under this system, you'd have no more than 3 games during a week (3 games out of 7 days) and no more than 5 games within 10 days.

Then, once each team hits around the 40 game mark (14 weeks into the regular season) we'll be in the middle of January. Around this time, have the week-long all-star break and the trade deadline two weeks after that (with ~36 games left to go on average for each team). If you go by these schedule changes, with averaging 3 games per week and the week-long ASB, the regular season would take 28 weeks to complete.

So, if you start say October 15th the regular season would end April 29th. The playoffs begin shortly after that, and the post-season stays pretty much the same.

They should cut it to 76 games. Keep the b2b games as I like them. It would work like this;

In division 4x = 16
In conference 3x = 30
Out of conference 2x = 30

That would give you time to take a week to 10 days off.

Nah, I don't agree on cutting games or extending it. Because then player and team records would be disrupted, newcomers would have a harder time breaking records or moving up(career points, career assists, etc). But I guess spreading games out wouldn't hurt.

First all of your proposals for 70 game seasons wont happen. Use economics! You know how many millions of dollars of lost revenue that would result in? I'm pretty sure cutting 12 games would result in 100 million dollars lost. Not happening

Remember when everyone said that Silver was bad for business.

then LBJ will be more likely to join the dunk contest. He used to say that due to the tight schedule, he is very exhausted. Also, he couldn't afford to have another award-less season like last season ever again (no all-star MVP nor regular season MVP nor DPOY nor an FMVP ).lol
This shall be a move for him to collect Magic's 1 million. (Is it due now? )lol

it's almost impossible to cut the games. The NBA wants to make money, especially when some small market teams'owners are still complaining losing money, which I highly doubt.

Would be interesting to try ... lets cut some regular season games off first.

They'll make that money up with ad space on jerseys anyway... let's not kid ourselves, it's coming.

Also, if Silver is still planning on having some sort of "cup" during the season he needs to shorten the season first.

I wouldn't mind people competing for the Michael Jordan Cup lol, but there's no way you can have that, keep 82 games and put adverts on the jerseys.

I don't like the cup idea and hope they aren't really thinking of that. The "hey you are good midway through the season" award.

But with that, they would only do it as long as they had the same amount of games on TV and to sell tickets for. There is no way the NBA is going to cut games realistically. Sure, they will get more money from jersey ad space. And more from their new TV deal. But you try telling 450 players that you can give them raises, but instead are cutting their seasons and they can find their own way to make up that difference. You try telling the owners that as their CEO you have a sure fire way to increase their profits, but instead are reducing your footprint on the sports world and just holding even.

I think the vast majority of players would be in favour of shortening the season.

Hmmm, so cut it to 76 games and take a 10% paycut, 68 games and take a 20% cut? They have a very limited time to earn the kind of money they are. I think they'd be all for keeping the season where it is at. Not many players play a full 82 game season, and coaches manage minutes pretty well today. I'd hate to give up 44 million if I was Duncan and lose out on that cash, especially when Pop gives him minutes and time off.
