Say the lakers had let walk this offseason everybody but Nash and Kobe.

Then they decide to surround them two with Recently ( last couple of years) retired former stars.

They spend the whole summer getting into " game shape" or as much as a " game shape" they can get being most of them in their 40s , Jordan 2001 style

Something like this 15 men roster.

Pg: Nash(40) /Kidd(41)/Marbury(37)
Sg: Kobe(36)/Iverson(39)/Brandon Roy(30)
Sf: Grant Hill(42) / T-Mac(35)/Antoine Walker(38)
Pf: Chris Webber(41)/Rasheed Wallace(40)/Abdur Rahim(38)
C: Shaquille(42)/Ben Wallace(40)/Alonzo Mourning(44)

Probably less than they do this season.

Half the team would be running, more like crawling, to the locker room by the end of the first half.

I don't think there's 5 players on there that could play half of the season without getting hurt. How many knee surgeries have the players on that team had combined?

It's a fun question to ponder, but they'd be horrible. If you could stay in respectable NBA game shape into your 40's, there would be a lot more guys doing it. You wouldn't have to retire. If you could simply work your way back into NBA game shape in one summer when your in your 40's, there'd be a lot more guys doing that too.

Think about how good all of these players were in their last year in the NBA. That would be the absolute ceiling for all of these guys. And they'd be much worse than that now.

They wouldn't be able to play defense or run the floor at a passable pace. They wouldn't last a quarter of a season before breaking down, or a single game without being completely gassed.

I honestly think even a sorry *** team like my Sixers would wipe the floor with them. We would just out run them for 48 minutes, dominate the fast break and press them on defense the whole time.

Think of this

82 games x 48 minutes x 5 players in the court = 19680 minutes

you divide those 19680 minutes into 15 players = 1312 minutes per player

1312 divided by 82 games = 16 minutes per game for each player

so, the fittest would play like 22 mpg and the oldest like 8 mpg, and take on account they could rest every other game using the 3 injury list spots so they dont really have to play 82 games, more like 50 games each.

how bout that? minute managing could manage miracles?

Do you think a state championship basketball team could win a game in the NBA? I don't at all. And the team of old dudes would be a little better than that. Thats not going to beat a pro team.
