Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki have company.

Though other players can veto trades based on external conditions e.g., accepting a qualifying offer only those four had no-trade clauses specifically negotiated into their contracts.

Carmelo Anthony will join them.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News:

Carmelo Anthony has more power than you think. According to a league source, his new deal includes a no-trade clause, Daily News has learned
8:03 PM - 15 Jul 2014

Remember this theory relayed by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports?

Within Anthony's circle, belief's been this, sources tell Y: Get NY's $129M now, figure out destination later. You can always get a trade.

That idea is much more interesting now. If Melo ever wants a trade, he can essentially dictate his destination. Its not quite as good as free agency, but its closer than ever. As the salary cap increases and contracts shorten, more teams will be positioned to trade for Melo if he requests.

The Knicks, by giving Melo this no-trade clause, lose a lot of leverage if he ever hits the trade block. Phil Jackson certainly hopes it never comes to that. http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/15/report-carmelo-anthony-has-no-trade-clause-in-new-knicks-contract/

Seems like LeBron and Melo talked about how they can rule their franchises, and then went about it opposite ways lol. Hey, at least Melo's deal is stagnant and won't constantly being maxed out as the salary cap grows. Looking forward to LeBron's $35M salary in 2016-17 after that new TV deal.

I don't like it, not just because it is the Knicks and him but I mean in general.

The one thing about it is, he can't really FORCE a trade. He's locked into a contract for 4 years. So unless he sits out he can't make the team trade him if they don't want to. He can demand one, but the team doesn't have to do it.

That said, way to much control for one person

damm have they softened the requirements to get one in the new cba?
In the old one you have to had played for that team for longer tan he has in the knicks to be eligible for the no trade clause.

Not for nothing but last season was the first season not making the playoffs? So how is he losing?

But you're right I wished he went to LA

Some of you guys sound a little silly. You act like because he has a no trade clause he can get traded whenever he wants. It was smart of him to get a no trade clause. It protects him from the Knicks shipping him off if they get tired of him, not the other way around. Its not like after year 2, he can just say "ship me here", he's still under contract. More players should get no trade clauses to be honest. You think Klay Thompson wouldnt LOVE( see what I did there) to have a no trade clause right now. Nothing to see here

Yup, I think it was you had to play for the same team for 8 yrs. I liked that requirement.

Yeah, this isn't a big deal. The only GM who would sign somebody and care about a no trade clause is Daryl Morey.
