I honestly think if this is more than 11 mil a season, the Jazz should just let him walk..he isnt that good to command a salary anywhere near the max....that is coming from someone who is a fan of Hayward..I just dont see it as a good idea for the Jazz

This is a horrid idea and will be an albatross. He's worth like $7 million a year, not $13 or $14.

This is sad... He can't live up to that contract.. Unless he becomes a 23, 5, 5 player, which I don't see happening..

On either team he's good for 16, 6 and 5... with average defense... that's not 15 mil per year. The guy will NEVER make an all star team, guys like that shouldn't make more than 8-12 per year... he's worth about 40 mil over the same years... Utah will kill their future matching this... better get a 3rd to team to sign and trade for another body

Way too much money for Hayward. I see him as a role player and he's getting paid like a legit number 1 or 2 option. This CBA has screwed up pay rates big time. I can't wait for the next lockout just to fix all the negatives that this CBA introduced

I was saying generally these teams have to overpay, it's an overpay but we already knew this might happen with Hayward. I don't see why Parsons can't get the same amount both are very similar. The new CBA is flawed for sure.

Easily bro, there are tons of teams who have max cap space to spend. As soon as LBJ/Melo/Bosh make decisions, the rest of the free agents will be signed very, very quickly.

I believe if Utah matches Charlotte, the Hornets give a big offer to Lance Stephenson.

Dallas is rumored to be planning to offer Parsons a big deal, presumably the max, which Houston will match.

Phoenix has cap space to accommodate two max contracts. Eric Bledsoe is going to be given the max

Greg Monroe is also going to get a max deal

If Jazz don't match the Hornets have just cemented their place as the Atlanta Hawks of the last 7 years.

I guess that's a major upgrade from cellar dwellers. MJ must have thought "I keep trying to build this team for a championship but its too hard. I might as well just buy the 4th-8th seed in the east for the next 5 years."

Is Hayward worth that contract? No...

Did the Hornets have a choice really if they wanted to obtain Hayward? No...

Could Hayward live up to that contract? Yes... I'm not saying he is or will, but I think it's kind of odd how so many people think it's "impossible" he lives up to that contract. I could see him reasonably being a 20/5/5 guy. I still don't think 15+/year is worth that, but I can't really fault the Jazz or any other team wanting Hayward for that price tag. That doesn't mean I would make that offer if I was a GM (I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT MAKE THAT OFFER PERSONALLY), but I think you guys are overeating way too much here.

I think you meant "Hayward is definitely NOT worth $5 mil more a year than Curry". I happen to agreed. However, that isn't the best point to make/use to articulate how Hayward is getting overpaid. If Curry signed a 4 year deal for 8 million (2 million per year), and your favorite team signed Hayward for 4 years for 28 million (7 million per year), did your team overpay for him?

I'm happy for Hayward and I hope he lives up to that contract.

Basketball wise I agree but that DC money is as secure as storing it on the front dash in Compton while heywards money is in a untouchable off shore account in the Swiss alps. One you feel safe and secure with while the other you are constantly walking back to just to make sure it hasn't imploded.

A max contract for Hayward is a bit too much. I think he's a 10-12mil a year player. but if you're a restricted Free Agent the only way to steal a player away is offer the max to him.

I'm sure a lot of you don't watch Jazz games, and he's not on sports center for crazy highlights.

Hayward is a Hard worker on and off the court and getting better. He averages 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1.5 steals last season. He's a really productive player and does a lot of things well. I think Hayward is a safer signing the Lance Stephenson.

I like Gordon Hayward. I think he is a great all around player and I think he could be a key player on a championship team. BUT he is not a go to scorer and never will be.
You can give him the ball and he can run pick and rolls and he can get to the hoop every once in awhile and he is a good passer.
But you can't rely on him to hit the outside shot, get to the hoop, or score consistently. He is your 2nd or 3rd best player. And the Jazz are going to match like he is a all-star.
I wish they would let him go. but instead we will end up signing him. And we won't be able to sign Kanter or Burks now.

kobe4thewinbang
07-09-2014, 02:43 PM
My feelings are that if a player wants to join a different team, he shouldn't be reeled back in by the current team by the offer having been matched. The same thing happened with Eric Gordon. He didn't want to play with the Pelicans, and I doubt Hayward wants to play for the Jazz. It just sets up bad blood, but I understand the rights of both sides. I just think it's stupid to try and keep a player that clearly doesn't want to play with a team anymore, especially for 15 mil.

That is a lot of money for a third option and that is what he would be on our team.

Hopefully Utah matches and we use this money to go after Stephenson, I can't see him turning down that kind of money.
