That's a nice player option.

Surprised he opted out for that big of a pay cut. Good for him helping the team out

So is he making 16.5 million this season and then two years for 20 after that? or did he take a cut from 16.6 this season to 20 million over the next two seasons?

That's not really a paycut anymore.

He's getting paid $36 mil in 3 years.

This explains why it took so long to hammer out the deal.

Asking Zbo to drop his extension salary isn't something that's easy to do. Good on Zbo. And I expect that Zbo fully expects Memphis to live up to their end of the bargain and get them more talent.

We'll see how the FA pans out.

Sounds like A David West type of bargain. Very fair deal.

He didn't opt out:

Adrian Wojnarowski: After exercising his $16.5M player option for 2014-'15, Zach Randolph has agreed to 2-year, $20M extension with Memphis, sources tell Yahoo. Twitter @WojYahooNBA - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#sthash.C8ehfLSu.dpuf

It's a 2 yr extension on his player option this coming season. Basically three years. ZBO wants to retire a grizz and it looks like his wish comes true

Wouldn't it have made more sense for him to opt out and just sign a 3 year, $36.5 mil deal? That way MEM would have been able to save about $4 mil against the cap this year and get a little bit more flexibility under the luxury tax.

Maybe they were OK with front loading it to go after some of the fa class in the next two seasons?

Randolph wants that extra 5 mil now. Gotta feed his family.

Good deal for both, they need a SG and SF and they are ready to contend.

It actually works out well. Gasol needs to be resigned next year and Conley the year after. Actually, if Memphis plays their cards right they can afford a max player next season without giving up Gasol, Conley, Randolph, or tony Allen
