Go, Spurs! I say they win by 8-10 points. Kawhi needs to have a good game, on both sides of the floor.

This should be the first competitive game of the series. I think pop figured some stuff out while the third string was beating okc starters. I expect the spurs to win by 4-6

I'll be very disappointed if at least Diaw doesn't start. Him starting creates different issues for OKC that they would have to adjust to on the fly. Would be great if Manu starts too, but I'm on the fence on this, cause I'd prefer Green to start and defend Westbrook, and have TP on Jackson.

I trust Popovich.

I do too. I think.... lol. He can be stubborn sometimes like many coaches. I would not even be surprised if Bonner starts just to pull Ibaka away from the basket. Diaw provides that same floor stretching ability, but he's not the shooter Bonner is.

We will see. I look at it as Pop has had 2 games to see what OKC wants to do with their new lineup, now it's on him to make the necessary tweaks.

kdspurman
05-29-2014, 12:01 PM
So apparently OKC hasn't lost with Tony Brothers officiating in 2 years (?) and he's reffing tonight. I think it's sad there are stats for teams W/L with certain officials officiating, but I guess that's where we are. And I'm sure some are probably overblown.

I think this game can be won if guys come out from the tip and are aggressive and show a sense of urgency. And of course, not turn the ball over.

kdspurman
05-29-2014, 12:48 PM
Diaw and/or Manu obviously won't say if any changes were made, Diaw says he's not starting. Manu says to ask Pop of any lineup changes.

Another thing Pop may do is go small to start. A guard can guard Perkins cause if Perkins beats you, well then you just live with that.

Chatter is SA saw a lot of things that they can make tweaks to, to perform better against OKC. We will see what happens, but I think someone coming in to open the floor up for Parker is a must. We could see Belinelli get the start, or Joseph, who knows.

I mean, who knows, maybe Duncan doesn't even get the rebound and Ray Allen still nails the three. We'll never know.

As long as Ibaka is away from the basket, I'm good with whoever starts. That way, Parker can get some easy points. I think he needs a good game for them to have a chance. Or maybe Duncan will turn back the clock. Go, Spurs!

From what Diaw says he's not, but he obviously wouldn't say if he was or not. Pop would be furious. Would not surprise me to see Bonner or Belinelli get the start either. Guess we'll know about an hour or so before tip off.

I love Tiago, but I'd rather Boris start. Gives us more spacing, and probably a bit better defense on Ibaka. Plus it allows Tiago to match up with Adams off the bench. That's the only real change I think Pop will do.

Other would be giving Corey more minutes to stick on Westbrook since he is one of if not our best on the ball defender. Possibly less Beli since he has been useless in this series and can't really guard anyone except Thabo..who isn't playing anymore.

In all honesty, I think Baynes could be utilized maybe even more than Splitter with the 2nd unit, because he seems to be a little more physical and has shown flashes to give solid minutes. I definitely would not be opposed to that. Some matchups just aren't good for Splitter IMO.

I think Tiago is fine, but he has to play the same way he played the first 2 games. I think he should be the main screener with Ibaka guarding him, but for whatever reason we keep running it with Tim which allows Ibaka to stay in the paint since he's guarding Tiago.

Now that I'm reading what Diaw said..I could see Pop starting Bonner now to lure him away. It may actually not be a bad idea since Ibaka isn't someone who will attack Bonner 1 on 1, and Bonner should be quick enough to make a rotation. Another option I could see is if Pop goes small to match them with TP/Cojo/DG/Kawhi/Tim, though I see that as a long shot. Should be interesting to see what, or if he does anything.

The more ill-advised shots Westbrook takes, the better. He's been driving a lot more in the last two games, and I think he'll revert to his old ways if Joseph is put on him for 5 minutes here 'n there. Definitely need Bonner or Diaw to stretch the floor. I would play Ginobili more than he's been played, and less of Marco and Thiago.

Those seem like 2 realistic options. I worry about Tim cause his mobility at his age, but I think he will play better. I would be fine with Bonner starting, he's decent defensively and Ibaka has to guard him and can't sag off. Cojo starting could be interesting. I'm all for it, cause he has decent size. I'm sure if he really wanted, he could start both Diaw/Bonner AND Manu. Takes some ball handling pressures off TP.

But yea we'll see what happens. I think a change is almost a must, the floor spacing is not there with Duncan/Splitter. Especially with Ibaka guarding Splitter who practically lives in the paint.

I do think whoever wins this game is going to win the series though.

You should know by now in these playoffs that even the team that won game 5 didn't matter as the series went to 7. Just look at MEM-OKC and ATL-IND.

I do think the Spurs win tonight in game 5, but picking OKC to win in 7 (at San Antonio).

We can't rebound if we only have Tiago or Tim Duncan on the floor. We need both of them out there at the same time. Going small is going to help them get offensive rebounds.

We couldn't rebound with Tiago/Tim on the floor anyway :laugh2: I think speeding the game up will help. We need the fluidity back in the offense, and that doesn't happen as well with Tiago/Tim on the court together cause the floor spacing is not there. Ibaka can cheat off Tiago and help in the paint with relative ease.

I kinda hope Pop starts Manu & Diaw. Green/Leonard have each had big rebounding games over the course of the season, they will need to again. (assuming Pop does shake up the lineup)

We always get the lead early on because Tim and Tiago are on the floor. Why can't we keep them their longer?
I just want our three point shooters to shoot even when half contested. It's the freaking WCF, and they still expect to get wide open looks.

Pop said there will be a lineup change, but won't reveal what it is btw.

Let's go Okc!

Pablonovi
05-29-2014, 08:35 PM
I love both these teams for decidedly different reasons:
OKC because of their 2.5 Super-Stars
S.A. because they are the most machine-like I've maybe ever seen AND deep, deep deep!

I'm hoping for a highly competitive game; love OT.
KEY FOR OKC: Westy's speed (on both ends): Can the Spurs slow him enough? Can he continue to stop T.P.?
KEY FOR SPURS: Play DEEP; keep rotating in fresh "troops"; keep being the Spurs (move the ball like a smooth-machine).

X-Factor: Ibaka (how big he comes up on both sides of the ball.

Predictions: KD (not our mod here): 35 pts; Westy 27-10-10
S.A.S: Nobody over 24
GAME: 110-103 OKC.

SERIES: OKC in 6 (I'm not rooting for it; but I think Westy's hit a new speed level (for him & maybe for anybody ever.)

Parkers body language is not good. The rest of the guys look fine, but Parker looks defeated. Never seen him look like that.

That's fine, he's getting other guys involved. They can win at home with him playing like this because role players play better at home

Yeah, Brooks played Fisher too long. And he needs to leave Ibaka on Duncan/Splitter and use Jones/Collison to guard Diaw. Because Brooks is an idiot, he's letting Ibaka go out on the perimeter leaving the paint under protected.

Biggest difference is never playing Duncan/Splitter together. That'll work against a team like Memphis or Indy, but not OKC. The paint is open tonight cause Serge can't just sag off Splitter and contest shots like he's been doing.

I read an article today that I think 5 other guys had that injury and none returned in less than a month. Almost speculating to the fact that perhaps some sort of illegal substance was involved to rush the process. I kind of wonder why the league doesn't look at that sort of thing to be honest, but then I snap back to reality and realize they're all about one thing.

Don't know if it's true or not, but I think it'd warrant a look. I know they suspended Nick Calathes from the Grizz right before the playoffs for a banned substance, some "athletic supplement.

ACtually my hope is it gets down to 14 and OKC plays their starters most of the quarter.

I wouldn't put that past Pop; it'd be brilliant on his part; and dumb on Brooks' in pursuit of a lost cause.

Now it's up to Brooks to adjust game 6. Spurs fortunately found something that worked and sort of eliminated the "serge effect" However, how will the Spurs role players play in OKC? Should make for a nerve-wracking Saturday night :sigh:

What's funny is if he was in and hit a 3 to cut it to 22 or dunked, he would still do it.

Not if you're an OKC fan even if they did manage to tie it somehow.

Manu with 19 points (7-9 shooting) and 6 assists in 21 minutes with 0 turnovers. Unbelievable game

These blow-outs sure are inspiration-killers. I'm wordless; how often does that happen?
