Huge blow.

Grizzlies Zach Randolph suspended 1 gm (Game 7) for punching OKC's Steven Adams in the jaw last night with 6:42 remaining in 4Th quarter.

Is this the play where adams pulled his arm so he shoved him? This can't be serious?

05-02-2014, 06:44 PM
I saw the play in slo-mo over on nba.com.

He clenched his fist and upon impact, it was of a clenched fist.

Sucks, though. it wasn't even that strong. It was more like a push off...unfortunately for him, he clenched his fist.

Here is the video. You can clearly see a clenched fist.

It WAS just a push off like everyone saw, but the clenched fist did him in.

Here's the play https://vine.co/v/MrDrxEbMgPW

It looked like he was using his forearm and his fist made contact with his face instead. I don't think he intended to do that but that's just my guess

Frustration but absolutely stupid of ZBo. Adams was beasting on him with 5 blocks. But really? They didn't see or call it in the game. Didn't catch it after tape review post game ?? Just when did they decide ? Ah must've been after the OKC reporter who called out Durant made a call. Just sayin

Memphis seems like the kind of team that will rally around this and play 3 really good quarters on the road in OKC. Still expected the Thunder to win anyway.

Nah, that was Perkins and they were both hollering at each other across the lockers that year.
Caron Butler was lucky James Johnson didn't go off on him last night. JJ is a black belt kick boxing champion.

Exactly. Watch out for the NBA interfering with the rest of your teams' chances. They want their little darlings to win at any price. Pull up NBA.com and do a search for "NBA fix" and the story about Zach is the 3rd story.

Zbo gets suspended but George does not.

Seems legit

Z-bo didn't like being owned by Adams. If Adams wasn't blocking all of his shots before z-bo got frustrated and angry, maybe the league would be more lenient. I think the league is right in punishing z-bos stupidity and immaturity. It wasn't as bad as "punch to the jaw" sounds like, but it was a closed fist to the face which is completely unnecessary.

kdspurman
05-02-2014, 07:46 PM
I think he was gonna push him. But Adams didn't turn so Zach missed his shoulder and caught his face.

That's kind of what my thinking was as well. League can't put stuff into context I guess

I feel your pain... Aside from them matching up with us well, it feels like at times it's so much with them. (in terms of friendly calls) 2012 Game 6 still pisses me off, though after last year it's sort of taken a back seat to disappointment/anger.

Hopefully your guys come out motivated and shock the world.

Hawkeye15
05-02-2014, 07:56 PM
hold on, PG isn't suspended for leaving the bench, a CLEAR violation that requires suspension, but ZBo is suspended for basically pushing Adams away? I get the closed fist thing, but he wasn't punching him.

Weak sauce, all the way around. Now I really want Memphis to win game 7.

If Blair got suspended for a halfhearted kick, then Z-Bo should be suspended too. People can be mad about it and it will essentially doom the Grizzlies unless Gasol goes off or something, but it's Z-Bo's fault.

05-02-2014, 09:37 PM
Only being fair is never fair, it's just to make the folks making those decisions can fool themselves.

This is really BS. You don't suspend a guy from a game 7 for a closed hand push. NBA wants Durant to stay in the playoffs. That's fair, right?

mzgrizz
05-02-2014, 09:41 PM
Really sucks for ZBo. Refs review it at the time and call it a common foul. He travels with the team to OKC today and gets told 26 hours or so before game 7 that he's suspended. Really??? The league is really really wanting to be sure of the TV ratings down the stretch. With no "stars" on tv commercials pushed by the NBA, they sure didn't want the imminently named MVP sitting at home or gone fishing. So the big fix is in. Hell, we've already beaten them twice at home in this series. They wanted no such chance again.

MrfadeawayJB
05-02-2014, 09:49 PM
I'm speechless. Let's not act like Perkins, collison, and adams don't close handed push ZBO all the time in the paint

I think they will appeal the suspension and let Zbo tell his side of what happened.

Which is what? I got nudged so I thought a medium elbow to his face was the appropriate response? He's an idiot and got the most common outcome. It would've been an anomaly had he not gotten suspended for that. Grizz are losing game 7 with or without Z-Bo, conspiracy theorists have their day, though...

mzgrizz
05-02-2014, 10:23 PM
They won 2 of 3 games in OKC with ZBo in this series. This way, there's a snowball's chance in hell they will make it 3 of 4. Certainly no collusion here.

Zach Randolph and the Grizzlies are flat out getting cheated here. To get banned from an all or nothing game for something like that is just disgusting. I honestly do not know how the people who decided this can sleep at night. To absolutely rob him of a game like this. If Steve Adams actually got hurt by this or if Zach actually started a fight (rather than just committing a foul) than I could see merit. But if you are going to ban someone from a game of this magnitude make sure they actually did something ban-able.

Banning him for a technicality, or in this case just pure garbage reason is literally cheating and robbing that person from something. Even the refs, who just love to call flagrants and technicals, called it common foul and moved on. The NBA is robbing Zach Randolph and if I were him I would not only fight this now, whether Memphis wins or loses, I would fight this all off season and would want an apology from the NBA. This just is not fair at all, the NBA is blatantly robbing Randolph and by association the Memphis Grizzlies. Unacceptable and appalling. Favoritism at it's finest.

Memphis would probably lose anyway, but this is based on principle. And you are robbing someone when what happened had no merit to the previous game. Banning a player from the single most important game, again just appalling.

Since it's not a certainty OKC would win, the NBA HAD to be as sure as they could, without suspending the entire team. Mike Conley is hurt and can't play to the max; we have no backup PG now, so the NBA wants to insure their darling Madison Ave OKC boys stay in the race by late calling ZBo with a push. This is really appallingly deceitful. Makes me want to :puke:

even if he wins the appeal he still cannot play, he just would not have to pay a fine.

Can't the NBA be any more blatant? Too obvious.

I mean, even with Randolph in, OKC should still be able to win it, but this is just egregious on the league's part.

At the very least he can say that it was a push and not a punch.

Normally you don't "push" peoples faces. It had nothing to do with basketball; he was just being a thug and retaliated to a light push on his hip running up the court. He got suspended. Standard.

But again, beat off to your conspiracy fodder and enjoy your basement all you want, kids.
