I really do think he resigned, not "resigned" like the Knicks (he was fired unofficially here).

I think the Lakers were ok with bringing him back so the team would lose next year also. Alas, he didn't want to be a coach in which he'd be there for 1 year only or get fired mid-year.

Lakers just got saved by Dantoni...cause I truly think they were intent on bringing him back for that 1 more year.

I'd hire George Karl as coach, sign Melo 4 yr and sign Chauncey Billups 1 yr veterans deal. Unite those 3 from their 2009 wcf nuggets days. I would resign Pau on the cheap (which he said he would if the situation was right).

Try to trade Nash to someone looking for an expiring in exchange for a contract that may end in 2016.

And not to mention we don't even know what lotto pick were gonna have.

Several possibilities going forward.

One thing you can say about D'Antoni, he has enough integrity to leave when staying isn't in the best interests of the team. He did it when it was clear that he and Melo wouldn't get along in NY, now he's done it in LA when it's clear that next year would be a waste of time for everyone.

As for the next Head Coach, given how Jim Buss has done so far I wouldn't be shocked if they hire Woodson or Vinny DelNegro. ;)

i feel bad for D'Antoni. No coach...not even Poppovich...can make this injury riddled, D-League talent level team a playoff team. It's not his fault that the Lakers suck so much. Unfortunately, the Lakers need a scapegoat and he was it. and, as usual, the fans succumbed to mob mentality, picked up their pitchforks, and crucified the wrong guy. the guy they should've crucified is the guy who put this team together...not the poor fool chosen to lead this group of misfits into the playoffs.

D'Antoni was in an impossible situation. He was screwed as soon he was signed instead of Phil Jackson.

Toss in Kobe, Nash and Pau's injuries last year. Kobe's reinjury, Nash's persistent injury and the trading of Steve Blake at the deadline and he was fielding a D-league roster.

Not saying D'Antoni is a great coach, but he's had rosters not tailored to his offensive systems in Ny and LA, and no talent this year. I mean really, how good can your team REALLY be when your best player is Swaggy P? Looking at the top 10 teams, on how many teams would Swaggy P even be a starter? On some of them could he even earn a spot on the 2nd unit?

D'Antoni will be fine. Some team will hire him either in the pro's or college. GM's just need to stop putting him on rosters that can't play to his coaching style. That and force him to employ a good defensive assistant coach and you can field a pretty decent team.
