Cliff Paul, known as the 5 seconds older twin of Clippers Point Guard Chris Paul has died at 28 years old. Cause of death likely suicide.

State Farm has pulled all sponsorship from the Clippers.

Good thing they were already transitioning to Curry with the last commercial. Ride the hot hand, State Farm. Well played.

But really, does pulling from the Clippers organization also mean pulling from CP3 himself? I'm not sure, and it would be a very strange move by them if so. One that they would actually likely receive negative press over if true.

Clippersfan86

Well.... now it increases the chance CP3 will demand a trade, that's for sure. Unless Magic got ownership (CP3's idol). I don't care for CP3 much TBH.... but if the team is forced to renounce players to free agency like a rumored possibility I've heard... He's gone.

That was most likely a goodwill gesture from Curry's big bro and mentor. Gotta love what CP3 has done for your squad, getting your boy pub and giving him pointers in his youth. Its not hard to pull off commercials, but I'll be shocked if Curry gets more than deodorant duties.

Did anyone NOT think this was going to happen?

The Clippers are going to lose a TON of sponsors. Any players associated with the Clippers will lose sponsors as well.

It's too big now. It's far too big for anyone to ignore, whether it's the NBA or the corporate world.

Feel bad for the Clippers fans, but this situation is really unavoidable. Going to be a lot of dark before the dawn.

Sterling is out, he's made too many people mad. Moves like this is are the private sector helping to guide the hand of the league in making the correct choice in getting rid of him as an owner.

I'll be glad to see him gone.

It's like when Nike, McD's and Sprite cut ties with Kobe in 2003 after the rape allegations (although Nike came crawling back to him and now has the most popular commercials out there).

But this is cutting ties with a whole organization, which affects the players when they didn't even do anything.

Just another reason for CP3 to demand a trade this summer.

At least for Blake and chris, Kia and state farm only suspended their sponsorship. I'd imagine if DTS is ousted they will be back supporting the new owner and likely the new team name. Just my guess

It's going to be HARD to oust him out of ownership on the basis of racist comments made during a 'PRIVATE' conversation.

He's going to sue the NBA back and he will win the case.

He's done it before, and he's won. He'll do it again.

I wouldn't be so sure. If Sterling's history has told us anything, it's that he's a very stubborn and difficult individual (and with age I can't imagine he has become a better person :laugh2:). NBA also doesn't want a lengthy and costly legal battle which is evidently why they are currently treading lightly.

He doesn't OWN the team any more than you can OWN a Subway sandwich store. It's a franchise, there are conditions and bylaws he has to be aware of. (http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303939404579528163324262086)

Legally there is even precedent, Ted Stepien was "forced" out after citing the importance of fielding more white players, believing that would boost attendance. A deal was brokered between him and Stern.

Yes. They can. How many facts do you need? Ted Stepien was "forced" out after citing the importance of fielding more white players, believing that would boost attendance. That was said in a PRIVATE conversation, there wasn't even a recording, just a lot of witnesses. A deal was brokered between him and Stern.

There is a by law that allows the NBA to force the sale of a franchise, as I previously quoted/linked too;

"Requiring the sale of a team would be the most severe sanction," said sports lawyer Jeffrey Kessler, a partner at Winston & Strawn LLP. "But I believe the NBA would take the position that the commissioner has the necessary authority to take action." He said article 35 of the NBA's constitutional bylaws—which aren't public—gives the commissioner those powers.

And whether or not the conversation was private means nothing. It's bad for business, immoral and as I've proven, if they want to take the franchise from him, they can.

At the very least they can suspend him and take over control, they can do that right now, immediately, and eventually he will just sell, or the league will regain control and wait until he dies.

I know the only reason you are fighting this is because you hate the idea of Magic buying the franchise, but you have to let your bias go and read the facts that I am presenting to you.

If they want to. It can be done. End of discussion.

Kia, Carmax, Aquahydrate, Diageo PLC (Walker and Smirnoff), Sprint, Mercedes-Benz, Corona, Commerce Hotel and Casino, Red Bull, and State Farm and the list keeps growing.

That brought the number of sponsors dumping the Clippers, or at least suspending support, to 11...

Racist remarks or attitudes are the one thing that's sure to make corporate sponsors on Madison Avenue head for the hills, said Mike "The Reputation Doctor" Paul.

That's why it's not surprising why sponsors reacted so quickly Monday morning to a story that only broke this weekend. Said Mr. Paul: "There's a zero tolerance for it. You cannot be associated with anything racist in this country."

http://adage.com/article/news/state-farm-carmax-distance-l-a-clippers/292916/

As long as Sterling owns the team, he won't just lose "some" sponsors, he'll most likely lose nearly all of them.
