Westbrook has the worst shot selection!

When will he learn?

poleandreel
04-27-2014, 12:20 AM
See this is the issue I have with the Westbrook hate. The play is to get the ball to Durant...then for 20 seconds they try getting the ball to weak *** KD but he can't get the ball with Allen on him, forcing Westbrook to take a long horrendous shot.

Is that really westbrooks fault when the play is to get the ball to KD?

kobe4thewinbang

This series is crazy. 3rd OT in a row.

I'm not sure how many more games OKC can take against the Grizzlies. They need to close it out fast or they'll have nothing left in the tank for the 2nd round.

And Tony Allen... wow. Been watching him for a few years now and saying he's the best perimeter defender in the NBA. The job he did on Durant this series has been unreal so far. Glad to see he's getting more props now.

I couldn't believe it when it happened. I said hell no to that prayer of a 3, but it went in. Memphis looked confused by that play with the floater by Jackson that tied it up. No way OKC could win 3 straight games, so I'm glad that didn't happen. Conley should've made that layup and even that little shot in the paint. He had a nice step-back shot, but that final 3 was icky. OKC got very lucky tonight.

You forgot the crap players LBJ had with him in Cleveland.

Shaq and Ben Wallace, one of which outplayed him in the pivotal game 5 of the series and was a top 8 player all time?

How so? He never quit on his team and joined a franchise with a player who won a title as the man in Wade. Not to mention it took 7 games in back to back years to win series against teams that didn't even win 50 games in the freaking Eastern Conference.

ManRam and a couple other guys were right, KD is immune to criticism. They brought it up after the last game, but I just thought to myself, KD will set this straight the next game. Now he comes out with this piss poor performance, it's atrocious. LeBron wouldn't have gotten off with a series like this so far as easy as KD has. What is he now, 1-15 from 3 in the last 2 games?

If Durant played for the Cavs and that s**ty roster, he would have retired two years into the league.

Nobody cares. Bron was CLEARLY "the man" so , irrelevant.

Point? He still won, series would've been easier had the Heat been healthy but you wont mention that because its not your prerogative, the objective truth, never is.

can we stop now with KD is the best player in the league

He is no.2 but no where near no.1

He had the best regular season, that's undeniable.

But I've said all along that "best regular season" and "best player" are not always the same thing.

He hasn't had the chance to, yet. And if he ever does?! My god! He'd be leaving such a better situation than Bron did.

I thought you turned the corner, JB. Guess not! The hate is still alive! You're on the verge of sounding like quite the hypocrite. Many are with their handling of KD.

Shaq's a top 8-10 player of all time, but was a fraction of himself during those Cleveland years. That's such a misleading claim...and you're saying it for no other reason than to mislead.

Shaq was playing 22 minutes a game in the playoffs for Cleveland. He as averaging 11.5/5.5. He was posting a PER of 16.2. The guy was a shell of himself. He had negative on/off splits all year. He was arguably a liability.

Ben Wallace was playing under 13 minutes a game in the 2008-09 playoffs and under 24 the year before. And what game 5 are you talking about? And even so...THAT'S ONE GAME!

Come on, dude. If that's the BEST he had, well....my god! I don't know why I continue to bother with you. I'm also not sure why you had the urge to bring it up. So...moving along....

There was only 1 frontcourt partner that Shaq could play with, Mike Brown didn't go to it in the post season. Shaq was a liability, but only because of inept coaching that didn't know when and how to use him. Even Bron was questioning the tactics.

Hes talking about a game where Shaq (with plenty of help from Bron IIRC) outscored Bron vs the Celtics (As if Bron/Shaq were competing and not helping each other out). But lets put that accomplishment in perspective. Noted homer Bill Simmons had this to say about it, "YES!!, PLZ KEEP FEEDING SHAQ AND SLOWING THE GAME DOWN", thats not word for word but you get the gist. You know its sad when the biggest Celtic homer is loving the gameplan against his team, as he should, it led to his team advancing.

Come on, dude. If that's the BEST he had, well....my god! I don't know why I continue to bother with you. I'm also not sure why you had the urge to bring it up. So...moving along....
Its a form of brainwashing, you repeat the same tired story enough times, people might start believing it, well, so long as people like you and I dont put such ignorance in its place.

This game presents so many dimensions to discuss today. From basically the tip of the 2nd half of the game 1 thru game 3, Memphis clearly showed 3 things. One, OKC can be forced into a half court game, and two, they sucked at it. I don't think it is remotely possible for a team to win a title in this league without a consistent half court game and KD, Westbrook, KD, Westbrook, KD, Westbrook ain't a true half court offense, it's hero ball and that 3rd thing Memphis proved is 2 on 5, no matter how good the 2 are, can be beaten, and you don't have to be the Miami Heat to do it.

Until last nite, Memphis had slowed us down and forced OKC into their same old 2 man half court game and won game 2 and 3, and almost erased a 25 point deficit in game 1. You can get away with it during the regular season, sometimes even against good teams, but in a seven games series against a good defensive minded team.... not gonna happen.

So the Thunder opened up their half court offense last night, took a while to gain some traction, but by the end of the 3rd quarter they amassed a 12 point cushion.... then Brooks' butt cheeks puckered. He is quoted in the Oklahoman today saying to Durant in the break between the 3rd and 4th, "Take over this fourth quarter, take over this fourth quarter." OMG, within 7 minutes that lead disappeared like a fart in a tornado, within 10 1/2 minutes the Thunder were down by 5!!! Basically our offense in the 4th was, Durant Durant Durant, timeout, Westbrook Westbrook Westbrook, omg, these guys couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat, timeout, Reggie, Reggie, overtime.

The Thunder player with the highest shooting percentage for the series is Serge Ibaka, Brooks set up zero plays for him in the fourth, same for overtime. That's unthinkable, winning teams always go with the hot hand.... hell even Michael Jordan deferred to John Paxon from time to time. This game will always be remembered for Jackson's heroics, he took 3 total shots in the 4th quarter.... 3. Only 2 in overtime.

So.... in the last 17 minutes of last night's game, the Thunder's best percentage shooter of the series and the hottest hand last night shot the ball a grand total of 5 times. This may even more telling, not one of the 4 makes by Jackson in those 5 shots resulted in someone being credited for an assist. He got the shots because HE brought the ball down the floor and said SCREW Brooks! and took the shots.

Been a Thunder fan since they first landed at Will Rogers Airport. Got really passionate when Brooks got them playing hard no matter what, but I have had these nagging question growing for some time. Why aren't we developing a more diverse half court presence? Is Brooks not teaching one? Can't teach one? Are the players refusing to apply one? Don't know anything but KD/Westbrook?

That quote from Brooks to Durant cleared it all up. Brooks got a reprieve thanks to Reggie Jackson last nite, but if he intentionally stymies our half court sets again, win or lose, Presti should send him packing. He constantly preaches about his players trusting their teammates. How in the heck are they supposed to trust their teammates when he doesn't? No matter what he says to the press, he showed his hand during that break. He basically said to KD and the entire team, "you've sucked all night KD, but I don't trust Reggie, even though he has shot 7 for 11 tonite, or Serge, even though he is 6 for 11 tonight and who is our most consistent scorer in this series, to bring this one home. Even though you haven't hit a 3 point shot since Moby Dick was a minnow, I want you to go out there and take over and I am going to pray to the basketball gods that your shot suddenly starts falling......" his prayers went unanswered, we're right back into 2 man hero ball with the rest of the team playing zombie ball, TIMEOUT, "ok plan B, KD can't get going, Russell, go out there and chunk it at the rim every single trip down the floor. I don't care if Serge is open, Caron is open, or even Reggie.... KD sucked so your the man! Don't worry about how the press will crucify you tomorrow, just do it! and I'll keep praying to the basketball gods that YOUR shots will start falling...." his prayers go unanswered, TIMEOUT! now he says "Wah wah wah wa-ah... wah wah... wha wha wha (or that is all his players are hearing by this point), Reggie knocks down back to back shots... overtime.

One of the sports writers at the Oklahoman wrote yesterday that basketball was not a game of X's and O's, it's a game of focus and determination. Hogwallow! It's both. Focus and determination without direction is useless. Focused on what? Determined to do what? There still has to be a plan, and in a team sport it has to be a team plan. It helps if it is a good plan, and telling 2 guys to take on 5 doesn't qualify as a good plan. It doesn't take a basketball genius to do the math on that formula to know it is doomed to fail at some point and yet Brooks went back to it last night anyway. I might even cut him some slack if I could think of one single logical reason, no matter how weak, to do so. There isn't any. Attacking Memphis with all 5 guys involved was producing and had the Grizz off their game. They weren't making shots, heck they were missing free throws. The good plan had taken them completely by surprise and out of their comfort zone and moreover, it was obvious. Obvious to everyone it seems, except Scott Brooks.
