I saw Reggie Jackson's solid contribution to the Thunder as they snapped the Spurs' 19-game winning streak. He was really instrumental in that win and in the Thunder's success overall, and it made me think about the sixth man award.
Who do you think's the best? Should it matter as much if they're on a crappy team overall, or should it be more statistical?
Here are the top 10 by the numbers: http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2014/04/02/sixth-man-candidates-by-the-numbers/
Each has a story:
Markieff Morris has been a big part of the biggest surprise in the NBA.
Jamal Crawford's on a good team, and he by far scores the most, even on a per-minute basis.
Taj Gibson is much better defensively and has made a big difference for Chicago still being relevant, and he's only started eight games.
Reggie Jackson helped keep the Thunder elite when Russell Westbrook was out.
I personally think Gibson should win the award, with Morris a close second. Playing behind Carlos Boozer has to be a challenge, and Gibson plays some of the best defense of any sixth man candidate. Meanwhile, Morris has probably played better than his brother Marcus and been a big part of the biggest surprise in the NBA.

Crawford shouldn't even count but he "meets the criteria" and the NBA loves to baby their princesses so they'll give it to Crawford. I honestly think it should go to Morris because he is leading the league in double-doubles off the bench and is 4th in bench scoring along with bringing back the mid range game and being a key piece in the resurgence of the Suns. His fg% is one of the best among bench players too if I'm not mistaken. Rankings might of changed a bit so feel free to correct me.

Without looking at stats and just knowing how taj has contributed, its hard to imagine there are other players more deserving. Again, thats without doing the research.

Crawford will win because he MEETS THE CRITERIA, but he isnt playing again this season and started 23 of 66 games. Id give it to Markieff Morris

Homer pick : Swaggy P

I wouldn't call that a homer pick. But if you're going with Nick "Swaggy P" Young, then you're basing your decision almost entirely on scoring. And Jamal Crawford is a better scorer than Young, even on a per-minute basis.
They can both keep their points. I think Taj Gibson is the best sixth man all around.

I want Taj or Kieff to get it.

Green deserves it more than Crawford.

Taj is borderline all-star if he starts.

Lol smiddy, he's not that good of a player. He's a great bench player, and an average starter.

Griffin, Love, Davis, Bosh, Ibaka, Aldridge, Lee, Dirk, Millsap Ryan Anderson, Thaddeus Young, Pau are all better than he is. Then you have guys like Monroe, Favors, Amir Johnson, Ilyasova, David West, and a couple others that could all be argued for above Gibson. Not to mention players that play both positions like Horford. Or a player like Melo who has been a full time power forward for multiple seasons now.

So like I said, at best he's an average starter. Last I checked, an average starting player doesn't make you borderline all-star.

didnt Crawford start like a third of the games this year? shouldnt even count if you start more than 10 imo. id say, Taj or Young or morris.. and probs not young because his team is a joke

Taj. His defense is more game changing then Crawford offense off the bench.
