Would Mutombo-McKie-Snow have made the Finals with Kevin Love instead of Allen Iverson?

the east was pretty bad at that time, but I am not sure if they make it to the finals or not. I mean, Love is far more efficient than AI, but I just don't know if he could score at the volume necessary to get that team to be what it was.

Love is a more efficient scorer but he doesn't create pace or breakdown D. Love is a great player but will need other play makers on his team to be a winner. This is not a circumstance where i take love over AI

Yep, agreed on that for that specific Sixers team.

Yeah, so does every other great player to ever play, so?

Really? Off the top of my head, the current Rockets come to mind. Tell me, who helps them more? Literally thought of that in 2 seconds. There are a lot of situations where one great player is more valuable than another great player, and vice versa.

Nope. Antonio Davis/Charles Oakely on the inside would scare Love and the Raptors would probably sweep :D

with love in AI's place the sixers do not have enough play makers. their guards are Ollie, Snow, and Mackie and they get worst defensively up front. that team doesn't make the finals. there are a lot of circumstances where i take love over AI, this isn't one of them

Agree with everyone else. Love is overall more efficient but not what that team needed in terms of volume and breaking down defenses.

Nope.

Volume playmaking over hyper efficient offense

Yeah, I agree. I would take Love in plenty of circumstances over AI, but not in this specific one.

I apologize, I thought your post said there wasn't any circumstance where you would take Love over AI. My b

I don't see how anyone could legitimately think that a Love-for-AI 2000-2001 Sixers team would have made it to the finals.

Mutombo is a dream pairing next to love at the center.

Love would have matched up with Horace Grant (35) and Robert Horry (30). Fair to say he would have torched them. Grant would have hated to chase him around the perimeter at 35.

Still a very good team, but no. That team uniquely needed Iverson.

Hell yes. That front court would be destructive. Remember, Mutumbo was a complete beast during the playoffs.

What if Wilt had been made bionic and had an invisible giraffe friend that had ESP capabilities?

No doubt.

Love is a more efficient player than A.I could ever dream of being.

But that team was built around having a little guy that could put pressure on defenses and put up 40+ a night if need be. He was also a key part of their defensive scheme. Since Snow, Mckie, Hill, Lynch, and Mutumbo were all above-average to great defenders they could allow A.I to gamble on his man and get a lot of opportunities in transition. A.I thrived in the open court and this was a huge part of how they got their offense going.

Love will probably end up higher on the all-time list than A.I when it's all said and done, but it's tough to say whether he would be the right fit for THAT squad. It was such a particularly constructed roster that I'm leaning towards no, simply because Love is a different type of scorer and puts pressure on defenses in different ways than Iverson.

Now if Love and Iverson were on the same team with all those defenders surrounding them, maybe they could've won more than one game against Shaq and co.

Love is not scoring 50 on Shaq and the other dominating bigs of the era.

It depends on whether the 76ers could get a small forward or shooting guard better than Theo Ratliff was at power forward. Ratliff was at least the third-best player on that team. He averaged 12.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per 36 minutes.

Shaq wasn't that great defensively; he dominated on the offensive end. I think Love could score fairly easily on him.

No offense, but if they had Shaq guard him he would score 50. Shaq's fat *** isn't chasing Love all over the court.

I think if Love had the Sixers defense, they would be a much better team than what he has today.

But, I don't know that they make the Finals, even though that was a crazy weak East for the Sixers.

Love is showing better statistics this year than Iverson did that year though.

But I think Love would be required to shoot even more, and that would probably take him down some pegs.
