LEBRON JAMES v. TERRENCE ROSS

MHC TAKE:

It is March 31st and the Raps are now 11 games over .500 and sit third in the Eastern Conference. If you had told many Raps fans that lone sentence back in November, people would of called you crazy. But that is the reality for the Raps with just 9 games left, they certainly are now in conrtol of their own destiny. The Raps have now won their last 3 games after dropping a tough game to the Cavs in Cleveland. Tonight, Toronto is in South Beach for a date with the Miami Heat after coming off a 5 point win over the Magic last night. For tonights game, Toronto is expected to welcome back PF Patrick Patterson to the lineup after missing the last 13 games due to injury. His return will be a breath of fresh air for the Raps who have missed his consistent scoring off the bench through the last month. On the other side of the court, the Heat are likely without start guard D.Wade once again as he continues to nurse a sore hamstring. Wade has only played in 51 games this season to date. Also, Chalmers is expected to miss the game tonight while Ray Allen is set to return after missing the last two with the flu. The last time these two teams played was back on January 5th when the Heat knocked off the Raps 102-97. In that game, James had 30 points as the Raps had no answer for the King. Toronto was also out rebounded 42-34 in the loss, something the Raps have to do much better this time around if they hope to steal one on the road. The Heat currently find themselves last in the league in rebounding and are vunerable on the glass. Toronto has to hit the glass early and go after it hard!

Lets go Raps!

Our backcourt will probably abuse them just as much as Lebron torches us.

Hopefully we pull it out.

Chalmers is out with an injury like Wade so Douglas starts at PG. Jones has been the starter when Allen/Wade has been unable to play.

gives me hope that the raps can come away with a big W tonight. would be great for their confidence to beat the defending champs heading in to the post season. even if they arent healthy..

I would too. But Durant is a bit frail to be throwing huge money at with a long term. Plus it's Lebron's contract situation that is so enticing. As funny as it sounds... It might be easier to get James.

All that frail frame has done for him is catapult him as the 2nd best (closing in on the best) player on the planet.

If there's a chance you can lure him here, as slim as that may be, you do it without hesitation.

First and foremost Casey is just a tool. I cannot wait to see us get rid of this guy. His rotations don't make sense. The team needs rebounding help, yet he keeps Hayes in at the 5 who is like 6'6. Then, Fields who probably can guard Lebron the best on our team, hasn't even seen the light of day in this game.

Still don't get issues people have with Demar, the guy was the 9th pick paid like a 2nd or 3rd option and excels the pick and the money he makes. Not to mention he's signed an extension here and is a work horse who constantly improves his game.

Ever loss is Demars fault and every win is cause of Lowry according to this forum. They have both been pretty damn equal, Lowry gets the big plays well Demar constantly gets to the rim and handles the scoring load. Now insert a big time PF or star forward and this team is set.

I use to think that, but I don't think they are equal. Sure we can't have both of them absent for a longer period of time. But in short term, if we lose DD, there is someone on this team that can fill that void temporarily (Ross). However if you lose lowry, I think the team suffers quite a bit. GV is decent, but he can never fill lowry's shoes. Lowry is the driving force of this team. We need DD's scoring. But DD doesn't have the same drive and heart Lowry possesses. In the grand scheme of things, of course we need both players for raptors to succeed.

If a guy has to be a top 10 player of all-time to be an impact player then there are like 2 impact players in the league at any given time. Demar isn't a HoFer and I think we all know that. We all know that he's not a #1 option on a contending team.

I don't understand the comparison. That's like using Stephen Hawking as a measuring stick for someone's intelligence. Can't use an outlier like Lebron or Hawking to draw any useful conclusions.

I used an exaggerated example to make a point but to beat a champion with players that level, you actually do need to be their match. If you want to better Stephen Hawking/NBA champion you need a workable strategy to be as good as them. The idea isn't just to measure whether these players are good. We all know they're good (i.e. intelligent, in your parallel). The question is whether they're good enough (i.e. intelligent enough) to beat the best (i.e. Stephen Hawking).

You could also have impact role players, glue players, etc but at some point you have to be realistic about what level of player is needed if the talk -- as it has been lately -- is of championships. It's what Bramaca was talking about in another thread yesterday I believe.

You are right that there are very few impact players in the league. They're also champions. It's not a coincidence. The challenge is to find those players, find players that will play within a team concept, and/or develop them.

I've seen shades of this since around all star break. I think unless we lock up the #3 against washington, then we don't stand a chance in the first round. We're still too wildly inconsistent as a team, especially playing with the lead.

I've been concerned about this deja vu since the start but supporting the team we have. I'm still supporting them, as you are, and we'll just see where we get to and how MU handles it. I like the guy a lot and I hope he can make this work.
