Tough matchup for our bigs. Both Antic & Milsap can stretch the floor. Hopefully we use the matchup to our advantage and get our bigs involved inside. ATL doesn't have much length down low.

Is this the first time the Raptors got picked for NBA Fan Night?

The Raps will bounce back tonight, ATL is probably going to be tired in the second half on this back-to-back.

Them + Vasquez can't be on the court together. Your just asking for problems. I would rather have fields in there instead of Novak.

Novak has his spot on the team... But is it setting screens, rebounding, and post defense while GV chucks at the other end?

Maybe Aprille Deus (coach protege) is drawing up plays.

It still doesn't change the fact that he took a couple of very questionable shots with the game on the line. And he's 7-17, so he's not exactly shooting it well. What he did well the rest of the game is get to the line, but when the going got tough and he got tired, he started shooting lazy jump-shots.

Bad loss. Too many mistakes on both ends of the floor. A question of basketball IQ and greasy hands.

It is interesting that Masai never addressed the lack of a back up C before the deadline. With his knowledge of the game, I would assume that he expects injuries. We were lucky that we won that game against Memphis but the loss of Patterson changed the dynamics and Casey struggled with the match ups.

Masai had no expectations but to allow the youth to grow without jeopardizing flexibility.

I can feel the pain Lowry is experiencing now...the first guy that walked off the court...he really wanted to win this game. What a warrior. This could be one of the games that may look back when he makes that decision. A first round elimination and a sweep would devastate him I'm sure.

The Hawks spread the floor with 3 point shooters and Teague opened them up by penetrating almost at will. It's hard to win in this league when only two players are scoring. Derozan and Lowry were the only ones taking shots while everyone else just stood around. Just bad basketball.

of course it's not pretty and it's being carried to a large degree by 2 players. haven't you made the point in the past that the team is composed to a large degree of blue collar hustle players? isn't that the only type of player you said Casey could coach? so what on earth do you have to complain about when a team of blue collar hustle players manages to be one of the best offenses in the NBA for the majority of this season.

We weren't scoring 10 points a game with Rudy. We've played 3 times as many games without him than with him -- the average isn't far off from the post-Rudy average.

Teams are getting better at figuring us out, too... I'm pretty sure our offensive numbers in the last 10-15 games are closer to Rudy numbers. We've been winning by shutting teams down in the 4th quarter, not by having a great offense. Certainly nowhere near "one of the best".

I didn't want to break up the team and go for a top playoff pick.

I didn't have any expectations that the team would blow everybody away and win the championship, though. I've been saying all along that this team is young and has a lot of potential, and I want them to compete and grow.

That still doesn't mean that I shouldn't be critical of bad play. This team's strength has been defense, and that's what's been winning games against stronger opponents. Outscoring weak teams is padding our stats, and I think it's a folly to consider our offense one of the better ones in the league. That's an area where we need the most improvement in.

Even with healthy roster, our team has struggled in close games. I attribute some of that on the play calling. I don't want to turn this about Casey. But his play calling hasn't been great in close games for years now. That's something he should look to improve upon.

No doubt.

I just have no expectations for the team and it's been a good surprise to watch them play well most of the time this year. I don't think this team is anywhere near finished or contending, and even if they were, I don't get why people would get mad at a basketball team. This is what a lot of people signed up for, a middling team. When MU decided not to rebuild yet or rebuild fully, whatever, this is the result -- win a few, lose a few. Sloppy play, great play, inconsistency, over-reliance on a few players, hiding others. Bad decisions, erratic performance even in the team's strong area (defence), susceptible to crashes because of injury, etc. If Lowry went down we'd crash and burn because there wouldn't be anyone to lead 4thQ desperation comebacks -- for example. To me, those are all signs of a flawed team that is young and lacking in critical areas. But, shocking? Nope, not at all.

The Raptors will be without their sixth man for at least another week, they learned on Tuesday.

Patterson had become one of the team's most valuable and consistent contributors, anchoring a second unit that has been much improved since his arrival in December. In his absence, Dwane Casey has used the trio of Steve Novak, Chuck Hayes and Tyler Hansbrough as stopgaps off the bench. Unlike Patterson, a well-rounded, two-way player, his three replacements are best suited in situational roles. Each forward has stepped up to some degree, but Patterson's shoes have not been easy to fill.

I don't disagree at all about the second part. There are weaknesses in this roster, many of them, that MU hopefully sees anyway, but some of the problems brought up during the game with Atlanta didn't have as much to do with the roster as with decision making of key actors.

Fan expectations aren't static. Give a fan wins and they want more, give them more and they want nothing but. Give them losses then and watch the blame and pseudo-coaching expertise fly.

Just the expectation to stay at their hottest is not realistic, especially with significant injuries. Players and teams tend to fall back to their mean. Isn't that why statisticians track averages?

good point about seeing the fight in them even in a loss.. this team is gritty and have been pretty resilient.

as for the bolded, I think the last two games have been tough to swallow. We need Pat Pat back he really became a very important part of the rotation ..

Since when is gritty taking half of the game off and playing no defense at all, this team has been brutal to watch the last few games, Novak and Hayes should never see the floor.
Every time I see Hayes on the floor it makes me think of Aaron Gray except shorter, somehow slower and just as terrible and Novak may have a sweet shot but he literally does everything else at the level of Chris Smith ( JR's brother.)
