The NBA has awarded Blake Griffin with the Western Conference Player of the week, and I realize this is just a piddly award that doesn't mean much in the long rung, but WTF?!?!!?

Anthony Davis had a 40/20 and played like a beast the other nights. Here's a break down:

AD:
29 points (9/14), 10 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 TO, 3 PFs
36 points (15/27), 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 TO 5 PFs
40 points (14/22), 21 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 TO, 2 PFS

Total

105 points (38/63), 40 rebounds, 9 blocks, 6 assists, 3 steals, 4 TO, 10 PFs

AVE:
35 points (12.6/21), 13.3 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1.3 TO, 3.3 PFs

BG:

30 points (13/28), 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 3 TOs, 2 PFs
20 points (7/20), 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 2 TOs, 2 PFs
21 points (9/18), 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 block, 1 TOs, 4 PFs

Totals

61 points (29/76) 31 rebounds, 16 assists, 6 steals, 0 blocks, 6 TOs, 8 PFs

AVE

30.3 (10/25.3), 10.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 2 steals, 0 blocks, 2 TOs, 2.6 PFs

Davis got more points, on a much higher FGS, and significantly more rebounds and WAY more blocks. Was almost even in steals, and PFs, (Griffin admittedly edge him out in those categories) and was really only bettered in assists. Davis's TOs was lower, but Griffen had a better assist-to-turnover ratio.

It seems pretty clear to mean, post 5 more points and 4 more boards and 3 more blocks with a MUCH higher FG% should secure the "Player of the Week".

What are your thoughts.

Maybe because he is on a terrible team and blake is doing it on a contending teams idk.

He won't be acknowledged because of his team. I am glad I am a braves fan, otherwise I would have to suffer year round with the pelicans and raiders losing lol

Serious question.....How did you become a fan of a team from Atlanta, New Orleans, and Oakland?

Blake's more popular? That'd be my guess. Wouldn't put too much into these player of the week winners, much like the power rankings.

This. The Clippers are winning and the Pelicans are not. Like it or not its treated more like a team award like mvp is.

It happens. I became a Miami fan because of Zo in the 90s and became a Lions fan in 89 when they drafted Barry. I'm from southern CA and those areas are nowhere near me. Lol

They gave Melo Player of the Month and his team had a huge losing streak and were sub-500 and not contending.

For Player of the week/month, they don't typically weigh in the team's performance.

Just happened with player of the month Blake vs love, it has to do with the team success I'm guessing. Although there seems to be a bigger gap in this player of the week than the month one.

Not so much for player of the month. But for player if the week they do look at the records.

these are popularity awards, the league has been trying to build Blake into an icon since he joined the league. They handed him the dunk contest award for jumping over a sedan, gave him player of the month despite Love's ridiculous numbers. He's in LA and the Lakers suck, the league needs someone to tap into that market. Blake will continue to get massive love from the league. Davis is something else though.

Seriously, and I think the league has put the refs on notice- Blake griffin is NEVER to be tossed from a game after the Xmas incident. He got a raw deal on it- but hes constantly right in the middle of these situations- once in a while hes going to get the short end of the stick. Lord knows hes gotten the good end of calls like 95% of the time.

LOL when blake griffin got ejected on xmas- There was so much talk about it- You would have thought something like the malice in the palace broke out again. I know the xmas line up was kind of boring, and the clippers warriors game was actually a really good game- the league hated that griffin was ejected. Ever since then, I see him in little fights atleast once a week- and it looks like the refs go out of their way not to penalize him in any way. I dont know if its a marketing thing or what- but its annoying.

It's not uncommon, I'm from SoCal and I started liking the packers when I was too young to even know pro sports teams came from different cities. I always thought Green Bay was just part of their name.

look, Im not the biggest blake griffin fan but this whole post is wrong. 1st off, the points you added up for Blake does not equal the ppg you came up with. 2nd, he shot 7-17 in that one game, not 7-20. 3rd, Blake played 4 games last week, not 3. In the game you missed, he put up 37pts on 14-16 shooting in a way over a good Suns team. Most of all, you still have to have a decent team record that week to win the award. The Clipps went 4-0 while NO went 1-2. Its really not that hard to figure out and Blake deserved it.

Some weeks are just hard to judge, have they ever had co players of the week in the same conference?

I think there should be a thread about how someone else deserves every accolade that Blake gets!

I think a good one would be _______ player deserves to be the spokesman for Kia!

Giving Blake player of the week after a game of 20 & 5 on 7/20 shooting is a pretty big joke.

If he deserved the award, I don't think people would be getting salty.

But like a bunch of others have said, its a silly award that has means nothing in the big picture.
